We are debating on getting the little ones a console for Christmas.
I'd love to get a Wii, but I don't think we want to spend that much if we can help it and will likely be looking at getting them a used PS2 or something (They won't know the difference or care that it's used).
Anyone have any advice as to what to look for or look out for?
BTW Sarge I also vote you get them a WII, then invite over 'uncle bubba' to help the kids play....

Btw, I also thought it was very hard to find a Wii in the USA. In the UK it is impossible, but in other parts of Europe its no problem so far.

Apparently Atomm isn't good at math! Anyone can see that due to market variables and poor dollar to euro conversions that the wii would cost exactly 1 million, 99 thousand and 6 cents!!
for the best value it would be Wii all the way. The PS2 is still getting a few new games out for it but the majority of the PS2 market was aimed at high school-college and up, namely adult themed that barely made the ESRB cut. Namely not suitable for much family play or even pick up and play games, besides the football and even then you have had to play it before to understand.
The Wii however, you can get three games (Wii Sports(or)Play[whichever it comes with], Big Brain Academy, EA Playground) for and be set for some time just out of the sheer enjoyment factor even if they are meant for younger kids, they are actually fun to play. Then add to that you get to play the entire GameCube library with the Wii it ends up being a good deal. They are available and do what you can to find the $250 alone so you can by your own accessories as needed, and then get Bubba to buy his own controller and leave it at the house (or two controllers so he feels like he can take one home)
Target has the Wii normally and if not them Fry's has been getting in shipments, though may be different in your part of the world.
Yah, I'd have to echo the sediments. I've heard nothing but praise for the Wii's. Google it up and mail order it. Plenty of time before Christmas for that.
Besides you could get Bubba to babysit for free a few times as a bonus.
Slashdot had an article that said the Wii was nowhere to be found. Apparently, it's one of the hot ticket items this Christmas. I've been watching them go for $450 on ebay. If you find any, buy them and put them on Ebay.
I think we have decided to go with a Wii but are going to wait until the spring to get one and use my birthday as an excuse to get something for the kids 😉 . Hopefully there will be more available by that point and it won't be such a struggle to find them outside of inflated prices on e-bay.
Did they ever fix that strap issue? I know it would break or come undone while playing...hence...joystick goes flying into plasma...hello new $2000 plasma!
