Plan for the new builds

What is the plan for playing with the new character builds? Is it to try to only play as a group with them, or to level at will?

Are we thinking that we have set times/days to play, during FNF for example?

I would personally like to somehow keep them all at the same level (+-1) and find a night or nights to play together.

What does everyone think? How are we approaching this?
  2. #2
I'm cool with FNF and Sat night only for the new kids (Save maybe for Kit who may need to do week day leveling)

Would be fun to hit all levels and quests as a static group. Fell like we accomplished more!
  3. #3
Well unfortunately I will be working 7 days a week for the next month... So any gaming will probably be very late at night... or groggy in the afternoon.
I got a bit sidetracked by Walts AA build and have been lvling that this week. I'll get back to my rogue soon..

Hella hard living on two worlds.

Talked Joe in to downloading DDO - walking him through Korthos tonight - not sure if he'll stay with it or not - will advise what toon he has and guild him soon as we're on tonight.

Created Mamanatrix a WF FS Lord of Blades to keep him alive while he figures out if he likes the game
  6. #6
Joe = Tourgran = Dwarf Barbarian
  7. #7
Have Joe up to lvl 4 - getting use to the game and while not AHHH I MUST HAVE MY DDO - he is enjoying the game and thinks he will be joining us on FNF with our new U7 group.

Have him lined out with a few goodies to raise his AC and about 300 pots of Cure Critical wounds and Haste etc..... +4 Mythral full plate and a Great sword and ax. So he turtles up nicely, and I stand back with the new FS and keep him alive while he learns the fighting system.

Knocked out most of the Threnal series on Elite last night with a PUG and cut the favor that I need down to around 50. The end is in sight.

By the way, if in need of favor, the full Threnal Series will give 108 favor on Elite. Many of the maps can be run in just a few minutes if you know where you are going.

Also discovered that you don't need to have the quest active to get favor for running it. You won't get your end reward, but you do get the favor. It sometimes (or maybe always) doesn't show up however until you re-log.
  9. #9
Down to about 40 favor needed. I think I've got all the "quick" points I can and am down to slogging through the longer stuff......nearly there though.

Finally, finally got people to play D&DO. Don´t know which server you all play on. We use the "Khyber" world and my player name is.... Peepoo (I know, but I really had to go to the loo when they asked for a name). I play as a thief but we are only lvl 4 to 7 right now. I also have a Ranger that I am leveling up and his name is... Peeroo. Ok, if you see anything with Pee then it's me. 😱
  11. #11
    Pisseer mate.
    (Just had to.....)

Argonnessen is home - I've got three capped toons, Bubba one, Sarge one - we're all starting over at vet status (Level 4) when U7 rolls out - you're welcome to jump over to Argo if you'd like.

Gamers Radio Battalion is the guild name (duh)
  12. #12
Varg! Holy crap people are coming out of the woodwork this week 😀

Like Duck said, we're all on Argo. I wish you could switch servers without starting over that really hinders stuff like this.
  13. #13
down to 26 favor needed now....a SOS run would do a lot to knock that down 😀
  14. #14
    Finally got to 1750!!!!
  15. #15
    [Happy dance]
Now go get a tome you can't use.

    Gratz
  16. #16
Bubba nailed it - Wed Oct - 20 for new content (everyone) and Half bloods for P2P - Fri Oct 22 for F2P if they want to purchase the Half Bloods.

Warm up your dice - heeeeeeere we gooooooooooooo

Grabbed a +2 Charisma tome. Just what my Monk needs:D

also the only one that I hadn't yet used.

Level 4 Human Favored Soul named Poguemot Hoin

still need to add him to the guild as well.

NOW I know where I know that - FRAKING AWESOME Sarge - /MEGA Golf clap!!!!!!

It's kind of a spelling bastardization (should be "Póg mo thóin"), but it will work 😈

Countdown starts now as to when I become "RenamedPo"
  22. #22
Even RenamedPO is kind of funny. Through the humble use of Google I have found corresponding names in other unrecognizable languages also - as German, French and some other popular languages would be spotted too quickly - but Swahili, Yiddish and other Gaelic names may go un noticed....

Funny if we all came up with names like that..... or the names of all the lucky charms.....

