Well there is hope

Doing a little digging - and reading all the good bye Turbine threads.
(I suggest you read first post in this thread - he hits it really well http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=253660 )

It looks like Atari is releasing Never Winter Nights based in the Forgotten Realms rule set.
That is where I use to love playing pen and paper D&D.

One of the hurdles has passed as Turbine and Atari have settled differences via court battles - but Ataris parent company are THE Rat Bastards them selves EA Games.
Who may pose their own hurdles on the development......

From what I gather it's set for a Fall 2010 release...... hmmm I bet LoTR Free to play will be in same time frame..... coincidence?

Anyways - when DDO falls flat - maybe we'll have a fantasy MMO that's not WOW for the winter months.

There are definitely options out there. Guild Wars is another one that looks somewhat interesting although it veers far away from traditional D&D.

I think even if we don't leave the game completely, we may affect some change by voting with our wallets.

Let me just say that NWN is the reason I play games online. And not the Bioware games, which I have purchased multiple times, yet barely played due to a lack of time. Hey, what can I say, Bioware rocks and I wanted to send them my money somehow.

In 1996, I started playing NWN on Aol. I helped start a guild in 96 and built my first webpage in 96. If it wasnt for that game, I wouldn't be who I am today and where I am today. You see, I was a driver for DHL and one of our guild members was an engineer for an ISP. Talking to him one night, I mentioned how I would love to do what he did. He convinced me to apply for our local ISP, even though I had little actual experience outside of being a geek who loved computers. So I did and I got the job. Until that job, I hadn't a clue what I was going to do with my life and I was 26. That job also paid for 50% of my last two years of college. It gave me the direction that I am still following today. Hell, Gamers Radio was started because of all of that. It was always intended to be about MMO's and CRPG's, but Battlefield 42 sidetracked all that. A even littler known fact. FNF was actually started when Racer would come over to my house to play Baldur's Gate 2. The demo for BF42 completely sidetracked us. We finished the main game Baldurs Gate 2 game, but not the expansion. Oh and I love forgotten realms.

Did I mention my next tattoo is going to be the NWN logo? I'm dead serious.

So, with that kind of emotional attachment to a game, you can bet I will be there with frickin bells on!

My daughter and I played the whole series of Baldurr's Gate games.
So playing NWN in a MMO - sweet!

Yea, well about that first tattoo. I was young and it was late, ahem..... Let's just say it's not a tramp stamp.... hehe

Damn it! Now I am going to have to get my CCNP done asap because I want to be able to play NWN the second it comes out.

BTW, the guild I helped found is still around after all these years. Last I saw of them, they were playing Dark Age of Camelot. One of my old guildies actually pops up on here from time to time.
