It will be called Special Forces
    Followed by Euro Farce
    Then Armored Fury

Yeah, the DLC thing will only work as long as they keep it either cheap enough that people don't think anything of putting more money down or so incredibly awesome that everyone absolutely "has to have it". My guess is that they'll go with neither of those and it will cost too much for so-so maps and we'll start to see the community befin to fragment into those with and those without the latest expansion.

BTW, BF3 passed 10 Million in Sales recently.

50 x 10,000,000 = $500,000,000. I'd hope that that would cover development costs plus a bit so maybe they can keep the DLC costs low.

You know while SF, and AF were good in BF2, like you said it fragemented the players. Even within GRB it was tough because we had to decide to play those mods or not. Not everyone bought them and that caused divisions. grrrrr
  4. #5
Hell even now BF3 - BF3 Back to Karkand - did everyone (but me) buy Karkand?
  5. #6
Most of us pre-ordered BF3 and it came with Karkand.

I'm more worried about Fragmentation. It's part of the reason I'm so reluctant to run mixxed mode between "mods". Every time they release a new one, they split the community that much further. Of course, they don't care as long as it makes them money.

Buy all of the mods.. Problem solved.

I think I am one of the few here that actually liked 2147.. when I had time for it.

So subscribe for $15.99 a month - how much content do you think they can provide each month for the privilege to play their game?

MMO's are moving AWAY from subscription - offering cash shops for upgraded items allowing free content - and an occasional purchase an adventure pack which has 3 - 7 - 12 new "maps/quests/areas"

Your paying for Star Wars now - ready to start paying for BF3 also?

COD Elite is not a bad thing... Fact... I have it...

Elite gives me all of the expansions that they release in the year and available to stats, contests and other junk...

The cost of it was cheaper than buying a few expansion packs and Black ops had several in a one year span... So it was cost effective to get elite over paying for each expansion...

If EA did the same thing for Battlefield... I would pay for it... As long as they expected to have enough expansions out throughout the year... If not... I wouldn't buy it and just buy the expansions as they came out...

Either way, I buy all expansions for all my games to make sure I am able to play with everyone...

    How much did it cost?
Was it console or PC that you purchased?
Did the content come monthly or once or twice a year?
Did you get it before the great unwashed?

I think it was like 40.00 or something...
    I bought it for console
Content, being expansion packs, come out when they are released. First one was just released to Xbox people, then will go to PS3/PC a month later... [Battlefield has this same setup, just that PS3 gets it before Xbox/PC]
Content in other ways, like contests and crap are all the time... But I don't get into that, just mainly got it for the cheaper access to the expansion packs.

I don't understand the last question unless I answered it already on when things come out and who gets it first.
  14. #16
Looked it up... It cost me 49.99 [$50]

This is what all it comes with...

    - All future Modern Warfare 3 DLC content.
    - Level up your Clan by earning Clan XP through Call of Duty ELITE Clan competitions and unlock additional exclusive Clan benefits
    - Compete year-round in official events and daily competitions for virtual and real-world prizes (tablets, LCD TVs, etc.)
    - Improve your game and fine tune your skills with exclusive in-depth expert strategies, dynamic content and stat tracking tools
    - Get eight times the HD video capacity to upload and share your finest moments
    - Tune in to Call of Duty ELITE TV for original Call of Duty episodic video programming entertainment from top talent, all created for the Call of Duty community
    - Access to future premium features as the service evolves
  15. #17
Did you get it before the great unwashed? = Do premium members get their content before retail purchasers (BestBuy / Game Stop release)

$50 - is that for a life time or a year?
(I know it says all future - but is that all future content this year or in your lie?)
((Our company says all future releases - but the timer starts and it is 365 days from the day you sign up for software updates - is why I ask))

    @ anyone -
Would you buy BF4 if it was $50 off the shelf knowing like Star Wars you would get 30 days free and then need to purchase a subscription to keep playing?

I will be able to get to your last questions here in a bit [working]...

As for this one... It depends on what came with the subscription... If it was just to play online, then no... And I don't think anyone would... There is no content in just playing online to justify a subscription fee...
  18. #20
If I'm correct that's the model for the new Star Wars game.
    Purchase off shelf $50
    Play for free 30 days.
    Subscribe to keep playing.

People are leveling to cap ridiculously fast too - less than 2 or 3 weeks to max out your toon.
  19. #21
No, not at the $50 price point. I'm just now feeling like if I stopped playing BF3 today, I've gotten a decent value out of what I paid for the game. I certainly wouldn't pay for something time limited like that. Charge me $10 for the first month, or maybe even $15 and I'd pay for that. Not sure how long I would subscribe though as it would depend greatly on the quality of the game.

I did the DDO subscription for a year and felt it was worth it for the most part. Turbine has a history of regular updates and content expansion. Combined with the in game benefits of paying in terms of the shared bank, expanded character slots, guild bonuses, and even the DDO Store points, justified the expense as it translated directly to easier success in the game. I don't see how that can translate into FPS well though. DICE can't give subscription players access to significantly better equipment and weapons as that skews the balance of the game and creates an unfair advantage. If they follow the COD Elite path it means a bunch of stuff that I won't likely use and DLC. Since they've made BF "too complicated" to mod, the custom map and mod community has disappeared and enables DICE/EA to step in and make money off what used to be free, community created work.

