Dillinger Escape Plan announces album title, departures

Dillinger Escape Plan have made some announcements about their upcoming full length as well as the departure of founding drummer Chris Pennie. As rumoured, Pennie left the band to join Coheed and Cambria. The band confirmed the departure indirectly, by omitting Pennie’s name from the lineup for the record.

The new lineup also confirms the role of drummer Gil Sharone. According to Gil’s biography, he has previously performed live with acts like Fishbone, Dave Wakeling of The English Beat, HR of Bad Brains and others.

The band is continuing work on their next full length which has been titled Ire Works. They will again be working with producer Steve Evetts and a fall release is expected. Both bits of news come in a moment of rare seriousness for the band who explained:

Know that what we are in the process of recording will be everything we have ever been capable of, and now more. This last year, and how we have gotten through it and to the place we are now, will define all of our lives for a long time.

We have overcome everything from multiple member changes in the early years, members suffering physical impairment or injury that has made it impossible to continue playing, and financial, physical, personal, and internal problems that many bands would never make it through. We take forever to put out records, and put everything we have into them. T

New Cuff the Duke record this summer

Oshawa, Ontario’s Cuff the Duke were recently in the studio recording the follow up to their sophomore self titled full length. The band is planning for either a late August or early September release, but those details are still under wraps. The band’s Three Gut released debut album Life Stories For Minimum Wage was reissued earlier this year via Outside Music. The label also released frontman Wayne Petti’s solo debut City Lights Align this past March.

In recent years members of the band have joined members of the Weakerthans and FemBots in the instrumental indie rock collective Hylozoists. That act recently put out the record La Fin du Monde.

Say Anything post recording update

Say Anything Say Anything has posted a progress report on their forthcoming album In Defense of the Genre. Vocalist Max Bemis reported that they’re currently 65-70 percent done tracking the record and have completed drums, bass and guitar work on 95 percent of the songs. Bemis also noted that there are currently a lot of songs on the record, friends from various projects and bands will be involved in singing and playing on the record, and that the album is another concept record but “this time (tentatively) the songs will appear in order of the story they tell, which is far more direct and personal than the last record’s story.

In Defense of the Genre will be the proper follow-up to 2004’s …Is A Real Boy.

Groupie feature with Colors in the Air

Some of our friends at Xanga got us involved in a new feature they’ve got called Groupie. The idea is to follow a band on a tour and kind of get a feel for what it’s actually like for a new band to hit the road.

With so many of you in bands, or thinking about it, we thought it’d be a cool feature and so we decided to sponsor the whole thing. You can check out the first set of videos, blogs and music right here, and definitely let us know what you think of the idea.
