I haven't heard how this affects AIX yet. I'm DL'ing it, but will hold off applying the patch until I get more info. I'll probably install it even if it does screw AIX. It's been so long since I've played some BF2, I'm looking forward to playing it again and having a group of ppl to game with, even if it's only until the novelty wears off.

Guys you can install 1.5 in parallel to 1.41. It's easy: I've been doing this since they released 1.5 BETA 1, so I could try out 1.5 but then come back and play 1.41 for AIX and DCONX.

Just make a copy of your "Battlefield 2" folder in Program Files and rename it to "Battlefield 2 1.41". Then install the 1.5 patch.

When you want to play version 1.41 again, just rename "Battlefield 2" to "Battlefield 2 1.5" and "Battlefield 2 1.41" back to "Battlefield 2". In short, keep a 1.5 and 1.41 folder, toggling the folder name to "Battlefield 2" for whichever version you want to play.

Great games tonight by the way! Except when I got credit for TKing an entire squad when I shot an enemy Jihad Jeep! 😊

Yeah, I enjoyed playing as well despite the fact that I felt like I was playing so badly. I need to play a map where I'm not being bombed every few second however 😒

The one map where the textures worked was good, I enjoyed it. I need to get the textures to work again. I wonder if its the DX10 or Win 7?!?

I had a good time, but I took out two helo's with a tank and I sniped me some 2 and 3 star generals. Ahhhhh, good fun.....

Got mine working. After 2 days and $100 on a new sound card, it was turning of AA that made the difference.

From what I read, AIX doesn't work with the patch.

I'm gonna take Larva's advice. Probably shouldn't bother, since few ppl will, and as a result, we won't see much AIX action until it gets patched, but I will, just for giggles.

DCONX announced that DCONX 0.22b is compatible with the 1.5 patch. So I've sent a request to Strummer asking him to upgrade the Bar & Grille to v1.5 in time for this weekend.

@ Bubbaspanky: what sound card did you get? 🤘

    X-Fi Titanium Pro Fatality

For $100.... Damn, I paid that for the Music X-Fi...... Nice buy....

It was cheaper at the local Bestbuy than anywhere online, that is why I jumped on it.

Bubba, since you got the pro version of the X-Fi, I believe it has 128 voices. To double the number of sounds you can hear simultaneously in BF2 go to your "My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\000#\" folders. Open the "Sound.con" for each profile in subfolders 0001, 0002 etc., and change the following value from 64 to 128:

    game.setChannels 128

You can do something similiar for BF1942 and BFV. It's incredible how BG42 1.6 sounds now that the mod devs updated all of the sounds to high quality. In 128 voices it's completely amazing with all of the ambient affects they put in.

You'll be very happy with your new sound card - it's a good investment.

I don't even think I knew that..... Does it change anything in BF2 vanilla?
  19. #20
It should change the BF2 audio in general, no matter whether you're playing vanilla, SF or a mod. It's just a console command to manually set the number of voices that your audio card can handle. I set it manually in the file and haven't tried it in console yet.

Also, if you have an X-Fi with 64MB or more of Audio-RAM you should be able to set the audio quality to "Ultra-High" in BF2. It's a drop-down option that should appear if your card can take advantage of it.

So far the public seems to be raving about how much better the sound works in BF2 with the latest drivers and the 1.5 patch. I think it sounds better myself - smooth and consistent, less sound hicups.

Ah, I C.... I only have the regular X Fi.... That might be the difference....
