Ok, so even though we got effed with a whole 3 days before open, what ya think?

I preloaded on the 29th and for some reason I just happen to wake up at 3:08am. Was like really, I am awake.... guess I can go jump on the beta servers!

As always EA makes buggie shit, Got DirectX errors when I tried to change keybindings, fixed that and updated to the beta nvidia drivers and now I get "bf3 has stopped working" when changing maps. All in all about what I expected from asshats EA and have a feeling this map will be very old within a few days.

    You knew it was coming.
    You just had to know.

Well, it is Beta.... Who cares that it's being released in a few weeks. :-)

I love what I've seen in the videos, but I'm not so sure I won't get burned again....

Since I am now able to tweak with the configurations I changed the default video from windowed to windowed frameless and then to full screen. Not much difference in windowed modes; however, once changed to fullscreen anytime I alt-tab'd I would get crash to desktop with directX error.

I was having some punkbuster issues and ended up re-installing the BETA and it fixed it. I occasionally have to restart Origin to get it to run.

I actually wiped my gaming rig and went to Windows 8 (it has grown on me since my video server is Server 2012). I have gained a bit of performance out of switching to windows 8. Not sure if that has to do with DX11.1 in win 8 or just the fact Win8 is faster than win7.

I am also running the AMD BETA drivers for my 6950. What GPU are you running?

The BETA is completely open, so if you are on the fence, I highly recommend installing it and giving it a go. Personally if you think you are going to buy it, I would recommend pre-ordering it so you get the next expansion free.

EA definitely sucks, but DICE puts out a great game and I have enjoyed the couple of hours I have played so far on the BETA.

So Bubba, how was the Beta? Still glad you bought it?

I downloaded and played almost exactly 10 minutes of the game. I went to try it again a few days later and the beta had closed 🙁

My impression from the few minutes was that felt like it was a new map for BF3. I spawned, shot stuff, and died. I played one class (assault) and shot the default weapon and threw a grenade or two. I got knifed so I got to see the new death animation up close. I didn't get to drive any vehicles, I didn't notice anything that struck me as very much different from BF3 other than the setting, and nothing stood out as being an awesome new feature.

I did play one of the new modes however as I joined a server based on ping and number of people without looking at the game mode. Each team was trying to move a bomb to control points on the map and explode it. We lost, one of my teammates said we sucked. All in all, a normal BF experience 😀

Definitely not enough time to make an informed judgement about the game but first impression was that it is very similar to BF3, which really isn't a big surprise at all.

It downloaded and installed nicely. (I never actually started it up).

From reading up on the game today, it seems like many are calling BF4 more like BF 3.5. It will have many of the same vehicles, sounds, animations, weapons, etc.

That being said, this feature alone will get me to buy the game:

C4; can be thrown again, and can attach to boats

This makes man vs. tank fun again. 😈

whole list of features at this link. Squad tweaks seem pretty cool.

I am also preloaded and ready to go for tonight? Anyone else or am I stuck with Dumber? 🔫

i honestly gave up on Battelfield series.
  13. #13
    Me too,

    skipped BF 2142
Hopped into BF Heros for like 8 minutes and quit the series again

    Then bought BFBC2,
    And quite the series
    then bought BF3,
    and quit the series

    Now I have BF4 Pre-ordered.

I suspect I will be quitting the series next week or so.

    So where is the crack??

It has been a few years for COD for me and the wife asked if I'd like Ghosts for Christmas.

Bubba you've played Blops and Blops 2 right?
Have they turned in to BF4'esque clones - same chit all over again and again and again or is the series still fun?

I've been dabbling with Guns of Icarus online - but only because the guys over at How to Murder time have been buying the 4 pack of steam codes and giving away 3

So a lo of people are trying it. It is not a game you would play month after month but is kind of fun when Tim sets up a private server and everyone on it is also on Mumble and you know them.

4 players per ship - one "should" be pilot but everyone can do everything but a class has special abilities at their class provides.
    Pilot / Gunner / Engineer
Usually run 1 pilot 1 Engy and 2 gunners

Past that - nothing really - I keep on keeping on with WoT (cough cough ...SARGE cough cough) Some time next week they are adding a 2nd German tank destroyer line, which will keep me occupied but it is starting to feel like counter strike with tracks.

Jap tanks are coming but look uninteresting to me - but they just opened an Asian server cluster... and must keep the paying people happy.

I still listen to several gaming podcasts and NOTHING sounds fun or worth a look (to me) they are all DDO'esque time sinks.

That post on Knights of the old republic space battles look cool but that is Feb 2014 + and still may suck.

    World of Warplanes sucks ass.
World of Warships is in Alpha so next year sometime. Hope that does NOT suck.

I still run L4D2 and TF2 as the old stand by and that is about it really.

Anyone see or hear about anything worth while?

I did have BLOPS and BLOPS2. I enjoyed them, but I have enjoyed all of the COD since COD4. I played a couple hours of BLOPS2 this weekend. Still fun. It's a much quicker fix than a battlefield, I find it doesn't get boring, if you are on a lousy map it switches quick enough to not make the <rage quit> happen.

.....so what about COD Ghosts - everyone in for a go?
I don't recall us ever playing much COD together - but I did with Joe over at From the Ashes - his old COD clan.

    hmmmmm ?
  17. #17
You know I played a lot of COD4, some with Sarge and the "Lexx bunch". I played A LOT of solo COD W@W. I could probably be conned into Ghosts.

I am also pre-ordered and pre-loaded. Was thinking about setting up a VPN to get access today but I got a few "honey-do's" to do around the house this evening. I will be on and off all day tuesday playing. So much for getting work done at work this week.

I think I'll have to skip COD in the short run. Burned my game dollars (and spousal goodwill) on BF4.

Saw bubba on the HT server the other night but the map was just ending. So far only issues I have had are with freezing sound loop on Siege of Shanghai and Dawnbreaker maps. Hopefully they will fix it because I have read a lot of people having issues on Shanghai. Also my gtx 770 video card will be in tomorrow.... woot!
  21. #21
    770.....<drool>

Nice to see you in game!
  22. #22
I am jealous of the 770...I am still on my old OC'd 6950 3GB. I plan on upgrading to a R9 290x non-reference when they start hitting the market.
