Rise Against announces album release, tour with Alkaline Trio, Thrice, Gaslight Anthem

Rise Against Rise Against have announced release plans for their forthcoming album. The record is titled Appeal To Reason and is due out October 07, 2008. It is the follow-up to The Sufferer & the Witness which was released in 2006.

The band teamed up with Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, Descendents) and Jason Livermore to record at the Blasting Room in Ft. Collins, CO– the same production team and studio used for The Sufferer & the Witness and Revolutions Per Minute.

Along with the album news, the band announced plans for a headlining tour this Fall. The Live Nation-produced tour will include openers Alkaline Trio, Thrice and Gaslight Anthem. Official tour dates to be announced soon.

This Is Hell: “Cement Shoes,” “Show You No Mercy (Cro-Mags)”

This Is Hell have debuted two new songs. The first, “Cement Shoes,” comes from an upcoming split with Nightmare of You due out on Run For Cover Records. The second is the exclusive bonus track from the vinyl version of Misfortunes and features the Cro-Mags classic, “Show You No Mercy.”

Jesse Michaels (Operation Ivy/Common Rider) and Jeff Ott (Crimpshrine/Fifteen) plan acoustic shows

Jesse Michaels of Operation Ivy and Common Rider will be joining Jeff Ott of Fifteen and Crimpshrine for two shows in August.

The first will be at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood, CA on 8/15, and the second will be at the Riverside Jazz & Art Exchange in Riverside, CA on 8/16.

Saddle Creek signs Sebastien Grainger (ex-Death From Above 1979)

Saddle Creek has announced the signing of Sebastien Grainger, the former singer/drummer of acclaimed Canadian duo, Death From Above 1979.

To coincide with the signing, the label has released a new iTunes-exclusive digital EP, American Names which can be found here for sampling or purchase. You can also stream the title track from the EP here.

The label is promising that a full length will follow this October.

Galaxy Down, She Rides, Disaster March

Fenton, MI’s Galaxy Down ahve posted some music from their upcoming EP, Chillin’ Transparent, which is due out in August via Start/Finish Records. You can check out the songs on their myspace page.

This week’s most popular stories

This week Dominic Davi, formerly of Love Equals Death, spoke out about last year’s rape accusation. Davi wrote us an open letter telling his side of the story and discussing the turns his life has taken since. The Canadian branch of fast food chain KFC responded to an anti-cruelty campaign driven by artists like Rise Against, Thursday, and Alkaline Trio. We continued to look at the problem that gas prices are posing for touring bands. We can surely expect more articles of this type as the year goes on. Ben Weasel wrote off a reunion of Screeching Weasel and generally took the punk scene to task. None More Black‘s reunion shows on the other hand are not only happening, but they’ve become a full-blown return to action.

The Bouncing Souls have announced their digital release plans, with intentions to release a downloadable song on the first of every month in 2009. Propagandhi will record in October. Rise Against has finished thier new album. Anchorless’ Johnny Cash Tribute has a release date and finalized track list featuring acts like the Loved Ones, the Flatliners and the Sainte Catharines. Scared Of Chaka has announced more reunion shows with Dillinger Four, and Murder City Devils. The Gaslight Anthem and American Steel are touring with Polar Bear Club and O Pioneers!!!. We wished MxPx happy birthday while bands like the Foo Fighters and Flaming Lips played tribute to the Who.
