I am trying to modify the FOV settings. In doing so, I need to edit the settings.ini file which doesn't appear on my system. I read that playing the game will create the file. It didn't work. So, I jumped in just to play one map and played three.
This is the first BF game that I feel like a n00b. It has tons of kit options, that aren't unlocked until you've played a while. The old system of spawn points and map points are replaced by what feels more like a space game, than a BF game. Glowing Circles and Triangles just don't feel right to me.
In the first two maps, I was owned. I tried playing a medic and failed terribly. I switched to Recon and decided to stay outside the main battles and assist from afar. My sniping skills in this game leave a lot to be desired. So, by the third map, I had switched to good old assault. I went from a K/D ratio of .25 in the first two maps to a K/D of 2.5 in the third.
I started playing smarter, skirting the edges of the towns and coming in from behind. I stood back and watched what was occurring on the minimap. I also found that I can play this game by sound, which is something I feel gives me a slight edge and I love doing anyway. By doing this, I actually started killing people. woohoo!
Here are a few things I learned.
There is not prone, only crouch. This sucks for Recon, but does a lot to make straight up fights more about shooting and less about who can hit the ground first. Crouch is done through the left CTRL key. Under settings, you can change it from hold down to toggle if you like. I prefer toggle so I don't have to stretch out to the CTRL key. Sprinting uses the good ole shift key. I did not see a toggle for it.
Oh yea, I played conquest. I figured it was easier to stick with what I know. I also filtered out Hardcore servers as I've read it's not as fun.
So, the million dollar question. Did it bother me. Unfortunately, yes it did. But, it wasn't as bad as CoD and I may be able to play through it or at the least, take a break every so often.
Did I like it? Yea, I actually enjoyed the third map once I started getting the feel for the game. That third map felt a lot like BF2 Special Forces and I actually enjoyed that expansion as much or more than BF2. And the jeep like buggy's are freaking fast and loose. It was almost more fun driving them than playing the game itself. Also, the destructible environments are absolutely awesome. I was in a tank as a gunner and he literally ran over the trees and pushed them down. It was really cool.
What I am really looking forward to, is playing with you guys on a squad using Vent. With the ability to spawn on any squad member, it will be fun to play with the squad stuff. Also, with our friends at CGC, it might be fun to beat up a few persons who will remain nameless. 😈
