Cool stuff from DDO

So Atomm, Bubba, Sarge and I did a quest tonight that, not surprisingly, ended suddenly with us getting a drink at the pub and repairing our stuff. Here are some highlights.

I went around trading in my collectibles after everyone left. I looked in my collectible bag, and in my bank, and I had 3 Small Eberron Dragonshard Fragments. I didn't see where they were useful in any rituals to improve your equipment, so off I went. I went to 3 different ppl, and they all offered something different. I don't remember what they were now, but here's what I got.

Crap. It's bound to my account. I sure would sell it if I could. I could probably get a nice price for it. If it were one additional rest per dungeon, I'd like it, but one rest and it goes away? How do you decide to use it? If you use it when things are desperate, everyone will probably die anyway. If you use it when you have a decent chance to get out alive, then maybe you don't need to use it. . .

Here's more on Small Eberron Dragonshards and their value in trade, and the auction house:
    http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=203099

I wish I had sold 'em and had some gold to buy what I wanted, instead of a really nifty-keen one-time-use item that I'll hem and haw about ever using. I think I can still auction it, but I'm gonna wait for the weekend. More ppl play then, and there's more auction action.

    Here's my old toy:

It was a cool flaming sword that did 2-9 damage, and an extra 1d6 fire damage (3-15). If a creature was of lawful alignment, it did an extra 2d6 damage (5-27). Sweet. Except, even though it didn't say so, you had to be of Chaotic alignment to use it or suffer a penalty. I still could have used it, but I didn't think style compensated for the reduction in my 'to hit' stats. So I sold it. Base price of 32,000, I had bought it for ~7,500 gold knowing I could get more for it if I decided against it, and I did, selling it for 15,000 gold. The kind of deal I like: I made out, and the guy I sold it to got a good deal too. AFAIK, no one here is chaotic, and a lot of you don't even use swords, and Atomm has his +4 now, so I didn't bother asking if you guys needed it.

So I went back to my +5 sword(6-13 damage). Fairly nice, as swords go, but without the style of the flaming sword.

    Here's my new toy:

It's a step down, in one aspect, from my current +3 bow, but it gives me an additional 1d6 in acid damage to go with the 3-10 damage from the arrow. So, 4-16 damage. If I use my fire arrows with it, that will add a 1d6 in fire damage, so 5-22. I have a +1 damage bonus for long and short bows to my character, so that's 6-23, and there's a 3x damage for critical hits (5% chance), though I have no idea what damage is figured in that.

Finally, it has a Precise Shot feat, which means I can shoot through all you guys beating up on the bad guys and still hit them! Makes up for the +1 step down from my +3 bow, I think. I wanted a FROST bow, but I think their immense damage against things like Fire elementals drive up the price. Still, an acid bow with fire arrows will do a lot of damage to a lot of creatures, and if a creature is immune to one type, it probably isn't immune to both.

I think all of those creatures are chasing down Bubba 😀

Another instance of us getting into something we weren't quite prepared for. We need to seriously rethink our strategy in the cases where we are entering an unknown area with unknown enemies. I think a slower, "lets not get everything chasing us" approach may have worked better last night 😀

That's some sweet gear and very useful recharge for you. I'll have to see how many of the small dragonshards I have. I'm pretty sure I have two at least. Were the people you sold them to in the harbor or marketplace?

Okay so now you guys are not only playing in the middle of the week but playing new cool adventures like it is a FNF or something? Kind of unfair. Then when you have to re-playing it all over again, you get sick of it or not want to play it on a FNF as you will want yet another new thing. Even if you do re-play it it is not fresh.

The fun of doing something new is it is fresh and we all discover everything together. Ruins the fun when everyone but me has done it already... Also was this a paid adventure??

I just thought that the middle of the week was for doing higher levels of ones we already did on normal.

At least post a specific night you will do this so I can attempt to play it...

I just cannot play every night to keep up with this game, especially since my main computer is down.

    <sigh>

    Paladin,

Breath In....... Let it out..... Breath In...... Let it out..... Now, feel better?

We are just doing whatever during the week. The major FNF events are still for paid adventures. This was just a random, hey, what's this quest like?

I'm only getting on from time to time and I've missed stuff, but it's really no big deal. There is still more stuff than you could ever play with a single character. We've already leveled passed several pay dungeons, so even then, there are more than we could hope to do.

    What map was that guys?
    It looks cool.

As a side note - what level is everyone?
I just made Lvl7 Barbarian about 30 min ago.

I'll make another character for week day play if I'm getting to far in front of everyone (I think Doc is 7 also) but getting too far in front is a bad thing.

P.S. Doc is the black in the back ground the map or your view distance?
  6. #6
Doc is dead for those screenies, hence the black.
  7. #7
That map is in House Jurasco - Level 6 but I've forgotten the name....

Sorry I just feel left out. I am a lonely and pathetic person..... 🙂

Seriously I am not mad, it just seems that all of a sudden there are cool new things to play where not long ago we all just ran around the market trying to decide whether to go into the waterworks yet again or not. 🙂

  9. #9
Well, I think we have all learned there are lots of quests everywhere and we are checking them out.
I did buy the game to play it, and well I am going to do that, whether in a group or alone.
  10. #10
....and it will only get cooler to!

