Here's a promo video from the DCon alpha build. While no release date is given it does show that they are getting "close".

The video was only so so but I will say that, in theory, I am more excited about this mod than I have been over anything since BF2 itself came out.

I never liked the original 1942 that much but when Desert Combat came out, we just played that to death.
That is why I like Bf2 so much, it really was the next step up.

I just really hope others get into it if it is good. Since it will obviously be unranked it may not get much play like other mods have been subject to. The lame community at times is more hung up on stats and ranks than some good game play. Sure we have had some fun games in other mods but they really don't seem to take off as much as I would like to see.

Here is the thing though, will we play this as a clan more than the once or twice curiosity play? Time will tell I guess. 😉

Below is a snip-it from an open letter to the community that can be found here: http://www.desert-conflict.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5586

I like the CTF coming back and LOVE the helo changes. It will make them harder to fly which actually makes that better for me. I was starting to get good with them in DC. Lexx was always good with them as well.

Mortars?? Will my precious be back? 😉

    -------------------------

We've listened to the fan base since day 1 and we've tried to implement alot of the communities suggestions into the game. Some have been far fetched and zany and some have been realistic. However, all have been read and all of them answered in one shape or another by a developer. We interact with our fan base quite regularly and we have our hand on the pulse of our community. You guys make DCON what it is. We just build the stuff. You guys have created the mod in the end. You didnt want lock-on missles, we tossed them out and gave you dumb fires. You didnt want auto hovering helos, we tossed that out as well with a smile and have worked very hard on getting the helo flight physics close to DC as we can. You then said well we want the old maps back like El Al. We gave you that one and many more. You wanted the look and feel of what DC was with a splash of Bf2ism.. YOUR GONNA GET IT GUYS!!! You wanted player controlled Arty.. YEA we got that too. Then you wanted CTF for all the classic maps.. Bingo done, cross that off your list guys. Then we went and created even more game play modes to make the maps more replayable. Oh have we got a treat for you.
You wanted solid infantry combat, you got that too along with solid air and armor combat. The planes are quite good in my opinion and so are the helos. We're happy with the spectrum of changes we've been able to make over previous release candidates. We think you all will be to. However the team will be open to suggestions after our release in regards to the planes and how they handle.
After release the Devs will be playing DCON right along side you all for a bit as we take a small break to relax and get started on our next release. We find it extremely important that we reach out the fans as much as you all have reached out to us.

What was your favorite map back then?
I had a few favorites but all the maps for 1942 were good as well as the expansion packs maps. Thank goodness DC played on most of them.
Damn I cannot remember all the names off hand anymore. I hate getting old 😉

I do remember really loving a DC 1942 map called Monti Casino or something like that. 🙂 I loved it as it was a push map. You had to take a flag, then the another right in a row up a hill. You ended up at an old church then it just to heave fighting. Man that was fun. DocJon, Lexx and I really had a good time on that one. I love that type of map sometimes.

Another one I REALLY loved was one based on Hitlers Bunker. That was another good push map. Man trying to cross or defend that bridge was a blast!

I remember another good one that was bacially various outposts in the desert. that was a good helo map.
One that had "gardens" in the name was also really good. It had two bridges. I really liked that map.

I also remember soooo many other maps being made. man those were fun times...
Man thinking back they had a TON of good maps back then. They really should have ported some of these.

Monte Cassino was a 42 map from the Road to Rome expansion. It was a blast and happens to be the only map I have ever gotten a gold medal with 0 deaths. I was in the arty back at the main covering the troops going up the hill. 50 and 0 was a nice score. :-)

I did not know they made it a DC map. Was it actually in the mod or just a map pack for DC?

The map of hitlers bunker sounds like one of the maps from the Secret Weapons expansion.

We played this extensively when it first released the CTF mod. I really loved CTF, but there was one flaw with CTF on BF2. Being able to spawn on the squad leader ruined the experience. I hope they fixed that.

I think my favorite DC maps, and I didn't play it all that much, were Bridge CTF and Lost Village.

Will we play it a lot? I don't know. At this point, I am more excited about EoD than DCon because I enjoy the close quarters infantry combat more than I do the wide open armor/air warfare that was mostly what DC was about and what it looks like DCon will be. Like with Vanilla BF2, I will probably be more interested in playing the smaller urban maps that mix armor and infantry with less focus on the air power. I'm not going to pre-judge it though - that takes the fun out of the anticipation for a new mod 😀

Wow just in time for FnF if we can all get them.

No way. Its gotta be hugh, and I absolutely hate rushing to d/l something that large at the last minute. I'll gladly get it for next week.

If its possible, I sure would like to see this installed on our server for a weekday tryout. I wouldn't use a Friday for it until its patched out as they were discussing in that thread. This is one mod I've been looking forward to, and probably the only one I'd ever consider messing with.

On a related issue, I found my BF1942/rome/sweapons serial #'s, but the jewels are empty. If this Dcon mod is any good at all and has the old maps, would save me the trouble of d/loading replacement images.

As people keep telling me, FnF's are NOT really organized anyway. We basically do whatever so we could see if people get it.

If not that is cool we will do SF IO again. I am siked okay? 😉

I am just open to doing whatever. The wife is getting surgery Friday morning so I may not be able to do much gaming anyway. It is up in the air.

I'm looking forward to DCon as well, but isn't it just TYPICAL that they'd release it on FRIDAY? WTF is that about anyway? If they're releasing the server software on Wednesday, couldn't they release the client on THURSDAY at least?

Fridays on the release of a new mod would be more fun if they could at least release on THURSDAY!!!!!!!

    🤦

I feel the same way. Stop doing Friday Releases. When we released the conversion mod, it was on a Thursday so every could have it come Friday.

Assuming that we do get it and want to play, [OSF] should have a 64 player server up or we could host it ourselves.

Doesn't matter to me as the SF IO was much fun as well, even in the dark.

If it comes out at 4PM EST that gives us 5 hours to get it 😉

Hell we can try. Only a handful of us turn out on Fridays anyway so...

Yeah, but who wants to turn away even ONE person from FNF without giving them a reasonable chance to get what they need? If it were a Thursday release, I'd say fuck 'em if they couldn't be bothered to get it 😀 . . .but a FRIDAY release, with all the bogged-down connections we'll have from so many ppl trying to get it at once. . .I can't be sure if even those of us who are highly motivated and have time to spare on Friday afternoon will be able to get it by Friday evening.
  15. #17
It's not worth it. Play it Saturday, but we had a good turn out last Friday Night. We need to be consistent and do it again.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Send me an email where she's at and I'll stop in after the operation if she is up for company afterwards.

She will most likely be at the house. It is considered outpatient surgery these days. They do not seem to keep you in a room for anything anymore.
