Looks like another Turbine game, Lord of the Rings Online, is setting up a similar system to DDO starting this fall. Will probably need to check this out as overall reviews of it as an MMO are good.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot learn a new system... don't you folks know that I am far too dumb for this... BF2 was a little too intelligent for me!!!! I need games that are point and shoot!

I played LOTRO when it first came out. I loved the game alot. The content just didn't come out fast enough. So I finished my toon and then sat there going, now what do i do for 10 months?

I saw this too, but thought I'd keep my mouth shut this time.... hehe

    Meh Free's free inmy book.
Were familiar with Turbines work now.
I kind of dig LoTR story like I dig D&D

Ron liked it so that's cool too - at least we know it's worth it to try.

    Yah I'm in.

I've been looking around for a bout a week now - just to see what's out there.... I can't find anything worth trying......

I don't know if I'm DDO jaded or everything else looks like junk to me.

LOTRO is about the only thing that looks decent - a though too much like DDO to be truly different - but I guess it's Turbine so there bound to look the same.

Here is a good review from IGN that actually like the game.
I signed up for the F2P beta today just to see if I could get in.

    Good luck.

Yeah, other than potentially LOTRO, the only thing upcoming that I'm truly interested in is Civilization V.

    Neverwinter Nights!!!!!!!!

Oh and BF43 for PC would be nice...... Starting to think they decided it just wasn't worth it....

Anyone else get in to the Beta?
  11. #11
    Forgot to even try...

    Don't bother - FAIL
I can only stand about an hour at a time.

    Where to start?
    Slow.. feels like wood.

Attack - Who sees the monster and kills it - gets the EXP all others get squat.

Quest rewards - You choose them before you start not after you complete.

Character generation - You pick class (Ftr, Ranger, Cleric) but the stats ate static you can not choose wisdom, Str, Con.... all set and fixed for class.

Attack - All auto attack, Right ckick to choose "~" to start attack and then just stand around trading blows. If you click left or right mouse when in attack mode player moves and auto attack is broken, a new right click a new ~ is required to get back to attack.

I'm level 8 (in two hours of play) and there are 56 total levels of toon.
Have not quested in a PUG yet (they call them Fellowships) will stay with it for another week or so unless I get totally skull mushed at the game system... but I was really hoping it was DDO game system mechanics in a LOTR setting.... not even close as far as I can tell.

So far I play for 30 min and then go play DDO for 4 hours then back for 30 min and wonder why I left my Bardbarian in DDO to come play this....
I can't ever see myself paying to play LOTRO.

    doh!!

Forgot to add healing s done over time... so just stand around and heal like CoD and Morale plays a big part in your attack - the better you do the better chance you have to hit, them more you get your ass kicked the less chance you have to hit and then if you really flop right before the wipe you get a pop up for retreat.

Clerics or some other character has a morale boost spell or some sort that can boost the party morale but that can only be used once an HOUR!

    ****
    Weapons
I can't figure out how to NOT make my Ranger (had to compare them) NOT change to what the game thinks I should use at any one instance - If I want to keep using my bow in close... the game won't let me... I keep switching to my Pocket Knife.
In fact I don;t have any weapons equipped the first hour in the game it just kept drawing the most suitable to what it thought I wanted from my back pack....
And now even with them on a hot bar.... it still auto switches... can not find a turn off in the settings so I thin kit's a LOTRO thing.

That doesn't sound good at all.

So far I've also been in 3 wilderness areas - your ignored until you provoke the attack and then the only thing to respond is the attacked enemy the rest of his "mob" still shambles around as if nothing is going on.

Like I said - play 30 min then over to DDO for a brain scrub.
  17. #17
Wow, that really surprises me. I read good things about LoTRO..... Sounds boring as heck....

Slow day on the pod cast arena - DDOSOURCE has a long talk about LOTRO which prompted me to go find other LOTRO casts which is moving me to go log on to LOTRO again and give it another whirl.

Is anyone else here thinking of going F2P LOTRO when it hits Sept 10?
Feel like starting a nubs over there together and giving it a month of play - or are we not wanting to go for another MMO to divide your play time?

As it is free, I'm willing to give it a try. Who knows, maybe we'll like it.

    NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost finally understand DDO after a year of play... I am too stupid to do another game!

Lol - there are cool things that I had not experienced yet - like wilderness areas are open not a closed area so our group can be questing and actually see and or help and or request help from other groups out in the same areas..... interesting

"Neighborhoods" - are 6 house areas - if you buy a house you can equip it and it's shed (like equipping an Airship) but your neighbors are constant players - so we could in theory have a GRB neighborhood -

While I did say your attributes re static - all fighters have same stat - all Rangers the same - the way you customize is by getting different equipment to augment your play style and bonuses to your abilities - like DDO but a little more in depth.

So any way - just a thought - they also say the world is "never ending" unlike DDO where there are specific areas for Wilderness and inside quests - LOTRO is 1,000's of Kilometers wide and deep - you can walk it all.

No quest or wilderness boundary in the game.

I'll be on vacation when it comes out - I do not know if I will be able to take my Beta toon to live - if not I'll just roll another.

Sounds interesting. I'd be willing to wait a week or two after release to get going just so that we all start out the same.
  23. #23
Wasn't there something about PermaDeath in LoTRO?

  24. #24
Ok i agree, lets make a permadeath guild in LOTRO, I will go though 1 permadeath character with you all.
  25. #25
I'm in. I loved LOTRO. The storyline is something I think DDO lacked for me.
  26. #26
Damn - your still alive? Hi Ron.
Did you give up on DDO?
  27. #27
Ya I kinda did, it just got boring for me. I think it was partly playing a rogue partly lack of story.
