It's their right to do, but yeah that mod has taken a rough turn for the worse.
They're not charging for the license, they're not profiting. The gist of the post makes it look like some was doing something odd with the software. Maybe someone was making their own mods to it, and they're just trying to make sure that when people log into a PR server, they get the same experience everywhere. Anyone know the real story?
I don't like PR, but it doesn't seem especially wrong-headed.
The story is that a particular group (It may have been our old friends at CDU - not 100% on that though) was doing server side mods that were not "in the spirit" of PR. In other words, they were reducing spawn times and things like that. There was also a huge discussion in the PR forums a while back because some groups were running with friendly fire reduced or off - which is also a big no-no according the the PR Devs.
I was thinking more EA like in that they were limiting who they would give server licenses to only. They are not EA like in that they seem to listen to their community for the most part, which unfortunately for some reason, seems to not like fun.
I like a lot of the things that PR did, but some of the changes that they made to the game just made it a chore to play because you couldn't just do the things that needed to be done and react to threats as necessary.
Sounds like they are trying to make a game into a re-enactment.. 'Stitch-Counters' is the phrase that real Civil War Re'enactors use when someone is trying to be a little 'too' real and have to have everything exactly right down to the time an army enters the field and the stitches on the uniform... a bit of that seems to be going on.
Sarge, I think your right about cdu. I read they were switching their Server Side modding efforts from PR to DC.
It sounds to me like they have their heads too far up..... in the clouds, yea, that's the ticket.....
