Ok, So we cracked this baby open last night.
I have to say I can understand why they took so long, all of the textures and models are beautiful! The maps are for the most part well made and seem to be balanced. There is a nice mix of infantry, and vehicle maps. It has that ooo so good WWII feel, I have missed that alot. Being back to single shot weapons was a nice relief.
All of that being said I had a few issues that could easily be fixed. Most of them relate to a 'realism' but I think it's realism gone too far
Tags: I know everyone loves to say their mod doesn't have tags, typically with the cavalier attitude of 'they don't have big tags over their head in war'. Well this is a video game, you don't have all of your senses, you don't reconize your comrades face, tags or at least uniforms that are consistant and very contrasting is required there were more TKs last night than I have ever seen. I also can't say how many times I saw a guy, looked at my minimap, looked back at the guy determined he must be friendly then had him kill me because he was on the other team. I know the uniforms were green camo and grey for the most part, and maybe it's because I am somewhat colorblind but there were officer uni's that were different and I couldn't tell the difference. In any case I say give us the tags.
Tank Speed: Just too slow. I was able to run alongside our tanks quicker. Now maybe this is the speed reality, but it just made the game less fun.
Map size: in some instance the maps were just too huge. Lessen the size in the middle and some of these maps get to be very fun.
All said and done it was a good initial release. A few changes will take this from a few week diversion to a game that is played by a loyal group for a couple years. Like the Desert Combat of bf42. Good work devs and I encourage you to get your other theatres out asap, even if they are so polished. I reinstalled BF2 soley for this mod.
