Jay Reatard talks new record, promises the rock’n’roll

Memphis, TN’s Jay Reatard has revealed some details about his upcoming debut full length for Matador. Says Jay:

I always felt I was writing songs with very basic pop structures but maybe the vocals were too intense. I kind of knew in the back of my head that maybe this was going to open up some sort of a crossover audience… I don’t want to cross the line into singer/songwriter territory because I like playing rock and roll… I’m not some fucking troubadour with a guitar. I’ve seen too many people go down that road and it ends up being embarrassing.

Reatard recently finished up a series of seven inches for Matador, and previously released Blood Visions in 2006 via In the Red. You can read the full interview/feature at RiotFest.
