BF 42 Send off

    This was emailed to me from the [OSF] Forums for anyone interested.

    For anyone interested, this week will be the last hurrah for our Battlefield 1942 server. We will be doing our best to populate our server Wednesday through Saturday (March 28-31) in the evening (and during the day for whomever is interested in getting it started) including the Thursday community night. This will be the final opportunity to play on our BF1942 server. The server will stay up for one week after the last hurrah to show any signs of life, but if not, it will be shut down permanently.

    The server is running in pure mode, so if you have trouble connecting, you may want to reinstall the game from scratch and apply the 1.6 patch and 1.61 update.

    Too bad. I just found a big box of cd's in storage. I now have the disks for 1942 plus expansions. However all my patch disks seem to be way behind, like only 1.5 at best.

    Does 1.6 patch allow you to run without the cd in? Also looks like I have to download DCF again. I'm starting to wonder if its worth it again, but I have the important parts just in case.


    I even found my HL2 Disk 1! Amazing how easy you can lose stuff when you move and are careless about how you pack 🙂


    Oh, also btw, would there be any probs sharing the ser's for 1942. Heck its real old, and not ranked, etc.
    I also have the rome and weapons numbers.

    It's not a problem sharing serial numbers with 42 however you won't be able to play online at the same time.

    For a while I borrowed a friends copy to use and would get a "This key is in use" error whenever he was online.

    Unless you just REALLY want to play 1942 I would not bother man. Especially with the new DC mod coming out for BF2. I think more people will jump on that now.

    I just reinstalled it last night.. wow, its quite nice, a breath of fresh air. However upon installing DCF, it just crashes to desktop.

    BF and EA, one gotdang winning combination!

    I am all for EA bashing, but you can't pin this one on them..... Seriously, you install a mod and it starts crashing? I'd point the finger to the mod.....

    True enough, but again, its an age old problem I have with EA's programming. Mods are just not that hard to install on other platforms such as HL or UT. This is so damn frustrating. With EA, it has to be done in the exact sequence, arrgghhh!

    [OSF] was a great server. iCe also had good contact with members of [OSF]. Now some of us are playing Bf1942 again, just for a change of action, and its sad to see a server go down... (Varg remembers our own BF42 server) 😢
