2142 (Best)Buyer beware

Ok here's some cheap $hI^ from BestBuy.

On there shelves is this box on the left with the Red Stripe:

They say it's a Pre-Order for 2142 for $10.00 and in the features section it states

1) It's not a pre-oreder but all the crap you get if you spend the $50.00 to pre-order less the $40.00 game.
2) It's not a special up grade or BestBuy only unlock but a skin for a standard weapon you get as a regular player.

Buyer beware.

You want the preorder with the USB offer. It has the extra rank.

Also, the skin was offered by EA for preordering it via the download service. Sounds like they extended the offer to Best Buy.

Sept 13 is the next date for beta release, don't know if the key I have allows me to just get the new beta and go or if I'll have to re apply for a new key.

But as things are now. I don't think I'll be an early adopter, but who knows may get it just cause. But it deffinatley is the BF2 engine with nothing new other than skins.

The air vehicles drive like copters the ground vehicles drive like tanks apc's and jeeps. They just look different.

It comes with the free USB Dog tag. to tell the truth it is so so. I would have liked a cool metal REAL Dog Tag instead. I have a few 4GB USB drives to 64MB is lame for me 😉

But everything you get in the BB box is what you get in the special pre-order box also, just minus the game.

Same card for the weapon.
Same dog tag.

Voucher is funny to me as I already own all 3 products listed 😉

So I understand that you get the special skinned gun and that is fine, lame but fine, is there an actual game unlock that goes along with it. That is one and you get two for the veterans program so starting with 3 is better than nothing at all.

I am NOT happy with EA's ranking points. I will probably only see half the unlocks if I am lucky.

Maybe I will keep it for fun. may be able to sell the Dog tag on Ebay or something later on for more than the $10.

Now if I can get he game for $40 I will be all set. 😉

If I had to put a price on a re-skinned BF2 I don't think I'd pay more than $15.00 - $18.00 for this game.

You know, the step from 1942 to BF2 was huge. Everything was new. How it played - ranks - unlocks.
What's 2142 have that BF2 doesn't?
Titan mode is not that much different than pushing your opponent off the map by capturing all the flags, it just has a vertical element that you can not really control. It's just another flag in the series of pushing them in to the ocean.

This would have been a great mod for BF2.

Yes I have been playing it. I have 3 unlocks/ranks as of now.

I won’t argue that it is not REALLY different but I never expected it to be. It is different enough for me to like it. I guess I am very weird.

I hate EA and the bugs and lame user support as much as anyone here believe me. I just really try to get over as much as I can because I love the damn game so much. I am not a true gamer like some people who play everything. Unless it is FPS game I am not usually into it.. These are the only ones I really liked ever since DOOM.

I did not get into BF1942 as much until the DC mod. WOW that was many many hours of fun. BF2 with the way it is set up with squads and orders etc.. really appeals to me. I get an immersion feel to it looking out over a cliff and seeing WAYYY off in the distance a helo fight or arty strike. Just seems cool.

BF2142 is basically an upgrade, it is all I expected. A major BF2 mod really.
Is it “worth” $50? Well to be honest yes. Sorry but I look at it different I guess.

I go to a movie and spend $8 just for 2 hours of entertainment or spend $4 for a cup of coffee sometimes, $50 for literally hundreds of hours of fun is not really asking too much. It is not subscription based so no monthly fees etc…. I really do get my moneys worth out of these games.

I spend a lot more for a LOT less in life.

Hell I spend $40 for two winter windshield wipers for my SUV and that is not nearly as much fun 😉


As for BF2142, so far I really like it a lot. Much more than I though I would!

I'm too am a slave to BF2 and EA. I'm just not feeling it like do fro BF2.

We need to get together some time (soon) and squad up, alot of people say it's more of a team work based game than 2 but so far I'm still a lone wolf in a squad running around killing people.

Team work (even 2) may help it for me. If nothing else maybe Friday night we can jam for an hour before getting on the 2?

Your also right when you break down the $50.00 over time and enjoyment. I just wish it was a $25.00 mod not a $50.00 game with nothing new.

Well played for 2 hours on a map
(The test maps have no tickets and no time limit)

Some how I ended up with 2 more ranks and 2 more unlocks. Was going to try 1 new item in each class but realized I like the Engineer (the right side class engy) the best so I took the last 2 upgrades there.

Last upgrade is a new weapon. Will play more so I can see what it's like to get the new weapon upgrade.