Hmmm, maybe I will start something on that server just so I can join in with you.
  24. #24
    Definitely! The more the merrier!
  25. #25
We need to test if we can create a raid group and enter a standard quest - I think the answer is NO but if everyone shows up - all the time, we're running two teams.

Duck, Bubba, Sarge, Atomm, Ron, Joe, Mike, Kit, Varg - cool!

    * * * Update * * *

I've been chatting with someone over on DDOSource forum who has a hell of a story to tell (which I will let them tell if they want here (not my place to tell other people's stories)) but it looks like we're picking up a lvl 4 vet fighter for FNF also who is moving from Ghallanda to us on Argo.

I've asked them to create an account here so every one can say hello before the 22nd. Also passed off Vent info.

  27. #27
    Eggsellent....

I think the likelihood of everyone showing up at the same time is pretty small, but this might mean we can field a full party most days 👍
  28. #28
I am SERIOUSLY looking at the Bard Virtuoso line in place of the Paladin - but can not decide (yet)

The Pal is mega great at beating the baddies down starting at level 14 - up to that level it is an OK character but mainly a fighter with a few lay on hands - as Atomm and Bubba have both witnessed - with the ability if crafted correctly to have a no fail UMD for healing and ressing and wand whipping from other classes (Mass heal, Mass cure serious scrolls (cleric) Stone skin, repair, resurrection, reconstruct wands Wiz/Sorc)

The Bard starts out with healing and party buffing - the virtuoso line adds very high level of Crowd Control with fascinate, at level 12 a Virt II adds the ability to heal 4HP/2seconds over 96 seconds =192 HP mass.... one song and the party goes in to rapid healing mode - like the cleric aura but targeted on the players not the healer - up to level 20 which heals 600HP over 192 seconds.

A virtuoso II can sing that song 15 times at level 12 and 19 / 22 times at level 20....... U7 has really changed the Bard.... and with Sage our only healer.... with a lot of front line DPS-ers .... the help may be beneficial more so than adding another fighter in the mix for him to heal...
UMD for the Bard family is better than a Paladins and all other goodness applies as above ...

Where a Bard starts lacking is the DPS department around level 14 ..... so there is the conundrum - good fighter with great party buffs that come natural, haste, displacement, blur, dimension door, mass cure moderate, Otto's irresistible dance, fascinate - OR kick ass higher level end game damage that comes as a natural ability......

It does not hurt that I pulled those two great Bard swords that are bound to account and not character in the last week or so either which have gotten me on the Bard kick again.....

Open for discussion if anyone wants to chime in (please)

  29. #29
I think you are right in that we have plenty of dps and are weak on the healing/buffing/crowd control side of things. A Bard would help balance that substantially and given that no one is jumping up and down to be a cleric, why not roll one and run with it.
  30. #30
    Bard not Cleric right?
(Yah I know - but just had to ask...) I've just been witnessing the full buff ability if Ian this last week, yah I gimped him by throwing feats in the wrong places and an not planning (yet) to re-spec the feats, still keeping the party hasted (+10% attack speed, +1 to iht/damage), blurred (20% chance of enemy missing a hit) and situational Displacing the fighters (adding 50% chance miss on enemy attack) Even throwing glitterdust on the fight (mass enemy blindness in AoE and movement slows by 40%)

The Warchanter does not have a "great" fascinate but does OK, it adds the 5 DR/- and WCII would be 10 DR/- but I think the higher spell pen of a Virt II with the added party heal song (Just read that there is a "burst" chance that changes the 4hp/2sec to 6 or 8hp/2sec)

Grrrrr.... the reading begins a new...... will keep the Paladin I rolled Codexxx as a back up but will not kill her off and re-roll in U7..... here I go again...... let the character reading begin.
  31. #31
Thinking out loud - but as you've all heard from me before - looking in to repeating crossbows - as a Virt is squishy (slightly) it would be slightly necessary for me to be second tier, but singing and healing every 9 min with nothing to do in between has me thinking that I could back Mike up with ranged combat - specializing in debuffing bows not damage dealing bows.

