Kidneys (Bad Religion’s Brooks Wackerman) set to release debut

Bad Religion’s Brooks Wackerman took some time to start a new band, Kidneys, in which he moves to the other side of the stage picking up the guitar and taking on vocal duties. Rounding out the trio are Jon Spiker, whom Wackerman met while playing with Tenacious D and his brother John on bass.

The band recently self-released a self-titled CD, a taste of which can be found on the group’s MySpace page.

Tours: The Sword (UK & US)

Austin, Texas’ The Sword will be crusading their way through England atop flying black dragons before bringing their fierce warrior spirit back to the states to combat stray orcs in the Southwest deserts and the lush forests of the Northwest before heading through the desolate wastelands of the middle states.

The band has finished work on their new album, Gods of the Earth, due out April 1st on Kemado Records.

Islands signs to Anti-

Montreal’s Islands have signed with Anti to release Arm’s Way, their follow-up to 2006’s acclaimed Return to the Sea. The album is scheduled for a May 20th release. One song slated to appear on the album, “The Arm,” can be heard on the band’s MySpace page.

The band is about to embark on a tour of the UK and Europe before returning to the United States to play Coachella.

Scared Of Chaka reunion

Scared Of Chaka Albuquerque legends Scared Of Chaka will reunite on stage in late March in Virginia City, NV to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Sticker Guy! Custom Vinyl Stickers, a venture that grew into 702 Records and Slovenly Recordings. Sticker Guy Pete confirmed that the show will see the David Yanul Hernandez, Dameon Waggoner and Ron Skrasek lineup of Scared Of Chaka together for the first time in a decade, joined by a reunion of the Gain along with sets from the Spits, the Bananas and the Rippers. A venue has not yet been announced.

Hernandez has of course found success post-Chaka as a member of indie darlings the Shins.

Supersuckers webcast this Thursday

A recent sold out show from Seattle’s Supersuckers will be streamed live this coming Valentine’s Day (that’s Thursday, by the way). The concert took place on at the Jigsaw Saloon in Parma, Ohio on January 26, 2008. Performances from Eddie Spaghetti and Jordan Shapiro along with Cleveland’s Whiskey Daredevils will also be streamed. The performances will be available via YeboTV.

Supersuckers most recently released the EP Paid.

Somerset (2002-2008)

SomersetMinneapolis, MN’s Somerset has announced their final show. The four piece, which has been on somewhat of a hiatus for a year or so now, will reconvene at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis on March 15th for the gig. The band will be joined by The City On Film (Bob Nanna of Braid and Hey Mercedes) and Justin Pierre, frontman for Motion City Soundtrack.

Somerset last released Pandora in 2005 on Punknews Records. It was preceded by a demo EP and the self-released This Thought Process. Guitarist JT Viele’s current project is The Teddy Holidays.

No No Zero, Tiefigher, Pretty & Nice

Southern Californian melodic hardcore/punk band Tiefighter recently completed filming a video for the song “Everything” from their upcoming album I Could Tell The World…. The video was directed by AG (First To Leave, Countdown) and will debut on Tuesday March 18th to coincide with the release of the album on Forward Looking Records. A European tour in April and a full US tour in June are planned to support.

Toronto band No No Zero, featuring former members of The Exploders, will release their debut record Rough Stuff on March 4, 2008 in Canada. Initially self released as vinyl only, the Signed By Force label will now re-release the album as CD, vinyl and a digital download. A US release date is pending.

Label Hardly Art has announced the signing of Pretty & Nice. The Boston “glitch rock” four-piece will release an as-yet-untitled album from the group later this year. Pretty & Nice will be headed out on tour with Exit Clov next month, with all tour dates available on the label’s site.

Free Team Fortress 2 Update Coming Thursday

On Thursday, February 14 at 11 am PST, all PC versions of Team Fortress 2, the class-based multiplayer action game named PC Game of the Year by Gamespy.com, will receive its largest update since the product was first made available on October 10, 2007, as part of Valve’s best-selling Orange Box compilation.

The free update includes global optimizations for networking, graphics, and player statistics, plus improvements to Source TV for tournament viewing.

In addition, three of the currently available maps (Dustbowl, Granary, CTF_Well) have been iterated for enhanced performance and gameplay.

The release is headlined by the introduction of “Badlands,” a new map that pushes control-point gameplay onto vertical landscapes.
