Because you know we're heading there again sooner or later.

The Crucible Maze is one of the more complicated things in the game, probably hated only a little less than The Pit and the Swimming section of the Crucible.

However, this should get you through the Crucible Maze very quickly. This guide assumes you have at least three people in the party.

    Prelude

Look at the map. You enter the maze at the section labeled Start. Throughout the maze you’ll run into some orcs and gnolls that are hanging out. In addition, you will have some gnoll archers and perhaps some gnoll casters up on top of the maze. In each step below, I’m not going to explain all the mobs you have to kill. I’m assuming you’ll kill them as you follow my directions to each spot.

Your task in here is to collect 3 Crests that will fit in 3 different crest sockets that will open up the middle of the maze and allow you to collect a HORN. The 3 crests are always in the same locations in the maze, but the type of crest at each location is random. For example, the Scorpion crest could be in one location the first time you run it, but in a different location the next time you run it. This really doesn’t matter to us. We need all 3 anyways.

In addition, there are 3 sets of doors in the maze. Each set of doors is controlled by a specific valve that causes all 3 doors to “move” at the same time. Each valve is marked with a rune that looks like an I, K, or H. These valves are marked on the supplied map and colored the same as the doors they control. The steps below will tell you when to turn each valve.

First thing: Never jump in the Maze (until the end). Supposedly this will spawn the gnoll casters that are a pain in the butt because they cast sleet storm like crazy.

Second thing: If you have a caster in the group capable of Phantasmal Killer or Firewall, it’s pretty easy to get rid of the gnolls on top. Otherwise you can try to range them. It’s best to get rid of them as you find them as you have to split up the group and retrace routes a couple of times.

Third thing: I’m going to use a phrase throughout this guide that has the form of “Keep your left (or right) hand on the wall and keep running until you get to X”. This means that you should imagine running along the maze with that hand touching the wall and never letting go until you get to the spot mentioned. This mnemonic device is very useful in here and prevents people from getting lost throughout the twists and turns.

    Let’s get Started

    * Whenever you find crests, always have the same person pick them up. This person should be someone who can handle killing 2-3 orcs by themselves if necessary.

    * Enter the maze and keep your right hand on the wall until you get to A. Make sure everyone is north of the door and have someone turn the I Valve. This will open up the door that leads to B. Run into the B room and kill the 3 gnolls that will spawn. You will pick up a CREST in here.

    * Pick someone to stay at the I Valve and then everyone else should run to C. Once everyone is at C, tell the person at the I Valve to turn it. This will open up the door that leads to D. Run in and kill the 3 Orcs that spawn. You will pick up a CREST in here. Everyone Move to C and then turn the I Valve.

    * The person with the crests should run down to E and see if one of the two acquired crests fit in the socket. If none fit, that’s fine... we’ll get it later.

    * Everyone move back to A and then turn the I valve. Everyone then place your right-hand on the wall and keep moving until you get to F. Someone needs to stay here at the K valve.

    * Person with the crests should go to G and see if one of the crests fit. Either way, everyone (except person on K valve) should move to J. Turn the K valve and have everyone move to L.

    * Turn the K valve again and then go to M and kill the orcs. You will pick up the 3rd and last CREST in here.

    * Okay, now to make things easy, we want to make sure that we have the crests in the sockets at E and G. If you got lucky and both crests you found earlier fit at E and G, then skip to Step 9. If you did not get really lucky and have the two you found early fit, we are going to have the person with the crests go to either E or G and put in the crests and then come back to L (where everyone else except K person will stay). Everyone move to L and turn the K valve. Person with crests can now run back to the Start area and then enter the maze again on the Right-hand side of where START is on the map. That person can get to G and E now. Put the crest in the correct location and then run back L.

    * The Person on K is done now. That person can either go to G and wait, or they can go to L with the rest of the party.

    * Everyone now goes to O. There are several gnolls up top here that probably need to be killed so the person who stays on the H valve can turn it without being shot.

    * Pick someone to stay on H. Turn the H valve. Everyone (but H turner) moves to P. Turn H valve. Move to Q and put the last crest into the socket.

    * This opens up the three gates at G, E, and Q.

    * The person on the H valve can now make their way back to G. They will have to go to the Start area and go back in on the right-side of the Start label. Alternatively, if you are the leader of the group and the person on the H valve does not know the map, you may have to go back and pick them up and take them to G. This will require turning H valve several times. Make sure you leave the H doors in the state that they are in on the map picture before you head back to G.

    * Now we have to get the I doors in the right state. Everyone but the person who knows the maze the best should park themselves at Q. The person who knows the maze should run to the I Valve from E location and turn the I valve one time. This will put the I doors in the opposite state they are shown on the map and open the door at S.

    * Now you are ready to get the Horn in the middle of the maze at the R location. If you have a rogue, have him/her find and disable the two trap boxes that will appear on the floor. If you don’t have a rogue, either have the best evasion toon or the most HP toon stand on the little platform where the horn is. Put Featherfall on and get a jump spell if someone can do that. EVERYONE else should be at Q and back against the north wall at Q. Grab the horn and immediately JUMP to the Q. The floor is going to fall out once you pick up the horn and the traps will go off if you didn’t disable them. If you did disable them, the floor still falls out and spikes are below. If you are ever down at the bottom of this room with the spikes, DO NOT JUMP up to the ladders. Anytime you jump at the bottom of this floor, you will be hit by the spikes. Not so bad on Normal... can be deadly on Elite.

    * Once you have the horn everyone needs to run to S and then through the Exit. Congratulations.

    * The T location holds a chest. Usually, everyone just waits until the quest is completed and then you get this chest at the end by going to the top of the maze and falling in this little area. Get chest and then finish out. You can get it now, but it’s a pain and requires at least two people who know how to get back to the I Valve to turn it for the others to get in and get the chest. One person runs back to I valve while everyone waits just south of this door. Turn I and let everyone get chest. They move out of room and you turn I again. Then you run back to that location and someone else comes to the I valve and repeats so you can get the chest.Again, much easier to just get this chest once the quest is completed.

That is an awful quest. That description and Map should be a big help assuming I ever set foot in there again.
