Tours: Billy Bragg

Legendary folk/punk Billy Bragg has announced some US dates this fall.

Though Billy has not released a new album since 2002’s England, Half English, he remains actively involved in a number of causes. The latest project is his charity, Jail Guitar Doors, which aims to provide musical instruments for rehabilitation work in British prisons. Clash guitarist and “Jail Guitar Doors” songwriter Mick Jones joined Bragg in dropping off the first five acoustic guitars to Wormwood Scrubs prison in West London earlier this month.

Heavens: “Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division)”

Heavens, which features Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio and Joe Steinbrick of Thieves Like Us, recently recorded a cover of the Joy Division classic, “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”

Joe adds:

We were asked to do this for the Soundtrack to the upcoming film “The Signal” directed by our friend Jacob Gentry. Normally covering them would be blasphemous (and rather unnecessary) but here goes. Not really so much a Heavens cover version but myself playing instruments at Ben’s studio with Matt singing. Yeah, that makes me more comfortable with it.

You can check it out here.

The band’s Epitaph debut, Patent Pending, was released today as a limited 2xLP with a gatefold cover.