Paralyzing, Disruption, Greater Disruption, Smiting, Banishing, Cursing..... I like the synergy of buffing, CC and debuffing with weapons.... may be feat starved though.... looking in to it now.
  32. #32
Going to park this here - my very first full build using the planer.
This is more for me to review as I bounce around the builds I read on other forums - but if you see some glaring deficiency PLEASE speak up!

The only that stuck out to me on a quick read-thru is that with charisma being so important, would it make sense to take Human Adaptability early as that helps all of the spells?
  34. #34
I'll go back and see if I can move it around, but I think I took it when I did to make the odd Cha number even again - any earlier it would have made an even CHA odd and have little effect on the SP pool.

Also found that Rapid shot feat effects the shooting speed of the bow... so maybe one of the spell focus feats will go away too.
  35. #35
Sarge - you still thinking about using Khopesh or you back to your own personal long sword inventory?

Ran across this chart from a repeating crossbow user who took the time to "do the numbers". Comparing the Heavy Crossbow and the Heavy Repeating Crossbow.

Dropping the strength to 10 and raising the Dex to 16 for shot accuracy - not planning on being Johnny up front (that's what Bubba and Joe are for) and not being a Ranger... I can not add strength damage to ranged weapons.

Looks like I'm needing to switch THREE feats to really get the most out of the build.
I think they will be the two extra spell pen feats (I have a +3 spell pen item on Durrzo that I can pass across) and the improved critical - as I'm not going for greatest damage (that's what Bubba and Joe are for) but want to be able to debuff.... so all I need for that is to just hit them, the weapon ability will do the rest, improving my crit range.... meh nice but not at the sake of shots on target.

    RS = Rapid Shot
    RR = Rapid Reload

  36. #36
Going to stick with long swords at this point as I don't think I want to use a feat/enhancement to add the specialty weapons.
  37. #37
Intresting, new build cleric? I have always wanted to try it. Would love to join in on Fridays (can't this Friday cause I am going on holiday). Do you need a cleric in the party or something else?

  38. #38
We need a cleric or a second Favored Soul, and (maybe) another caster.

The goal is to keep these characters all at about the same level and play them primarily Fri/Sat nights or when we can get a substantial number of people together on other nights. So missing this Friday isn't too big a deal as some people can't start until after the update on teh 20th.

  39. #39
I think we need another Barbarian - maybe a war forged - that way Sarge can pull his hair out trying to keep 3 or 4 Barbarian alive AND healing the WF a -50% 🤣

    Cleric would be awesome Varg.
  40. #40
I've tried and tried to fit the three pre-requisites to enhance the speed of the repeaters and by the time I'm done adding the feats it will be time to go see Fred and erase them and re-spec for spell penetrations and the extra skill focus to get the best use for the fascinate...... Level 15 that means I'd be at the loss of extend spell, toughness, and Mental toughness..... that's a whole lot of wuss to put up with until level 15.... what good is haste at level 10 if I can only cast it for 45 seconds or good hope for 3 min instead of 24 min.....

So I take Feat Repeating Heavy Cross bow at lvl 3 and call it good and keep specing for the best spell penetration and performance skills I can achieve and see how it works for us.

Getting rid of one feat - repeater - is also A LOT cheaper then 3.
  41. #41
I guess that simplifies things now doesn't it 😀
  42. #42
yall do remember I'm making a cleric right =p. Just not gonna be around much till november. Then I get my life back
  43. #43
Cool - mores the better! I can always switch up between Virtuoso=Healing, Spell Singer=Spell Point/Mana buffer/restorer or Warchanter=DPS/AC/Damage buffer

So if we get enough heals I can easily change prestige for more of something else....
  44. #44
I had forgotten that Ron 😀
  45. #45
So - level 10 is my typical - do you like it and keep it or trash it and start over point.
We're all around that level now - you like what you picked?

Ehtel is OK - I would NOT recommend a Virt Bard for someone not truly in to support class - I'd say a Warchanter is far superior in all areas of the class. Would I roll another Virt - no. I might even stop playing her once Bubba and Joe get to 10 and just switch to Ian who hits A LOT harder and has better Bard buffs. But there is another Virt at level 12 which may make a difference and at 12 she really gets a boost to her CC spell penetration and gets the song of Capering - dancing by song and not spell.