We'll get-r-done together sooner or later.

All you missed was getting killed and having to pay for repairing your stuff. You've done that before. 🙂

Have you all seen the guilds called PermaDeath?

    RedDragon PermaDeath Guild.

    http://reddragonpd.guildportal.com/Guild.a...TopicID=8592820

Basically - you only play with your guild, not PUG's - have to create a Lvl1 character only play a dungeon once on normal or hard ONCE - no farming (playing again for EXP or loot)

If you die you delete the character and re-roll a new one - hence PermaDeath guilds.

    Pass.....
  13. #13
just what everyone wants a two page rule set.

"You're dead. . . roll a new character!" I say that as a joke, but someone did that!

Good God, we don't have enough grief in our real lives. . .

Don't worry Bubba. I'm working on the 20 Page set of GRB rules as I type...... Quizes shortly after release.... 😛

Is the first rule, "Read everything thoroughly before acting.", and is the last, "Ignore all of the above"? 😀

I had a teacher do that to me in 4th grade. He said something to the effect of
"Do not pick up your pencil until I explicitly tell you to."
he then moved on to a few minutes of lecture
he then said time for a pop quiz.
    he slowly asked 10 questions
I refused to lift my pencil through 8
at question 9 I panicked that he was going to yell at me for being too literal and I had spied that every other kid in my class was writing, so I picked up my pencil and filled out all 10 questions quickly.
he collected the papers and told us that we all got a 0 for that quiz.

I was so pissed that he hoodwinked me...
  19. #19
But why did you drop out afta' that - school does get better over time.
Now you can't go back and finish elementary school. - your statute of limitations has expired.

A teacher did that to me in 9th grade, only it was a mimeograph. At the top, it said to read every question carefully before writing, and the last thing on the paper said to disregard everything above, sign the paper, and turn it in. I skimmed the paper quickly, saw the "gotcha", and so I sat for 20 minutes doing nothing while my classmates were busy writing. A couple of my friends looked at me like I was crazy. I had an advantage that you didn't: I could sit there and read the first part, and the last part, over and over to reassure myself that I wasn't crazy.

If there's one thing in this world I do well, it's take a test. I had a guidance councilor call me into his office to ask me if I cheated on whatever the hell those standardized tests everyone had to take are called. I just test well. Too bad there's no money in it. 🙂

  21. #21
Bubber got pwn'd by peer pressure!

Yea, I always did well on the standardized tests too. It got me into honors classes, which was funny because I was C student, except for those few honors classes. My biggest regret was dropping Honors Physics on the first day of my senior year because I wanted to take it easy. I heard they did all sorts of cool experiments......

  22. #22
Same way for me. I did really good on the SATs, that and the fact I was an asset to the football team were what got me accepted into a top 10 ranked engineering school in the country... I was a C+ student.

This exact same thing happened to me but way earlier on that 9th grade. Hell it must have been 4th or 5th grade.. I was the only kid that seen that last statement and sat there not writing. Weird... 🙂

I am actually not good on most tests. I get nervous or something, unsure. Depended on the course. All my programming, science and computer classes I got A/B's but most other classes I got C's and some B's. I think if I was interested, I did well. I always had a hard time just getting by if I had little interest. It is all or little for me I guess 🙁

Math tests were my worse, I went along learning that when you see this you apply that but then the test would come at the end of the term and they just say solve this. I could not remember what solution from the past to apply to the problem. Math and me never got along well... 🙂

I remember one Algebra test that I totally blanked on. I could honestly not remember anything at all, nothing. To be fair I had to walk some distance in the freezing cold and snow to get to class, maybe that contributed? Either way it was embarrassing. Only time THAT happened at least.

I asked some questions in the /ADVICE channel in DDO, and found out about the Stone Skin spell.

10/Adamantine means that it will absorb the first 10 points of damage except when done by adamantine weapons. It's a good spell for battles, but I think we got hosed when expecting it to protect us from fire traps and the like. The first 10 points out of 120 points of damage doesn't help a lot. . .

So maybe we can do some more experimenting with the Stone Skin spell. It's expensive though. . .25 platinum a shot, because of the special component. As we go up another level or two, that will be less of a problem, as we start hauling in the big loot!

GREAT quest tonight. A BEHOLDER! Cool. . .and the loot actually made the dying and effort worthwhile for a change!

  25. #25
Best (only) pic or R'izzx I could get - which was about a microsecond before Sarge got vaporized.

(have a larger pic, but it's LARGER)
  26. #26
And vaporized I was. I went from +88 to -90 hp in seconds 🙁
  27. #27
Yah I was playing Taming the Flames on Elite yesterday and was hit for -491 form a Greater Named Fire Elemental....

Sad thing is we went back 3 more time before I left the PUG...... not a big fan of doing it over and over and over when it hits for damn near 500 points.

Tha Beholder zapped me with the purple ray and took away all my spells, no ability to cast - when it died I was able to re-heal but during the fight.... nada.
  28. #28
wow.... I missed some awesome stuff.....

