OK, the demo was cool and ran like a dream on my pc and laptop in HIGH video settings.

I now have the copy I preordered, and installed it. It runs like molasses. THe demo I got anywhere from 60-100 fps on high. On the full version I'm getting around 10-15fps set on medium. I was getting about 5-8fps on high.

    WHAT'S UP WITH THAT???!?!?!?

I am now suffering video quality for playability.

    My system:
    P4 3ghz hyperthreaded
    2G memory
    SATA 150 drive
    GForce 6800 standard

    throws hands in air.

    Duck my be right

This does not bode well for me as my system is not nearly that fast.

Did you uninstall the demo before you loaded the full game? I've heard that it can cause problems.

Suddenly I am dreading getting the game.

I noticed the demo ran a lot smoother than the game. Is that false advertising?

I have done a CTD once, but I've screwed around with the install so much, it could just be me.

Oh well... It's awful lonely in our server by myself.....

Yep, uninstalled. After defragging a couple times and overclocking my 2996mhz processor over 32xx something I've got myself up to about 20-30fps.

Do you have the absolute latest Nvidia drivers installed? With that video card, it could be you need some sort of optimized driver. Another thing, what resolution are we talking here?

Yes, i installed the one that comes with the game. it is like 5 versions newer than the latest on nvidia.

1024x768, got worse when i went to 800x600.

I finally got it installed on my laptop. It runs the same as the demo!? Smooth.
Go figure. and all my laptop has is a 64mb mobility 9600. which the game says you need a 128mb to run?

    oh well.....

ps, i also tried making an image of the disk and mounted with daemon tools. all it will do is gpf.

Was there ever a question about that?

Raze I read on PBF that some people are having trouble with hyperthreading. Have you tried disabling that and seeing how it runs?
  10. #10
Ahhh good another fine un-documented feature for RB-EA, lose all the pluses of a fast PC to play our POS game.

    Apple IIc anyone?
  11. #11
    Apple IIc IS TEH ROxXoRS

    Oh NOES!!

I believe it is a sound issue. I checked the readme and my soundcard is unsupported.. I'll know by the end of the day. I finally broke down and bought a real soundcard instead of using the integrated. :-)
  13. #13
    ahhh! The vicious cycle continues.

Buy Game ---->won't run----->upgrade------Game Runs but cool new game comes out ----->buy new cool game ----->won't run for different reason ----->upgrade

    It's a conspiracy I tell you!
  14. #14
No it's decisions made by Rat bastards to keep a good gamer down.
  15. #15
    grrrr
    time to check my soundcard
  16. #16
Well, I for one have no complaints thus far. It's running smooth as silk. But then I had problems with the demo... So who knows.
  17. #17
Everything runs just fine on mine if this helps:

    AMD 64 3000
    1024MB Corsair 3200XLPT
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer Ed.
    ASUS GeForce 6800GT 128MB

I'm running High on most settings with AA x2

I still need to tweak my Mic settings I think tho for the in-game VOIP..
  18. #18
Just got it installed but have some chores to do. Will be back in about an hour to attempt to play.
  19. #19
How do you figure out what sound card you have?
  20. #20
That appears to have been the problem. I went from using the onboard soundmax card to a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer eddition and i'm pretty smooth again. I read in the readme (I can't remember where in the BF2 directory, you can do a search) and it was listed as not fully functional with bf2. I do have to say, working 300yrds off the end of a military airbase with constant air traffic. I was playing singleplayer and had an F15 fly overhead, with the new soundcard it was pretty authendic, especially when i had the 5.1 cranked up where the pictures rattled. sssseeeeetttttttttt.......... guess I can retitle the topic now that I am not ranting anymore.

Damn You Raze! Playing at work again! 😛
  22. #22
yep, plays much better now. anyone know the equivalent to +restart 1 for bf2?

LOL, you don't know how much I played the demo at work last week. 8) 😛 8)

My game seems to be running well. Had a mouse issue but increased the USB polling and that seemed to help. otherwise all good.

How do you figure out what sound card you have?

    Right click on My Computer
    Select Properties
    Click on the Hardware tab
    Select the Device Manager box
    Expand your PC
Expand Sound, Video and Game controllers
In there will list what card or onboard drivers you are using for sound.
  26. #26
Drix throw your system configuraton up here when you have a chance. Maybe between us we can figure out why you are locking up so much.

Well, after 2 days of play, I was experiencing the same lock-up problems that were occuring when I was running the demo. Since I've reset my router, however it seems to have cleared up. As a just in case measure, I've got it logging what ports are in use from what IP's should it happen again. I know it's a connection problem. It is not doing thsi on LAN games, nor it is doing it in singleplayer.

Tonight should run smooth, even if I have to put my IP in the DMZ to accomplish it.
  30. #30
I think you are right Drix. If you don't have any problems at the LAN, then it is deffinately network related. Glad you figured it out.
  31. #31
    coolness. See you tonight.
  32. #32
Man, sounds like I am not really missing much yet...
  33. #33
I don't know man, it was some mighty good fun last night!!!
  34. #34
I agree. There are some problems with the game that piss me off, but the actual game play is great fun as long as you have a small group that works together.

I can't remember ever playing a pub server where we had a group of 4 going against their group of 4. That happened several times last night. It makes for some intense fights and it's always cool when you know your death was just enough to let you buddy survive long enough to finish off the last guy.
  35. #35
Rgr that, I had fun last night and most of it for me was in being the support to the squad. I like doing the healing and reviving, then going gun-ho into a situation to know if I die, the others will be able to make it.
  36. #36
I took the heavy support guy and loved it. I'd hang outside the flag radius and mow down anyone that spawned, while the other guys hid on the flag. That worked really well because the guys spawning wouldn't pay attention to the guys on the flag.

I also liked being able to hand out ammo. :-)

With my further problems with lockups, I have contacted EA, giving specifics to the problem, as well as a DXdiag.txt file giving specifics to my setup. We'll see if they can get their heads around my lockups... I may still have difficulties until we see the next patch, but as of right now I can't find one thing that conflicts with their recommended hardware list. My comp is clear to the net all by it's lonesome when I play right now, a condition I do not like... but then I'm one heck of a paranoid kind of guy about these things.

In any case, they say they'll respond in some way shape or form within the next 24 hours. Though I will have to see it to beleive it.

That said I may be surprised. Microsoft responded within 7 hours last time I had to bother them about something.
