Narrows (ex-Botch, Unbroken/Some Girls, TAAS) complete album

Narrows, which includes Dave Verellen (Botch, Roy), Rob Moran (Unbroken, Some Girls), Ryan Fredereksen (These Arms Are Snakes), Jodie Cox (Tropics, Bullet Union), and Sam Stothers (Makeout Boys, Quarantine), have completed work on their debut full length:

The album is now officially completed. It was mastered this past Friday by Matt Bayles and we are very excited for everyone to hear it. We will be posting a track from the album in a few weeks, and hope you all enjoy it. We are finalizing the album name and will begin on artwork soon. We had wanted to get this out before the end of the year, but this whole distance thing can get a bit complicated at times. It would have been nice to tour one something besides a 7″, but what can you do, it’s punk rock right? We think the record will now be released around March-ish.

The band will be hitting the road with These Arms Are Snakes and Trap Them this December.

Ramones family members spar over politics

Mickey Leigh, president of Ramones productions and brother to the late Joey Ramone and Linda Ramone, wife of the late Johnny Ramone have been in a public dispute over the imminent election. Linda has been involved with Meghan McCain, daughter of Senator McCain. Meghan is a self-professed punk rocker and has been arguing that the only way to be punk rock is to be conservative. She endorses the Ramones and speaks on Fox News right here.

On the other hand, Mickey has responded to Linda’s use of the surname “Ramone” during this, saying:

I just want it to be clear that Linda Cummings does not represent the political views of the Ramones. Surely, as for Joey Ramone, the only Ramones song he would sing at a Republican campaign event would be ‘Glad To See You Go!’

I should add that when Johnny stated ‘God Bless George Bush’ at the 2002 Rock&Roll Hall of Fame awards, I realize now that he was on to something. Because if it were not for George Bush and his handling of our country the past 8 years, I doubt so many Americans, including so many highly regarded Republicans, would now be getting behind Barack Obama. So, yes, thank God for George Bush for paving the way to Obama.

A conversation with the curator of the punk rock auction at Christie’s

Last week, it was announced that Christie’s, the leading art business and a fine arts auction house founded in 1766, will be hosting a punk-themed auction. Set for November 24th, the auction will feature memorabilia from Ramones, The Clash, Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols, Blondie, the Cure and Patti Smith among others.

Our friends at Yuppie Punk interviewed Simeon, who explained the origins of some of the items as well as how they were appraised by the auction house as well as presenting a list of some notable items:

In this particular auction, I recruited the help of a gentleman by the name of Johan Kugelberg, who’s well-known in punk circles. In fact, for record collectors out there, he’s the guy who came up with the “Killed by Death” series which brought super-rare punk records to the masses.

As for some choice items, Simeon mentions:

There’s a poster for the Ramones at the Roundhouse, July 4th, 1976. And that’s a really famous concert because it’s known that the Sex Pistols, the Clash and the Damned were among the audience and were influenced by the concert. It was a seminal event, certainly in British punk history.

As for why the auction house drew the line by including only 70s and 80s-era material and nothing from the 90s:

Like wine, it has to mature, and that material hasn’t matured yet. We know there’s a market right now for a lot of the punk stuff from the ’70s and early ’80s,

Steam Cloud Rolling in This Week

Leading Online Platform for PC Games Extends Portability

November 3, 2008 – Valve, creators of best-selling entertainment products and advanced technologies, today announced the roll out of Steam Cloud, a set of services for Steam that stores application data online and allows user experiences to be consistent from any PC. Steam Cloud is a free extension to Steam, a leading a platform for PC games with over 15 million accounts worldwide.

Steam Cloud support will ship with Valve’s Left 4 Dead demo later this week and the full game on November 18. In this first release, the information stored and accessible through the Steam Cloud includes keyboard, mouse, and gamepad configurations, as well as multiplayer settings such as spraypaint images.

The Steam Cloud will “just work,” meaning any user changes to their game options will propagate to the Cloud by default. Upon logging into Steam from another PC, these settings will be brought down from the Cloud and automatically leveraged by the game. Any configuration changes on this second machine are then synced to the Cloud for future sessions.

Steam Cloud will be available to all publishers and developers using Steam, free of charge, and Valve will add Cloud support to its back catalog of Steam games. Cloud services are compatible with games purchased via Steam, at retail, and other digital outlets.

“For some time now, Steam has allowed gamers to log on from any computer in the world and access their applications. This also makes it easy to upgrade a PC without worrying about losing your games,” said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. “Steam Cloud is a natural extension of the portability Steam affords gamers and developers, and we intend to expand its feature set as it is used in Left 4 Dead and other games coming to Steam.”