  29. #29
I've only done this on Normal - would love to try it on hard with you and Bubba - ha had to split last night.... would be real fun.

What happens when my TELEPORT spell has a catastrophic failure:

I was fortunate in this pic, I had cast Feather Fall prior to Teleporting. Duck and Paladin can tell you I wasn't so lucky Saturday night, when I found out the answer to the question, "Can you cast Feather Fall when you are already falling?" At least I didn't have to pay for repairs, as nothing was broken. Uncommonly decent of them there, I thought.

I spotted his guy with an interesting ability/perk, "DM's Vision." I haven't seen this "true-seeing" spell yet.

Duck, Paladin, and I got a free bag to hold all our dragonshard fragments! Something for us to do the next time the rest of you guys are in-game.
  31. #31
I have Tru-Seeing as a spell - just have it loaded it 'cuz I have not seen a reason to load it.... Says I can see traps, trap turn off boxes, people that are invis, blurred.

Her's what Doc looked like after he wewnt SPLAT

Talk about a night of horrors - I can't tell you how many times we died from "Hey I wonder if we can do this map. or Hey their just Black wolves with red glowing demon eyes.... how tough can the REALLY be?"

Ask Paladin about Hiding in Plain sight..... LOLz....
So Duck - how many times can you resurrect me again?????
  32. #32
How the heck did teleport put you so high in the air? That's nuts.....
  33. #33
Atomm wrote:How the heck did teleport put you so high in the air? That's nuts.....

That's why the words "catastrophic failure" were used. Rolled a 1, I guess, and failed my saving throw. Weird that it happened twice in 2 days. Gotta remember to throw up a Featherfall spell before I teleport.

    We enjoyed the show.

    Duck wrote:We enjoyed the show.

And that's the important thing, isn't it? 😀 Glad you liked, 'cause I'm sporting some new featherfall boots these days. Drop me on my head once, shame on you. . .drop me on my head twice, shame on me!
  36. #37
Thats cool. Might have to get that for the ingredients alone....

  37. #38
Out in Menectarun w/ Dduck lvl 10 Ranger and Spitzur - Hit the rare that drops Bloodstone - I know why people farm all day for it.
    +6 to Critical hit roll.
    +6 Critical hit confirmation.
+6 Critical hit damage BEFORE multiplier is calculated.

Dduck is easily shooting 120hp on critical's with his bow now..... and he does not have much in the way of enhancements for criticals - may hand it off to Ddurzo or Bbander who do have much more in to pre-critical rolls...... but seeing BIG numbers for a lvl 10 ranged toon..... is too cool.
  38. #39
    that is awesome
  39. #40
I agree with Bubba. I need to get back out there with both of my characters....
  40. #41
I agree - I thought the Bloodstone was a +2 to all stats (Str, Con, Dex....) but that trinket is called vial of royal blood (or some such thing)

All in all I think Durzo will get it, as he has multiple hits per swing and it shows up as multiple crits for each hand.

And Dduck just is not that close up to need to beat them down as fast as Durzo does. I did not see a great improvement with Bbender but that could be that he has three categories as a fighter put in to critical hits, where Durzo and Dduck only have one each.

  41. #42
Actually had fun out there last night. Did not get a bloodstone, but am willing to try again as it would be an awesome addition to both the monk and ranger. I plan to run my Monk out there as soon as I've finished wrapping up a couple of other outside areas.
  42. #43
I still need about 1k Gnolls..... After that, I'm swearing off Mech for life!

  43. #44
Run 4 toons and then cry me a river !

Not sure where to post this.... so might as well be here.

    From Jerry at DDOCAST.COM

After hearing about this from Twitter I headed over to my local GameStop today to see if it was true and it was: DDO Turbine Point cards are now available at GameStops across their massive chain. This is particularly great news for people who need the flexibility of paying cash and the like, including people without credit cards or bank accounts in addition to several other factors.

They come in two flavors, a $10 card for 750 Turbine Points and a $25 card for 2000 TP. The prices are relatively comparable to the "regular" price of TP in-game, although people particularly looking for "the best deal" will want to take advantage of Turbine's numerous sales and such. However, this will be a great way for many to play DDO and has been a frequently-requested thing from players. Nice!

For comparison, here's the official price listing of TP for regular prices on DDO.com:

    POINT BUNDLE DESCRIPTION PRICE (USD)*
420 Points 400 Turbine Points (+ 20 Bonus Points) to use in the DDO Store $6.50
1,550 Points 1,200 Turbine Points (+ 350 Bonus Points) to use in the DDO Store $19.50
2,500 Points 1,820 Turbine Points (+ 680 Bonus Points) to use in the DDO Store $29.50
5,000 Points 3,100 Turbine Points (+ 1,900 Bonus Points) to use in the DDO Store $49.99

Yeah, I am one of those lucky people with no bank account to speak of (long story.. not worth it) so I grabbed a few of the $25 cards yesterday. You dont really loose any bonus points, $25=2,000 tp, but unfortunately when they are running the huge bonus for $50 worth of tp you might feel a bit jipped.
Personally I found it to be worth it considering I *finally* capped my sorc last night!!
