    Thought I would start a thread regarding some information and basics for BF2142.

    ========================================
    A good web site with detailed info on all the games ranks, weapons etc... can be found on
    http://www.totalbf2142.com/index.php
    ========================================

    This is a post from Planetbattlefield regarding the netbat system.
    ========================================

    When I mean minimap I mean map in the corner
    When I mena 3D map I mean displays on your HUD over objects
    ok brief rundown of netbat

    Netbat systems interlink with everyone in a squad so long as your remain in range.

    Assault netbat = displays kit/health of enemy logs enemy on 3D map for everyone else on your squad till they move out of range or die

    support netbat = If recon kit uses thier camo or turns off thier camo within 30 meters of support that person will be logged on the minimap with a hollow man icon and perminently marked to your squad till dead even if they recloak

    engineer netbat = gives health info on vehicles and logs them into the 3D map till the vehicle is destroyed. If the person leaves the vehicle and another enemy gets in the vehicle will still remain lit up to the squad.

    recon netbat = the fade on ALL items in the 3D map is reduced by 5 seconds so if your highlight an enemy his name will remain visible even if they run around a corner for 5 more seconds than normal.

    Also to note the squad attack drone only will target threats logged into the netbat system or targets the SL manually engages.

    Alright.. now that you have had time to play the game.. have you noticed any extra slowdown between BF2 and 2142? And do you think that a computer that can reasonable run the demo will also reasonably run the full game?

    Hey I got your PM. I will answer here.

    I have only played 2142 for a few hours that one night so far, been busy. 2142 should use about the same resources as BF2 though. Same engine really. From what I did play with the beta, retail and demo, 2142 runs rather good. I would say the same as BF2. Some complain about lag in the titan itself when it is moved. I am unsure on it myself.

    The problem for me is that with my machine, I run everything on the highest settings and I have FIOS so I am not a good one to ask about an average setup. It runs smooth for me 😉

    Actually I did lower the effects setting to medium as there was a lot of rubble kicked up when that was on high in the beta. It ran smooth, just too much . I need to experiment with that again sometime with the retail.

    The lag is more about 80% myth more than anything... and well, 20% of it is server lag. The 80% is just simply well written physics that most do not think about.
    Unrealistically, you'll notice the bodies tend to slowly not follow the same pace fo the ship, and quickly fall through the skin... makes being an effective combat medic on the titan a bit of a bitch... Revive them fast or they quickly will not be there.

    Falling through the scenery, I figure is not really all that intentional, but rather the nature of the written effect working in the engine (one we've seen people abuse in the past on the BF2 Urban Maps, thankfully the only way it happens here if if you're already dead). The movement is intentional (while the falling through walls obviously isn't). In fact it's a good bit toned down from what reality would be given the sci-fi circumstances. After all, this is a craft floating in mid-air... and if it moved, those on board would be effectedd in both good or bad ways depending on how fast and in what direction the ship was moving... just be thankfull it can't make any evasive manuvers.

    And so occasionally it take a bit longer to go from one spot to another, or one seems to almost fall from one spot to another. It;s the nature of inirtia and moving objects. For those you whom have never been in a deringable. remember what its like trying to walk on a boat that is moving on the water... smaller scale, so obviously less stability. But the same concept applies.

    >>Edit: you know now that I think about it, and as a suggestion to EA. It's be nice if the bodies didn;t fall through, but rather piled up... it make of interesting situations inside the titan. Honestly I don;t have any idea where to start on such a concept or even if it;s possible with the engine... just a neat idea.
