You exit the vehicle in the same direction you are facing.

This is opposite of the previous BF games. This is really important because the days of jumping out of a tank and healing it while in the middle of a fight are over. If you are the gunner and an engineer, be sure to look 180 from the enemy before exiting the vehicle.

Please feel fee to add more tips and tricks to this thread.

For you PC people... This sentence is brought to you by the letter "Q"... That key is more important than any other key on your keyboard.

[For the non PC people... "Q" is the key for 'spotting' people... So spot every single target you see!]

    Support people, throw down ammo!

    Assault people, throw down health!
100 Points for reviving someone... DO IT!

    Got a mic? Use it!

The pain is, you CANNOT unmap Q as your spot button. It allows you to map another key to the spot, but Q still does it.

I have used Q as my push to talk FOREVER, now I can't unmap it.....grrrrr

^The reason I usually have a piddly amount of kills, but appear near the top of the scores.

Also, MEDICS, DO NOT BE THE POINT MAN. You can serve your squad and teammates far better by hanging back a bit and reviving your teammates over and over and over while they take the risk. It saves tickets, and is far more effective than making yourself a meat-shield. Tickets matter most maps, but even if you're defending on rush (and they don't), It's a hell of a lot more effective than them having to respawn and get back to an effective place on the map.

This probably is common sense to most, but I'm saying it anyway, Medic should probably be last choice on a vehicle heavy/outdoor map. You'll be ten times more effective on those as an engineer.

Engineers, w/o a vehicle, works best in pairs. This is especially true of anti-air, as a missile can be flared as fast as you can reload, lock, and fire them. In pairs the first missile takes the flares, and one shot about five seconds later will connect before the vehicle can reload a flare burst. ...If your squad already has 2, consider going support to back them. Infinite missiles kill infinitely more enemy vehicles.

Credit goes to Bawheidbob and hes friend for coming up with this workaround.

I just thought it needed it's own thread for easy finding, since we have ALOT of "Q spotting" related threads 🙂

I have also taken the liberty to "dumb down" the steps on how to do the change.

    Steps:

    1. While in game, rebind the 'spot/communications' (under 'common' in key bindings) to the key you wish to use.

    2. Navigate to My Documents>Battlefield 3>settings.

NOTE: Just in case, I'd recommend keeping a backup of the files in this folder before making changes.

    3. Open the file 'PROF_SAVE_profile' with WordPad, Notepad++ or something similar (you can open it with regular notepad but it will be harder to look through).

    4. Do a "search" in the editor for this string, GstKeyBinding.default.ConceptCommMenu1.0.button

    5. Note the number next to the GstKeyBinding.default.ConceptCommMenu1.0.button (e.g 23)

    5. Copy and paste the following lines into that file (just at the end will do) but change the '255' to the number you noted above (FYI, the number 255 is used if you do not want any key bound to it)

    GstKeyBinding.gunner.ConceptCommMenu1.0.axis 0
    GstKeyBinding.gunner.ConceptCommMenu1.0.button 255
    GstKeyBinding.gunner.ConceptCommMenu1.0.negate 0
    GstKeyBinding.gunner.ConceptCommMenu1.0.type 0

    GstKeyBinding.infantry.ConceptCommMenu1.0.axis 0
    GstKeyBinding.infantry.ConceptCommMenu1.0.button 255
    GstKeyBinding.infantry.ConceptCommMenu1.0.negate 0
    GstKeyBinding.infantry.ConceptCommMenu1.0.type 0

    GstKeyBinding.mav.ConceptCommMenu1.0.axis 0
    GstKeyBinding.mav.ConceptCommMenu1.0.button 255
    GstKeyBinding.mav.ConceptCommMenu1.0.negate 0
    GstKeyBinding.mav.ConceptCommMenu1.0.type 0

    GstKeyBinding.vehicle.ConceptCommMenu1.0.axis 0
    GstKeyBinding.vehicle.ConceptCommMenu1.0.button 255
    GstKeyBinding.vehicle.ConceptCommMenu1.0.negate 0
    GstKeyBinding.vehicle.ConceptCommMenu1.0.type 0

    GstKeyBinding.heli.ConceptCommMenu1.0.axis 0
    GstKeyBinding.heli.ConceptCommMenu1.0.button 255
    GstKeyBinding.heli.ConceptCommMenu1.0.negate 0
    GstKeyBinding.heli.ConceptCommMenu1.0.type 0

    GstKeyBinding.jet.ConceptCommMenu1.0.axis 0
    GstKeyBinding.jet.ConceptCommMenu1.0.button 255
    GstKeyBinding.jet.ConceptCommMenu1.0.negate 0
    GstKeyBinding.jet.ConceptCommMenu1.0.type 0

    6. Once you've pasted that in and changed the six instances of '255' to your number just hit save and you're done. The next time you start up the game you should have successfully moved the spot/commo rose function off the Q key.

Enjoy the game with your new Q bind 🙂

Sadly, I use F which changes the gun on the Tank from Cannon to Gun. Every time I would talk last night, I started shooting Silent with Bullets. ARGH!

I gotta figure out something else for that.

You know I had given you the benefit of the doubt and assumed you were in an APC not a tank.. or your side was just way behing the times and you were about to start in with the crossbows shortly.

That is until you opened your mouth about it.

Without having ROF on there, I can't say much about the spreadsheet. It is good to look at for the sniper rifles though as long as you know which ones are single shot and which are semi-auto.

Good find none the less! 👍

There is a "time to kill" tab there that has both the number of rounds per minute and the expected time to kill a player.

I unlocked the PKP Pecheneg last night but haven't started using it yet but based on the damage numbers I think I will do that next time I play.
  11. #13
Ahh, cool... Didn't see the tabs...

Very interesting fact from that spreadsheet.

The hitbox for headshots may possibly increase in size the longer you stand still. There were numerous moments where we were getting headshots despite aiming for the lower torso or crotch. If this is true, it is a very interesting "secret" measure developed by DICE to discourage camping.

Found the fix for my double audio in the game.

    14# Battlefield 3 Stutter Fix
Turn off Intel Hyper Threading in Bios to fix the issue. You will find the option to disable/enable Hyper Threading in Bios. If that sounds a bit scary, you can wait for DICE to resolve it in the next patch.

You can also try to run the game with one-cpu. I mean run the game by setting the affinity to one CPU. Open your Task Manager, click on the Battlefield 3 process and then on Set Affinity. Select only one CPU from the available and Press OK!/Apply.

Setting either of these settings can have diverse effects, good or bad. So try it if you know what you are doing.

There is a whole lot of fixes for known issues in this link.

W makes you descend faster and S makes you slow down when parachuting.