Codexxx - Paladin level 10 - I can see why both Atomm and Bubba are lukewarm on Paladins, I know at lvl 14 they start to shine - and am holding judgment until then, she is a though class and survives very well with the Lay on Hands a crucial part of the class - it's saved Joe or I many times in fights.

But you HAVE TO keep the clickies hot and rotating or the DPS just isn't there - (yet?)

I play these classes while still running Dduck and crew through shrouds getting ever closer to the decision to TR one of them (Dduck) - who is going to be Green Steeled to the max - at present I Have enough to make 2 Heavy Earth Grab picks, a Earth Grab longbow and two wearable items yet to be decided on.

So I think Bubba loves his Barb - Sarge, you like your FS?
  46. #46
Duck, at 12/2 on Atomm, I can do the clicky thing to keep rotations up and I'll hit for 90-100 at the onset of the final 2 clicks. I'm not very good at watching the timers, so I'm not sure if I could do better. I have managed to hit 500+ point hits a few times. I wish it was more often and more consistent. However, as you said, 14 is the sweet spot with Zeal and Holy Sword. I'd like to see it through to to 16 just to see how a 14 Paladin feels.

At level 4, my mage runs out of spell points quicker than anything. I see now why people recommended a 14 Str just so you could actually hit stuff.
  47. #47
Yah I think the Paladin clickies are WORSE than the Monk clickies as with a Monk you CAN do damage with speed or / and strength and the appropriate hand wraps - the Paladin will have extra damage IF they have the correct sword(s) but the cycle of and frequency of clickies NEEDS to be manage to DO any appreciable damage.

Holy Sword is a better damage item that allows a level 14 Paladin get a REAL GOOD boss beater with out all the Shroud runs and crafting - most Paladins agree that there is no need to craft a Green Steel sword (level 16 in all reality) as Holy is better all around - but still need those damn clickie dancing to make it sing.

I'll keep her because it's not killing me to play her - and she's in Joes range to help him level plus I just picked up a pair of +5 Holy burst scimitars of Pure Good and need to give them a walk in the park to see how well they work - if well enough I have 2 last sets of Icy Burst when Risia comes back.
  48. #48
I feel like I'm still getting used to the FS, especially the healing aspects. I'm hitting for ok damage levels with the long Swords (twenties and thirties mostly), and the crowd control from the soundburst spell and damage of the holy smite spell are proving really useful to make up for the middling physical damage. Holy Smite with empower and Maximize on has hit for over 100 points and the blinding is a nice side effect 😈 Soloing a level 6 map last night I dropped a half dozen wights in a circle around me without touching them. It was a big help.

I start to see my attack bonus grow pretty quickly at level 10 and I'm getting Level 5 spells. Now that I have Mass heal light wounds, working with larger parties will be a bit easier too.
I'm also up over 1000 spell points with my Power IX dagger equipped.
  49. #49
Playing around with Dduck - running Devil Battlefield quests solo and got to thinking about healing amplification other than pocket clerics (level 20 Clerics ARE good) so hit the AH and came across the idea of dual wielding Bodyfeeding Long swords (cheaper than Scimitars for the experiment) and a Lifeshield Bow

Bodyfeeding gives +15 HP return to you (on a critical hit on the opponent) and is available on hand held weapons.
Lifeshield is on thrown/ranged weapons and is a 10% +15 HP on each hit that they land on you.
Each effect lasts for 1 min.

Now if your down HP they do NOT replenish you back to 100% health (part of what I wanted to try) but with improved critical and dual wielding I seem to never run out of +15 HP bonus, and all hits you take come off the added Bodyfeeding/Lifeshield HP first.

I would say stay away from the Lifeshield as you need to keep the bow in your hand for it to proc the 10% chance - and as no one else is a Ranger and not "feated' up" for ranged, it just won't be worth it to you all. But the Bodyfeeding is quite good.

So, why did I put it in the new build thread when Dduck is using them? Bodyfeeding and Lifeshield start at level 8 - there CHEAP at 2 or 5K plat for them as no one appears to want them, and free healing while soloing or w/ pocket cleric is actually quite good.
  50. #50
Good find! I need to look and see if there are any bodyfeeding daggers as it would be nice to run with that as an off-hand weapon as I don't have whatever the feat is that I need to run with two long swords.

