Doc I know you've played with both - which do you like better?
May end up retiring one or both of my 'play' characters in place of a mega-toon multi-class build.
Oh geez. . .I dunno. Both have something going for them. The wizard has a shit-ton of spells available, the sorcerer has a shit-ton of mana. I think it's easier to solo with the sorcerer early on, and later he can lay down the blast in a big way. Playing the sorcerer, though, was painful in that you really get VERY FEW SPELLS. I think I have 4 spells learned since going up to level 3, and they're all 1st level spells.
Your Magi staff would give a sorcerer more mana than it would give a wizard - up to 200 spell-points instead of the 100 it gives your cleric (and a wizard).
You know all this though. Here's what I think about each class:
Sorcerer:
- Easier to solo early on.
- Brings the blast in a big way. Mana is NICE.
- FEW spells learned = less versatile.
- Few spells learned = less decisions to make each mission.
- Wands, scrolls, and potions become more important since you have few spells.
Wizard:
- A bit harder to solo early on.
- Can bring the blast, but can't spam it as much. Try to group up 2 or 3 enemy for one spell. There's a reason why firewall is my favorite spell.
- Can learn every arcane spell in the game, and I mostly have (ones at my level and below) = ultimate in versatility.
- Lots of spell slots. Dunno what you're going to face on a quest? You can learn a bunch of spells you might not need, never use 'em, and still have plenty of general-purpose spells handy.
- Quite a bit more to keep track of, and you'll find yourself changing spells in-between missions, or even at a rest shrine. More to do, but again, more versatile.
- Wands are my last-ditch backup, not a regular-use thing. I carry no enhancement potions, just Cure Moderates and Mnemonic potions, and I think I have a cure blindness.
The wizard has more to think about and can do more. From the way you play the Vicodiin character, I think a Wizard is far more your style. The Sorcerer is more a grab & go character, except when you have to think about your action points when you level.
