I frikin' hate gaming anymore. Stupidity, smacktards, and lack of teamwork. . .gaming is supposed to be something you enjoy.

The patches helped some, eventually. The mods haven't helped much. The last 2 mods, EoD & Dcon, have in some regards, been a step backwards by catering to the bunny hoppers by letting them jump and shoot. . .if Dcon is gonna do that stuff, at least give the AT guys a pump shottie. No teamplay + no vehicle driving means you get slaughtered by vehicles, unless you're AT. No half-decent infantry weapon for AT + no teamplay means you get your ass handed to you by infantry. . .quickly, easily, and from any range. If I can't get even REMEDIAL teamplay, at least give me what I need to lone-wolf it.

The much-desired jungle maps in EoD means ppl lie in weeds and snipe, 'cause you get claymored & sniped if you move in the open or try to take to take a flag. I know, because I've been sniping and claymoring ppl like crazy. What the hell game were they playing when they thought those mortars were OK? Judging from what they released (even after Bubba, and probably others, told them they were too much) I bet the next release will bring a MINIMAL change there.

PPL run away from a flag being captured, don't seem to notice when you spot enemy near your flag. . .I liked this game because of the teamwork aspect, and 2 years later, I go on a server, and I might as well be playing deathmatch.

I don't think BF2 will ever yield the gameplay I'd hoped for, even in mod form. Two years of disappointment.

I tried like hell in beta testing EoD to jump and shoot and couldn't do it. In Dcon, I found using the AT and the pistol I could do a decent job defending myself but more often than not I foudn myself sticking with a couple infantry men, and didn't have an issue. I did also find being in vehicles helped my survival rate too.

As for the mortars and snipers, I think you will see improvement. They didn't get a large enough test base to see they woould be over powered. I think with few mortars and a longer reload time, that situation would change. I think with snipers at 2 shot kills, the sniper kit would be useless for many of those who use it now. Most people can't hit a moving target with a sniper rifle... especially not twice.

The last thing I can tell you is, you got to adapt with the game. I never did well sticking with one kit. I found even in bf1942, when you respawn, pick the kit your team or your spawn point needs. If you need to be in an AA vehicle, do it, drive it somewhere safe and take down planes.

nothing is ever perfect. PR is 100% teambased and you guys wouldn't play it cause it was too hard. I understand that it's a tough mod, but you got to try to adapt to the gameplay of the game you are playing.

Thats a good attitude Bubba. The best I could make of the mod was to miss BFV since it played so bad. I plan to re-install that for this weekend.

I think I know why mods are so laggy for me. I have too many IDE drives stacked up in my case on a promise card. Since it would be impossible to remove the drives, I'm kinda stuck at the moment.

I was heading in that direction myself for awhile there. I was tired of what I deemed a smacktard fest.

It is not Battlefield man, it is PUBLIC gaming. EVERY game has this same crap.
Your specific BF2 points are valid though. BF2 has things it could change to help, I agree.

I just think the overall problem is smacktards as we say. They are what ruin games. Punishing people for no reason then TK-ing you. Being in a squad then running away doing their own thing, usually NOT in the team’s best interest but their own stats.
So the main problem is many "people" are self centered assholes these days and it reflects in games so on pubs you get a lot of this. 🙂

Just today I was driving to work and had to slow down to let a wild turkey cross the road. The guy behind me flew around me and beeped. Now he could not wait 10 seconds?? Smacktards are everywhere!

Look at other driving behaviors, people are total assholes when they drive. Cutting you off, stealing parking spaces, not using turn signals, speeding..on and on…

I bring this up as driving is like gaming. You are basically anonymous and equal. The biggest guy and smallest 16 year old girl is the same on the road. You are both behind the wheel of a huge piece of moving machinery. Sure bigger cars change things but basically you are free to act bolder than you normally would when confronted face to face. It is the same online, everyone is equal. The 16 year old little kid is in the game and you usually cannot tell him from a seasoned vet 40 year old.

So the overall solution is easy, be on a squad and on a team that work together.
If you were on a good team the AT kit would be fine as you would have backup.

The easiest way to achieve this is be in a clan. We are already on one so we need more members to play at various times. We are working on this.

What I think would be even better is to find other clans to have an agreement with so we can play with other clans and know each other’s tags and be cool with each other. We need to find good people to game with. So if we go on pubs and see some =VF= or ICE guys, we know to join their squad as they would be cool with us. We need more of this with other clans. That would solve many problems having cool people to play with.

While I am here I want to say believe it or not BF2142 has a lot less of this. Teamwork is really encouraged as you get points and field upgrades sticking with the SL. You also get squad UAV's and other perks. No kit seems to be overly powerful and it is more infantry based. It is not perfect and there will always be smacktards and idiots on your own team but it seems to be a bit less annoying on pubs. You still may have to change squads here and there but I find it to be a bit better this way overall. Now this is from my limited time in game mind you. I do not have hundreds of hours in it.

    Flame on…

You are installing BFV? Why? Nothing that good with that game. We hardly played BFV when we had it. It seemed to die off very fast.

So you have 4 additional IDE HD's in your system? I am unsure how that is affection your game play man.
You are not accessing those while you play are you? If not then that should have no effect on you. Are you sharing those on your network? Are others using them while you play?

If he has them in a RAID configuration, i can see the disk IO overhead with IDE.

True but I am fairly sure he does not use RAID. Also that would affect anything he does including his UT.
Unless that is installed someplace else 😉

I actually really liked BFV. I installed BF1942/DCF last week and it was a nice change of pace.

I have 2IDE+1Sata+2IDEDVD on moto, 2IDE on promise card, plus 3 usb externals IDE's. I think the IO is polling too often, but they are all linked to the network and loaded with data. If I unplug the promise card everything 'seems' faster, like startup booting, etc.

Didn't have any probs until those 2 BF2 mods, if that is the prob even. I reloaded Farcry and it worked like a charm on highest rez, same with 1942, Q4, HL2, CS, UT and mods.

The x800 seems to be working just fine with everything else at high rez's. I just suspect the crappy BF engine causing most of my irks 🙂

I should probably just setup a server, but have never gotten around to it, opting to put 11#s in a 10# bag.

Lexx there is no reason to keep all those 5Gb Hdds. Buy one 250Gb and you'll have more than enough space. ;-)

Thats 8HDD's!!! Holy poopy, I thought I was bad for having 2 installed and running 2 shut off in the bios with other OS partitions for when I need em. And 2 drives that I hook up with a USB interface if needed.
But 99.9% of the time I am only running 2 HDDs

You know I know people hate EA etc.... but technically the BF2 engine is actually pretty damn good.

It can handle 64 players fairly well on a good server and that is a LOT of data to keep track of when you think about it. The UT engine cannot even do that. I have played on large BF2 servers with a ton of action going on all over the place with 64 people AND vehicles AND effects and the game runs fairly smooth. I know it can crash at times on certain hardware and I know sometimes the game has bugs but the engine itself is really good. Do not judge bugs in the game code to the engine.

EA does not supply good tools like the UT folks so mods probably are not nearly as clean as they could be.

    Buba I won't say how many HD's I have 😉

I played EoD on Ninjaserve last night for (pretty much) the first time since release and had a really good time. After the initial map (closefire = sniper's paradise) where I just died a lot, I found a decent squad and changed my tactics a bit to be more sneaky and move quickly, or in other words, do everything that I could to avoid exposure to snipers. It worked and my squad mates and I cleaned up, or at least held our own for the next half dozen or so maps that we played.

The sniper weapons in EoD definitely need to be nerfed somehow and my understanding is that is going to happen sooner rather than later along with some other changes.
