BF Pirates has released it's server today. I can't wait to start playing. This in the past has been one of my favorite mods!!!

    Arrrrrrrrr!

I must confess to more than a little hesitation, since the idea of a Pirates-themed mod just seems so unlikely to be executed well.

    Still, I'll check it out.

    Aaarrrrrr!

BF Pirates for Battlefield 1942 was a blast to play, especially in CTF mode. I'm not sure if they'll have CTF in this version or not, but I'm still excited. They have some of the most creative weapons, characters, and maps of any mod team.

And honestly, they have in the past presented a rather complete mod. And it has always been ALOT of fun, if not just because you feel compelled to talk like a pirate in TS. But the weapons like the tankard for the drunkard class, or the duck foot pistol are simply fun.

Not to mention that the leader of the mod is also the same person EA hired to be the mod liaison when BF2 launched. He knows this stuff better than anyone.

    The ships were a blast!

Yeah Sarge and I played for a while last night. This particular server only played one map for the hour I was on, but it was a good map. As usual the weapons are fun as hell. Can't wait until I can get some more game time with this one.

Like get our own server blast or play it once in a while blast?

  11. #12
I wouldn't go through the effort of getting our own server, but I'll play it quite a bit.

Drix and I played this a bit last night.

It doesn't create a shortcut, so you will need to make one yourself. Copy one of the bf2 shortcuts, right click properties and add this path with your system info.

    "C:\Path\To\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/bfp2

I kept dropping to desktop and the servers crashed several times. However, it's the smallest mod I've seen and loads very fast. I'm sure they will work this out.

The tree's and cover are awesome. It felt like a Vietnam mod. The objects are really cool. The weapons are hard as ever and the bunny hopping was a little rough, but what else can you do while you are reloading for 10 seconds. :-)

I only played a few maps, but I didn't see any big ship battles. I hope there are some.

I think it's fun.... Different, but fun....

I saw one of the founders of "Talk like a Pirate Day" compete on "Jeopardy!" recently. He lost.

I found this thread while looking for another, so I thought I'd share.

Nahh, I tried this one on it's last release, and it's beyond primitive. I'll stick with AIX - it's better than the original BF2.

As much as I hate BF2, and trying to test my new moto/cpu last night BF2's login server was broken. That was a pisser, but I saw someone on xfire that confirmed it was the server, not me.

AIX is good for different reasons. Its a hell of a way to get a server started. Kinda like the ol' days of INV. 2, it allows either co-op or human against human. 3, it can gather enough people around to at least swap it into vanilla mode. 4, its what was missing from BF2 as compared to BF1942.

Also after making those suggested changes it loads right up. I had no idea the login server was looking at/and trying to verify each and every favorite you had saved in your general.con file.

In otherwords fellows, edit your general.con file and near the bottom where there are the add favorite servers section, remove them all. This will cut the login time from 3 mins or more to 10 secs!

    It's always a fun change.
