Less Than Jake highlights

You’re the lucky reader of the 29th edition of the Punknews.org Vinyl File. This column aims to keep you informed with upcoming releases as well as spotlighting interesting releases, your favorite bands’ own collections and labels with a history of vinyl releases worth talking about. As always, Vinyl File is brought to you by Ben Conoley.

Since their inception in 1992, Less Than Jake has released some of the most interesting and fun records in punk rock. After all, can you name any bands that have released records shaped like birthday cake and moldy cheese or have released records in pizza boxes (I know, I know, Horse!) and pie tins? This is all in addition to flexi discs, a split with Megadeth and much, much more. It would take much too long to cover every vinyl release the band has put out. Instead, Vinyl File is thrilled to present the Less Than Jake highlight reel.

In related Less Than Jake news, Vinnie Fiorello of Gainesville, Florida’s Less Than Jake was interviewed this past week for Central Connecticut State Univesitiy’sThe Recorder . He mentioned that the band is planning on hitting the studio in March for a release in June on the band’s own record label. He also discusses his business decisions and says that the new album will see the band “going to go back true to form.” Expect references to both Pez and Johnny Quest.

You can read the text of the interview here.

Tours: Rise Against (European festivals, Warped Tour announcenment)

Chicago’s Rise Against has a number of European festival dates scheduled for the summer. This includes the Download Festival in England (with the Offspring and Motorhead among others) followed by the Greenfield Festival in Switzerland, and both the Hurricane and Southside Festivals in Germany.

The band may just be supporting their new record by the time these shows roll in. The follow up to 2006’s The Sufferer & the Witness is expected sometime this year.

The band has also announced their addition to 2008’s Warped Tour, having this to say:

After catching wind that this year’s Warped has Pennywise, The Bronx, Bouncing Souls, Against Me!, The Vandals, GBH, St. Alvia Cartel, Street Dogs and a bunch more of our favorite dudes all planning late night BBQ’s without us, we got pretty damn jealous. So we took a break from writing our new record and called up Kevin to see if he had any room left for us and our scooters, as long as we promised to finish our homework first. Even though we allegedly trashed a pool in Florida years ago on Warped, he agreed to have us back. We’re not doing the whole thing because we sunburn easily, you know how it is. So, if you’re on or near the West Coast, we’ll see you in August. Stay hydrated, always swim with a buddy, and books; check ’em out…love Team Rise

All the dates for this year’s Warped Tour can be found here.
