CAN YOU COME UP WITH A WAY TO KEEP TRACK OF ELUSIVE SUBMARINES THAT HAS NEVER BEEN THOUGHT OF BEFORE?

CAN YOU OUTSMART AN ENEMY SUBMARINE COMMANDER AND KEEP HIM FROM ESCAPING INTO THE DEEP?

DOWNLOAD AND PLAY THE ACTUV TACTICS SIMULATOR AND SUBMIT YOUR RESULTS TO DARPA TO HELP DEVELOP THE FUTURE OF ANTI-SUBMARINE WARFARE.

Do you want to help Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop new anti-submarine tactics? Well, then you don’t necessarily need a degree in underwater battle-conflict, and instead you can play ACTUV Tactics Simulator. DARPA explain: “This software has been written to simulate actual evasion techniques used by submarines, challenging each player to track them successfully… As you complete each scenario in the simulation, you may submit your tracking tactics to DARPA for analysis. DARPA will select the best tactics and build them into the ACTUV prototype.”

It’s a fully fledged simulator by the looks of it, with a big old single player campaign and even a multiplayer set up for submarine battles. Worth a look if you like a bit of frightening realism. Free, obviously. And you also get to help the US military fight the scourge of the waterways: rogue cannibal submarines.

(Yah caps - it was a cut and paste job - get over it)
Looks like it is the ULTIMATE sim as your data on a good "game" can be sent to DARPA and the U.S. Navy for analysis.

I find it interesting that they are reaching out to the civilian gamers to see how the unorthodox would track subs.

Isn't that the premise of about 13,000 - 1980's teen movies? Crack the word search that was secreted in to a public game book to break the encryption code of the pentagons main frame blah blah blah......

None the less, I may grab it (free - my kind of game) I like sims, I like Sub Warfare

Darpa has done a handful of croud sourcing type events in the recent past. It's interesting to try to determine what the real purposes are for some of these 'events', I think there may be more than meets the eye (not in a crazy conspiracy theory type, just if they are studying who the participants are and why they are involved... etc).

Last one I remember was this. https://networkchallenge.darpa.mil/Default.aspx
Which I was amazed at how quickly this team found the 10 balloons.

    Those wacky MIT kids.
With out a doubt DARPA has other intentions/motives for the sub sim - but ..... if its fun.....

Also no doubt Americas Army uses the server data to see how N00Bs would fight "IRL" and adjust training accordingly.

I'm not even thinking military applications. I would imagine you can pick out some interesting psychological information. I agree if its fun, hey all the more reason to be a willing participant.

I think it's a great idea to do something like this. I'd love to be able to tap into a few hundred thousand people and run ideas past them. I could make millions I tell ya!
