    Hey GRB-

Sarge responded to a post I made on totalbf2 and suggested I swing by and check you guys out.

I'm a 34 year old web application engineer, with a wife and 3 kids. I'm also a pretty avid gamer (I've been at it since pong :-) I've played a lot of FPS's, and have a special affinity for the tactical variety (AA, GR, R6, BF42, BFV, BFDC, BF2).

I'm looking to team up with a layed back group of guys that enjoy getting together and kicking some butt through teamwork, and more imporantly have fun.

I also have a side-kick. My son plays with me once in awhile. His skills have already surpassed mine. Nothing like getting pwned by a 10 year old for a quick dose of humility :-)

So hopefully, I be seeing you all on the battlefield soon.

Hey Shank! Welcome to our little corner of the world. We will probably get together on TeamSpeak tomorrow night to play our Friday Night Fights. You are welcome to join us.

Just keep in mind, while we are not in the Eddie Murphy "Raw" category on language, we do say a few choice words now and then on TeamSpeak. In game, we are much, much more civilized. :-) Well, everyone except Duck and he doesn't have the game yet, so you are safe for a week or two.....

Kind of off topic, what languages, applications do you use for work? We have several techies on board and it always makes life more interesting....

Thanks for stopping by! From what you have said, and what I know about these jokers it would seem like a good fit. Would love to have you jump in TS with us tomorrow so swing by if you can. That is usually the extent of any "recruiting" that we do 🙂 and gives you a chance to talk to us as well.

Now that my kids are getting old enough to repeat what I say I am getting much better about muttering under my breath 🙂 , that and I learned to not press the "talk" button when I do it.

I think I am the odd man out here in that I don't directly have a job in tech. On the other hand, my job does allow me to harrass Bubba on a day-to-day basis, except when he is "sick" like today. Nice fishing day there Bubba?

I'll look for you guys on friday.

I work for macromedia (soon to be Adobe), and for the last couple of years, I've been building rich clients for enterprise business apps. Most of what I do now is done in ActionScript 2, and mxml ( Flex ). I also dabble a little on the server side, with coldfusion, flashcomm, mysql, and some java. I've been thinking about getting involved in the modding community and may take up Python next.

I have a spare machine lying around and a pretty good net connectoin ( 10mb fiber) so I plan on getting a BF server up and running soon. I was running a demo server, but got "blacklisted" for over-riding the time limit :-p so I shut it down. Gotta love EA. I would love to use it to test out some mods or custom maps. So far, most of my BF2 hours have been on ranked servers, but once I get a few weapons unlocked or a great mod comes up, I don't plan on supporting the EA cash cow.

We are big fans of custom maps and mods here. We have a few guys that are genuinely superior mappers, and you may have played some GRB custom maps in BF42 or BFV. We are also involved at various levels in the Battlegroup 2, and BF Conversion mods. Couple of guys also do work for the Battlefield Apocolypse as well.

I also plan to stop playing on the Ranked servers at some point. I just got my first unlock and need to decide how much time I want to spend trying to get the second. 10k points is pretty far from 1k 🙁 I'll need to ride a lot of shotgun with Everclear to get there anytime soon 🙂

    Hey shank, welcome to |GRB|

a 34 year old web application engineer, with a wife and 3 kids

Makes you middlin' and baldin' liuke the rest of us... good.

I'm looking to team up with a layed back group of guys that enjoy getting together and kicking some butt through teamwork, and more imporantly have fun.

    Welcome home.

    I also have a side-kick. My son...Nothing like getting pwned by a 10 year old .....

We have Bubba, so your son will have an intellectual equal here.
No worries about him here, but as Atomm said sometimes it can get hairy on TS.... I think I'm a real culprit here.

    Atomm
I'm sooooooo TKing you BEFORE Bubba when I pick it up....

    Sarge
Yeah Sarge go out and whores himself, All I get is a picture of him in torn fishnets and and something slutty but tasteful.

but got "blacklisted" for over-riding the time limit :-p

Hooo Raaaah My kind of server manager!

Gotta love EA.... I don't plan on supporting the EA cash cow.

Let me simplify that for ya'
Call em what they really are.
    Rat bastards!

Well now that I have impressed the hell out of you with my cut and paste ability, I just know you'll want to stick around. Sort of like looking at an accident, it's ugly and sad that it happened. But you just gotta see what happened.
Same for us, were just one more gaming accident waiting to happen, and when it does we all laugh like little school girls and go get another beer.

Hope to "see" ya a round.

    Duck forgot our Slogan.

    World Domination Through Laziness.... :-)

That's pretty impressive stuff you do. I tried my hand at Flash 2, didn't get and gave up.

I see a lot of potential to do some cool things with python and the BF2 server. I really wanted to figure out how to capture the stats and port them to a MySQL database to show on our website. We had that with BF42 and the guys really seemed to love it.

I have the code to turn on the stats, but I am not sure if it will get us delisted, so I've set on it. I'd love to see someone create a system to link unofficial server stats and bypass EA. :-)

Hope you drop by tomorrow night. It's always good fun.

You don't happen to be in an E. Mass office do you? We might have some mutual friends.

In any case as you have learned, Duck, well he's ummmm ... Special.

Many of us are computer dorks of some extent. I am working on python myself. oo and Sarge, I wish it was fishing, but I won't break the new guy in on my gastro-intestinal details.

Welcome to our demented world, hope to see you on FNF tommorrow.

I'm not located in Boston office, but I know a couple of people there. I "technically" work out of the office in San Francisco. I now live in Sacramento and work from home most of the time. I'm only actually in the office a few days a month.

And Sarge, thanks for sparing me from the pictures of you in the Fredricks of Hollywood Collection :-)

I usually save those until you've been around a while. Don't want to immediately scare everyone off 😉

I have some friends that live in Folsom and I used to spend a couple of days a month in Sacto at CALTRANS and CARB when I lived out in CA. My brother-in-law also lived in Shingle Springs for a couple of years as well. We were down in Mariposa near Yosemite. The drive was to Sacramento was a pain, but I really liked the downtown area.

One way or another we will know someone you do!! Can you guess who the 2 New Englanders in this thread are. My favorite Saturday Night Live Sketch was about New Englanders giving directions to any place in New England, because all good New Englanders know where everything is.

Looks like your son's skills have surpassed mine as well. 🙂 Some good games last night, just happy that your son was on our side so we didn't have the embarrassment of him taking us out repeatedly. I especially appreciated his offer to follow me around as my bodyguard while my controls weren't working 🙂