I raided my Ranger's cache of weapons last night and came away with a paralyzing LS, shocking (burst maybe) of slowburst LS, a something of elemental bane LS, and one other I can't remember off the top of my head. I also have a vorpal LS of righteousness waiting at level 12.

It means I need to rethink my weapon combos, but it should help a lot in crowd control and destruction. I have entirely too many weapons right now and I need to see which ones I can put back in the bank

  51. #51
I feel your pain on too many weapons, but its also NICE to have too many to chose from.
  52. #52
I remember now that "something" of elemental bane LS was "Cursespewing"

If I could find superior devotion IV or so item and a Spell Penetration item (ring/necklace or helmet would be best) that would be a big help as I could ditch a few otherwise not great weapons for something more destructive.

In addition to a weapons revamp, I need to address my gear and items. I seem to have several things that are duplicated and not providing me with any help whatsoever.
  53. #53
I picked up a +2 Vorpal Greataxe at auction for 6k plat!!!! Wooooohoooooo "Let the bodies hit the floor!!!"
  54. #54
BTW healing is for those sally asses who don't kill everything with one hit!!!
  55. #55

Was hanging out with the AOK guys for a while with Durrzo while Phreshphrute was going through one of his TR's and Afrobot opens a trade window in the middle of the boss fight on Running with Devils and offers me a +5 Metaline superior potency VII Scimitar and a +4 Greater spell penetration VIII Scimitar of Pure good (Adds +3 to spell penetration of offensive spells) - both for BASE PRICE as a Thanks for keeping us alive - we were on our 12 or so run on Hard of Devils and about to start running it on Elite - We let Phresh complete the quest (AL LA Bubba on Ghosts... BASTARD!) while we did business.

Haven't let them out of my sight since - and that's how the BB's hit so hard Max, Emp, Sup Pot.

Sarge - don't look for a Devotion item - get a POTENCY item - Devotion only amps your HEALING - POTENCY amps EVERYTHING. (including healing) AND stacks with Maximize and Empower!
  56. #56
And keep this in mind (although level 18) Durrzo this necklace -
And as a FS the 150 SP becomes 300

But we can run it when you get there....

  57. #57
    Potency it is then.
  58. #58
In the vein of testing, as you may recall Dduck in sin the process of crafting Green Steel Eaqrth Grab Longbow and 2 Earth Grab Heavy Picks as Picks have the highest crit multiplier in the game.

So to test the earth grab which is auto critical when held is the same as Ian's Hold Monster - which auto crits when held, I bought him a Wounding of Pure good and a Holy burst of Righteousness - ran around hold monster'ing and crit picking them, a weapon that is rated from 16-36 x4 on crit hit for 265 when auto crit hold monster - proves my Dual GS Earth Grab picks or Dduck.

  59. #59
    Does potency work with Mages?

  60. #60
Yes all spells but not wands or scrolls - also Mages and Soecs can put Enhancement Points in to Energy Manipulation and Lineage lines to boost damage and % chance to critical and then boost critical damage, which WILL stack with potency items also - (also comes in wands and rods for finger wigglers)

Dec 2010 last post in this thread... wow has it been that long?

Messing around with the old crack again - deleted my WF Sorc - Just can't get in to a straight finger wiggler.

Started a 11 Ranger/3 Rogue/6 Fighter to be as solo-able for my style as possible.

SARGE - DDO message related to guild in battalion area for you.
  62. #62
Dcuk, if you are in game, why don't you grab the guild leadership?
  63. #63
It looks like I can take it - apparently they added controls for that - should the leader never name a second.
  64. #64
Are you playing the Free Version?
  65. #65
When Joe and I were playing a few (years) ago I bought some DDO points and bought some optional areas.

Now that I'm back messing around again - I'm thinking of buying some more areas for low level - Shan-Ta-Kor and Tangleroot just to get the lower level EXP ....

But yes essentially I am staying F2P with limited purchasing of areas I really like or that give phenominal EXP for the DDO point cost.

Plus there is so many new things to see and do - figure I'd see what's new.
Keeping in mind Star Trek Online is going Free to play on January 17 2012 - with NO zones closed to F2P - unlike DDO - so I'm already downloaded and installed STO waiting for the 17th to see which F2P game gets my time.

