Home Entertainment Group announced today the acquisition of Turbine, Inc., the largest privately-held online gaming studio in North America, further strengthening Warner Bros.’ position as one of the industry’s fastest growing, full-scale games publishers.

    So from what I gather - WB has all rights to Lord of the Rings except online gaming, by buying Turbine then now have exclusive rights to LOtR and DDO and Ashrons Call (another Turbine game) just happen to come with the deal.

    WB is owned by Time Warner - who also did a stellar job with AOL after its accusation.

    In my experience, it rarely a good thing when a game developer gets bought out by one of the "big boys" (cough, DICE, cough). Maybe they'll be left alone to develop the game though....

    Already been jokes about a Lego Star wars MMO and a Babalon 5 MMO to counter the Star Trek MMO.

    There is a lego mmo in the works that is due to be released anytime now.

    I believe Turbine can do the LoTR novels, but not the movies. Doesn't someone else own the rights to the movies and games based on the movies?

    I'm not to worried about this. Since it's a movie company buying a game company, I can see them being a bit more hands off just so they don't mess it up.