The deal with mmo's is that they generally have something in them to keep you happy for a long period of time, even after reaching level cap.

If SW:TNR does not do that... I wouldn't pay for it...

I played and paid for WoW for many years... Was worth it to me... They kept me busy pretty much the whole time...
  21. #23
Guess that's what I was getting at..... I just don't see a FPS as a subscription model.
    And succeed.

I like the micro transaction model the best personally, Now if EA did a sub on BF3 that gave me regular patches, new maps and unlocks every month or so, new game modes, etc I could buy into the sub model for a FPS.

However, I prefer the one time payment plus DLC if I have a choice.

Well, Battlefield Heroes was F2P and it didn't do so well. Then there was that Battlfield 4 Free which I don't think ever went anywhere.

They are not starting off so well......

My problem is I hate the carrot and stick aspect of MMO's. Really, I could care less about stuff, but when I'm always at a disadvantage, I just want to stop playing.

Of all the games I've played, DDO has had the best F2P/Subscription setup I've seen. They gave me enough benefits that I wanted to give them $15/month.

  24. #26
Remember that Battlefield Heroes also opened up a cash shop too to let people buy perks that we're never give out to F2P players.

    Failed miserably.
  25. #27
part of it may have been that heros sucked.

    This months understatement post nominee.

Don't think I'd ever pay to play. I already have to pay around $60-$70 a month for internet access. I would buy in to monthly/quarterly expansion packs that you can opt to buy if you want...model it like a war. Land on Normandy, push through France, Belgium etc until getting to Germany. Gradually giving you more maps, different weapons, vehicles etc. If you don't pay than you keep fighting the same battles. Want to try some new stuff shell out $15 bucks. I'd be all for that. I like the game engine. Love shooting rockets into buildings to have them come crashing down on people. It's fun. Give me different guns to try, vehicles to drive, maps to learn I'd be a happy camper for quite some time with this game. As it stands now I'm starting to get the itch to play skyrim.

I don't have a lot of faith in EA. I just don't see this going over well.

Either way, as long as the game remains fun for me, I will shell out the cash most likely.

I work for a giant corporate beast and I have accepted they will do everything in their power to squeeze every penny out of their product they can. Once you realize EA is just a soul sucking corporation you tend to accept that they are driven more by $$$ and once they have you as a customer, they don't really care to work that hard to keep you around. New bling you have to buy makes you more money than putting on a coat of paint, which only has a cost to it.

I have come to just accept EA's shortcomings and when it gets to the point of pissing me off, then I won't give them my cash.

This apparently keeps track of the forthcoming changes in the next patch as far as weapons are concerned.

    http://symthic.com/f/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=471

One thing to note, the M98B will not be nerfed to 80 dmg, Demize has pointed out on twitter they have made a way to keep it at 95 damage.

Looks like Support LMG's are getting some love and the M60E and M240B will actually be worthwhile over the PKP and M249 post patch.

The big items I am excited about are the Chest dmg modifier from 1 -> 1.25 for sniper rifles. This means the MK11 mod 0 & the SKS are going to be awesome aggressive recon weapons. 1 shot kills in the chest at <15 meters....oh and the .44 Magnum gets the bump too!!

    flash suppressor actually looks useful!!
  32. #34
Sounds like some good changes so far. Given all the recoil changes though there will be a few days of getting used to the new settings.

Some things I am happy to see:

-Increased the damage the MBT's primary weapon does to the front and side armor of other main battle tanks. Primarily this means 1 less shot to the front, and very good hits to the side can result in a 1 hit to disable.

-The IGLA and Stinger now lock on much more quickly and disable an attack aircraft in 1 hit, but have significantly reduced range. This should allow Stingers to mount an effective close range point defense, without dominating an entire airspace.

-Laser Guided missiles can now be distracted by Flares.

    -Added Horns to all Jeeps.

-Fixed the Rate of Fire when the USAS and MK3A1 are equipped with FRAG rounds. All other shotguns correctly had a reduced rate of fire with frags, except the USAS and MK3A1.

-Tweaked IRNV to be more consistent across all levels.

-The MAV will now be destroyed when running into a soldier or vehicle at high speed. It is still possible to strategically sacrifice your MAV on a soldier; it will be destroyed in the process.

-The MAV can no longer be used as an elevator.

-The M224 Mortar can no longer be deployed in an area that is out of combat for another team like a home base or other protected spawn.

-C4 will no longer be detonable after a player respawns, if the player is revived within 5 seconds he can still detonate his C4.

    Skyyyy rockets in Fliiiiight.........

Unguided tank rounds and RPGs will now instantly destroy Jets, Attack Helicopters, and Scout Helicopters.

PKP: Reduced recoil but added a slight initial recoil, increased damage at max range. The Pecheneg has a heavy vertical recoil with a hard hitting round and little drift, this makes it excellent at sustained fire.

Both of these seem like good things to me.
