GR2 Playlist Update!

I updated the station today with 27 new songs and improved copies of three songs already up and playing.  If you look under "Featured Content" to the right side of the front page, you can see the play list in it's entirety.  Or you can click here .  I'll make an effort to keep it up-to-date.

Gamers Radio Presents Battle of the Bands!

Battle of the Bands Website

If you are a band looking for exposure or a fan of a band who wants to get the word out, then submit links to their music on our new Digg inspired Battle of the Bands Website.

In turn, we will take the top bands as voted by you and look at adding them to our rotation on GR1 Heavy Metal and GR2 Punk Rock. But, just because we may not play your style of music, we have added different music genres for everyone's taste.

Because we love indie music, we are going to let all of the radio stations we network with about this site and the great resource of quality independent music available for airplay on their station. Between forums and mailing lists, we have access to thousands of stations.

Don't just stop there. This is a website for bands and fans alike. Tell your friends about this website. Tell all the bands you know about this website. We want to find the best music out there and with your help, we can make it happen.

What digg.com is to technology, we want the Battle of the Bands to be to Independent Artists and Music Fans!

Rock On!

2007 Small Broadcasters License

Help us take Gamers Radio, GR1 – Heavy Metal and GR2 – Punk Rock, to the next level and get a chance to win one of three Free Ipods!

In January 2007, we will be eligible to file for a Small Broadcasters License, however the license is going to cost us $2000. That is a lot of money for something we do for fun. Here are some things we can do with this License.

500 Free Listener Slots instead of the current 100. Think of the times you have tried to listen, but the station was full.

10GB of song storage instead of the current 300MB. We would love to add more tons more great songs to the station, but we have been limited on space. Imagine what cool things we can do with 10GB of music storage!

We will be eligible to be listed in the ITunes Radio Directory. Not only is this cool, but if you listen via ITunes, there is no login to Live365!

We will be eligible to be listed on the Microsoft Media Player Radio Station website. Again, this would be cool!

You will be able to listen to Gamers Radio on Tivo!

As you can see, there are a lot of great things available to us with the Small Broadcasters License. With your help, we can achieve this goal.

As an added bonus, everyone who donates will be eligible to win a Free Ipod!

If you want to help us take Gamers Radio to the next level, please donate via PayPal. Please keep in mind that PayPal charges us a fee.

Contest Details:

Under $1,000 = New 1GB Ipod Shuffle
$1,000-$1,999 = New 2GB Ipod Nano
$2,000 = 30GB Video Ipod

* All dollar amounts are total donations after fee's.

Minimum $2.00 donation to be eligible for the contest.
Contest ends January 31st, 2007.

This contest is open to anyone who can legally participate based on your local laws. If you are not a US resident, you can still win, but you will be responsible for shipping and all applicable taxes.

Major Update for GR2

Wow!  After laughing hysterically at The Office last night, I spent the remainder of the evening processing a major update to Gamers Radio 2:  The Punk Phase .  I went into the update with the goal of diversifying the number of bands and I think everyone is going to be very happy with what I've added for new music.  First, I sent packing a bunch of the lower rated songs, others that sounded poor, and ones that I thought sucked whether anyone else liked them or not.  All in all about 50 songs came off the air and were replaced by around 75 for nearly 8 hours of music!

I took this opportunity to fix the songs that sounded like garbage, and I hope I did that, particularly with some of the Dag Nasty songs.  Let me know if you hear anything that sounds too low, too high, or of generally poor quality.

For the "new" music, I added some of the 80's punk and hardcore like Agent Orange, Black Flag, Descendents, Social Distortion and Bad Religion.  I also stepped back to the very roots of punk rock and added some tunes by a group called Wire and another little known band called The ClashMinor Threat and Fugazi have finally shown up, as have Pennywise and Operation Ivy.  There is a lot of more recent stuff as well and you'll hear songs by the Selby Tigers, Retrace, Pulley, Roughnecks, Rise Against and Avail among others.  You will have to listen to find out the rest.

I also want to call extra attention to a band called the Belligerents that includes our very own Hymen Slaughter (That's not his real name) on drums.  You can find three of their songs in the rotation and I don't think you will be disappointed.

Stop by the Gamers Radio Forums  or drop us a line at [email protected] and let us know what you think.

Punk Rock Changed our Lives

Press Release

Gainesville, Virginia September 12, 2006

This may not be the most eloquent of press releases, but since when has punk music been about eloquence or press releases for that matter? Even if a press release isn't very Punk, GamersRadio.com is proud to announce the debut of our second radio station on Live365 to compliment our flagship station in the Metal genre.

Broadcasting at 64K MP3Pro Stereo, Gamers Radio GR2: The Punk Phase plays a wide variety of music from punks' 1970's origins to the present. In History Lesson Part II, D. Boon of the Minutemen said "Punk Rock changed our lives" and while listening to GR2 may in fact be life changing, the intent is to expose the listener to the music that we love and that might broadly be labeled "Punk". Our core sound is built around No Use For A Name, Swingin' Utters, Rancid, Social Distortion, and NOFX. From there pretty much anything goes and the listener should expect to hear music ranging from something that might pass for pop, to a song that you might just as likely hear on our Metal Station. The intent is to play music that gets your blood and emotions moving because whether the song is old or new, political or about drinking and f*cking, we want it to mean something.

Calling All Music Fans!

We are starting a new contest at Gamers Radio. If you like music, then drop by and give us a hand at testing it out. Here are the details.

We are going to start a new monthly contest. For the months of July and August, it is a dry run only. September will be official with a $10 Itunes Gift Card or a 3 Month VIP subscription to Live365 as the prize. Winner will get to choose.

The Rules:

1. I will post a single word from the lyrics of a song at random intervals.
2. You may make one guess with the Artist and Song Title after each word is posted.
3. We will keep track of the winners and the last week of the month will be a “Name That Tune” type contest.
4. Songs can be from any Rock or Pop Genre from any time period.

Final Round
1. When the final round starts, only previous winners for the month will be allowed to participate.
2. Each winner will tell me how many words they can name the tune in.
3. Once all winners have posted, the lowest number gets first guess.
4. If they miss it, the next highest number will get a guess.
5. There is a catch though. Only one word will be added after each miss.
6. If all contestants miss, we will start over. However, we will pick a different part of the song for the next round.

Drop by and check out our new forums!