But for now..... DDO is like a favorite pair of boots.
  66. #66
Cool. I may load it back up just to take a look around. I'd love to see how it plays with the new monitor and if I get sick or not.

A buddy at work a few years ago played STO. He said it was an awesome game with nothing to do. I get the impression that it was too light on content to begin with. If it shows any promise, let us know. We always need new crack.

  67. #67
Its heroine - that's all there is to it for me. I should have NEVER gone looking for a diversion from World of Tanks.
You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.

One run around 3BC - one taste of Hoarse - and all hope is lost.

Pray for me. I need a hug.

    DAMN YOU DUCKY DAMN YOU!!!
  69. #69
    ....and that makes 3.......
    (Possibly 4, 5 and 6...... do I hear 7?)

The ground combat has really been worked over (for the MUCH better according to STOked podcast) and is up to the point of actually working good and is OK to play.

Will be a fun diversion, would be willing to pass over DDO to STO as I know nothing about the areas - so instead of playing the usual over again with a new class (DDO) - experiencing a whole new game.....

    Looking forward to it.

  70. #70
I'm a big fan of podcasts of the games I'm playing - been listening to STOked for about three weeks now - getting info on how to play - what means what in game - etc.

There were two dudes doing the 'cast and about Nov time one of them left the 'cast for a full time dev job at cryptic studios - the other one kept on and has been doing a good job - and then episode 109 (the latest) he comes on and before the show starts and just says -

    I'm sick of this shit.
I'm sick of cryptic screwing the fans.
I'm sick of the lack of content.
I'm sick of sitting here every Saturday and trying to be a fan boy for a game that's circling the drain.

In the following 'cast your going to hear us talking about next weeks 'cast, we're asking you questions for listener feed back like always.

Well - basically I don't care - as there will be no tomorrow!
    Now on with the show.

He said he may pick it up - but don't hold your breath.

WOW! Makes me really look forward to it - in the same way I look forward to cold and flu season.
Still going to try it out - hell it's F2P and I have it installed.

    Why not?

    Yah I'm geek.

Interesting. Do I need to start an MMO forum and move the DDO stuff to it?

I think Cryptic is taking the easy way out by letting the users create content. There has to be a good balance.
  73. #73
The underlying cry for last year and the start of this new year is for Cryptic to turn the really well made user content in to officially licensed - DLC from Cryptic - apparently that's what the kids want but cryptic refuses to convert it to real content.

    bah

MAMA am I glad I put my Bard Virt build here on the forum, the last HD fail I had wiped out my build and did not have a back up - shame shame shame on me - and Ethel just leveled to 12 which is Virt level 2 ...... what I've been playing her for since the thought crossed about a support bard.....

    Back in business.

I've forgotten how intense a healer can be as it has been more than a year since I've run a heal spec toon.

Ran two full chains - 4 maps each (3 normal and boss map) one level 16 one 17 on Elite with a full group (mostly AoK clan with one from zerg zerg - so.... speed run was the word of the day)

I Can't believe I was able to solo heal them and only die once - made some seriously clutch heals - lost a few but was able to res them and get them back in to the fray ASAP.....

I think I lost a pond from the adrenaline rush.

    Good stuff.
  83. #84
cool. I'm glad I never built a full-blown healer. I'm already dreading shroud runs with my FS and I'm not even at level yet to do it. Of course given the amount I'm playing, it will take me a year to get to the point of doing a shroud run anyhow....
  84. #85
Shroud is considered a level 16 raid - there is now a higher level called (something something) of the Artificer which is a level 19 + raid / crafting which will take you to level 25 now.

The items you create are basically two or three Green Steel items (they have same properties ad GS) mashed in to a single item now.

I have purchased the package but have yet to try out the modules or raid yet.

    It is called alchemical crafting.
    http://ddowiki.com/page/Alchemical_Crafting

Interesting thing is that both GS and Alchem items are usable at level 12 - so any TR charecter may need to make them originally at level 19 can be used by a level 12 once completed.
  85. #86
Killed off Ethel, 2 bards in the barn and only one is worth the time to play.
Replaced her with a human Wiz - working toward Pale Master for solo'ing goodness.

    Level 4 sucks
