No vinyl for Strung Out, No Use for a Name releases

Looks like Strung Out and No Use for a Name fans will not be seeing vinyl releases for both band’s upcoming albums. The label explained:

Alright…it seems that some of you are filling your diapers over the fact that we aren’t putting out vinyl for the new Mad Caddies, Strung Out and No Use for a Name. Here are my two favorite bits of constructive suggestions that came into ye ol’ digital complaint box, “the cunts arent gonna press this on vinyl either” and “guess I will just download it loosing money from me….”. Well…we don’t want your money to get any “looser” with gas prices rising and all so we thought we’d let you know that the reason we aren’t putting out these records on vinyl is because they are too LONG.

The more music you stuff onto a single LP, the worse it sounds so we decided we didn’t want to compromise the recording quality. Fear not because we actually have a couple of really cool secret vinyl projects coming up.

We apologize if you are bummed and as a peace offering we give to you the first Strung Out mp3 for the song Calling. I again apologize but this mp3 will not be on vinyl.

According to vinyl specialty store Vinyl Collective, the label is also not planning to license the album in any form.

System of a Down bassist to direct Bad Brains video

System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian has been tapped to direct the first video from the upcoming record from Bad Brains. The record is titled Build a Nation and is due out June 26, 2007. Shavo adds:

I’ve been a fan of the Brains ever since I can remember. They are iconic pioneers of punk, not just the music but the attitude. The energy that comes off their stage is like no other. HR’s performances have effected not only my band, but almost every heavy band in our era. Another major inspiration is their message of trying to promote righteousness and living the righteous way. I am going to rock this video for the Brains and try to capture their intense energy. It’s a big responsibility… I’m honored.

The band has also begun announcing dates for their upcoming world tour. The first block of confirmed shows is now available.

UPDATED: Kill Your Idols’ final show shut down

What was to be Kill Your Idols‘ final show this past Sunday night in Smithtown, NY, was shut down prior to the band’s set.

As Crime in Stereo prepared to play the second-to-last set of the night, several Suffolk County police cars began showing up to the Smithtown Lodge. The band stood by for approximately 10 minutes waiting for confirmation that they could begin their set, and then began to play “I, Stateside.” The song was then cut short at about the 1:11 mark, with the audible line of “these troubled states” ringing out from an a cappella crowd singing along.

The police as well as a Suffolk County fire marshall informed those in charge of the show that the venue was over its legal capacity, which was actually 49 due to the lodge’s lack of sprinklers and fire alarms according to the marshall.

Bands that did make it through their set included Splitting Headache and Capital, the latter of which sparked the crowd with back-to-back Burn and Dag Nasty covers, a wealth of material off 2006’s Signal Corps and a song off the forthcoming Revelation debut, Homefront, to boot.

According to a MySpace bulletin from On the Might of Princes, Kill Your Idols played later that night in the parking lot of a rehearsal space.

UPDATE: KYI bassist Paul Delaney wrote us with an update on what happened that night.

Kill Your Idols’ final show shut down

As Crime in Stereo prepared to play the second-to-last set of the night, several Suffolk County police cars began showing up to the Smithtown Lodge, a Masonic temple that is often used for local hardcore/punk/indie rock shows. The band stood by for approximately 10 minutes waiting for confirmation that they could begin their set, and then began to play “I, Stateside.” The song was then cut short at about the 1:11 mark, with the audible line of “these troubled states” ringing out from an a cappella crowd singing along.

NOFX talks 2007 tour plans, not appearing at Reading & Leeds

NOFX recently posted an update on their website in which they mention their plans on touring for the rest of 2007 including trips to Israel, South Africa, and more. The trips will be video taped for their promised documentary of their 2007 tour. The band also had this to say:

We have had a lot of questions from the UK so here are the answers. No we are not playing Reading and Leeds, we thought we were, but they seem to have given our spot to some other bands. (no-one in particular they just filled up the bill and ran out of space for us.) We are planning two trips across the Atlantic. August and September (Northern Europe Russia and Israel but no UK ) Then in November we will do a few UK shows (we hear the weather is much better then.) as well as Southern Europe and Southern Africa. Keep your eyes open for dates in a few weeks.

Interviews: Inquisition

We recently caught up with Thomas Barnett and Rob Huddleston of seminal melodic-hardcore group Inquisition. The video interview was quite lengthy, discussing a plethora of subjects, so we’ve broken it down into separate segments. In part one, the band discusses the sold-out reunion shows this upcoming weekend, playing together again for the first time in over a decade, and what those attending can expect from the performances.
