To little to have a true opinion on I think, but I fear it will be not much different than BF2. I think DICE and EA will throw a beta at us with a single game mode. Anyone wanna guess if it will be pay to play?
AArrgh! Throw me a frickin' bone here people! There was an INVISIBLE soldier, with those PREDATOR-type fx. I remember Aliens vs Predator (the game), where there wwere invisible players, and you had to use the infra-vision thingy, so you played the whole game in that off-color mode so you wouldn't get hit by suprise. We're gonna all upgrade our systems for this thing and then it's gonna be like playing night maps on SF, with the night vision. Grrrr! Argh!!!
I don't want to like it.... I know what is going to happen.... They market the hell out of it and when it's released, it will be full of all sorts of bugs, etc.... Then over the next year, they will release crappy patches..... By the time they get close to fixing it, they will start promoting Battlefield 3142....
You know how the saying goes... I know not what weapons WWIII will be fought with, but I know WWIV will be fought with sticks and rocks......
From the comments section on the Front page article definitely worth copying here:
Everclearboy wrote:by EverclearBoy on Mar 21, 2006 - 01:36 PM It's official, BF2142 has been in development for awhile and the video shown along time ago of a mech in a futuristic city was the new game. It's being made by Dice Sweden and is scheduled for release in 2006 (though that'll probably get delayed). IMPORTANT! The game IS using the SAME core engine as Battlefield 2.
There will be two factions (sad panda), American-European Alliance (Americas and most of Europe) and the Pan Asian Coalition (Russia, the middle-east, and India). These two factions are fighting over control of the only hospitable places left on Earth after the polar ice caps melt, covering 75% of the world in an ice age.
Apparently each base class will have two subclasses to choose from, such as support going engineer or medic. And you can develop the class "RPG style" as you progress, with a more extensive ranking system like BF2's.
Snipers and spec-ops are two paths to take in the "recon" class. There appears to be two sniper rifles. They have a cloaking ability that makes them appear like a blurry blob running around (when moving), when cloaked they are almost invisible. One of the branches carries tracking bugs they can plant on/near things which will put some kind of target on those enemies, and the article mentioned some weapons will automatically track/follow that target. They also get EMP grenades disabling vehicles and binding players.
Assault didn't get revealed too much except they have "badass guns", and the secondary fire on them launches proximity grenades (unless it hits someone/thing then it blows up).
Support you can choose from engineer or medic. Nothing revealed about medic, but engineers will have drones they can deploy which will spot enemy targets and attack with some light firepower, but it's made clear that it is a very loud obvious device that will attract attention to you. Also they will have access to 3-4 types of mines.
Anti-tank had really no info about it at all. PCG guessed the branches are anti-air and anti-ground vehicle, and their rockets might seek.
There are weapons still on Dice's drawing board such as a vehicle mounted railgun. APC's are equipped with emp weapons to help deploy under enemy fire, and have "mysterious hatches that might be used for experimental weaponry", perhaps customizable turrets or emplacements. The picture of the APC shows side mounted turrets and a top turret, with 4 little hatch-like things with logos that appear to be some kind of buildable area.
Infantry wear special uniforms that will allow for different abilities (recon has cloak).
Rewards will be given for excellent squadwork, and staying in the squad each map will have benefits.
Squad leaders will now deploy special beacons to allow squad members to respawn by him, so the leader will be able to join the fight while teammates are respawning unlike BF2. But the beacon can be destroyed, or camped until it's naturally destroyed.
New physics are being added to allow for more versatility with animations and such like the mech walking. They can also be knocked over in "extreme circumstances". It will also crush players.
New mines include the "chaser mine" which will be planted until a nearby vehicle drives by, at which point it will hover after it.
There are sticky-bomb like explosives for the recon.
Hovercraft-like things (think HK's from Terminator) will replace helicopters, and there will be futuristic fighter jets but Dice is keeping those under wraps.
The interface is being overhauled completely. Buddy list is being implemented that will allow you to join the server any buddy is in. Simplified menu is replacing the cluttery old menu. Also map loading times are being reduced.
Parachutes are being replaced with something Dice has not commented on. They did say though that they are not jetpacks. So it's something else.
Night vision/grappling hooks will probably show up in the game, they are thinking of importing expansion pack features into their game but they aren't sure what to do.
Co-op with your friends is going to be a complete new game mode, against an AI team.
There's another mystery game mode they are keeping under wraps but PCG is guessing it's an entirely air game mode (odd!).
Apparently the game was in a pre-alpha stage when PCG played the game but they said it should be out by the end of this year and the game will be displayed for sure at E3.
I want to like this... I really, really do..... I just feel so jaded about the way they have handled everything in BF2 and I know for a fact they have learned absolutely no lessons from the previous games.
Did you see the comment about RPG like character development? They are slowly working towards a MMPOFPS.
My prediction.... The game will be released Autumn 2006 just like they are saying now. Why? Because they want to beat iD out the door with Quake Wars: Enemy Territory.
The game will be full of bugs and unbalanced game play just like all of the other games before it. Why? Because that is the way EA does business.
The game will sell really, really well to the Halo crowd and the BF2 crowd that came from Desert Combat and CounterStrike, but the faithful followers of BF42V2 will boycott the game. Why? Because Marketing is probably the best thing EA does. We know it's not make games......
"Face it Sarge, you're just jealous cause I made Hunter/Gatherer 1st Class before you!
Dude I just unlocked 'Sharpened Stick'! I was thinking about unlocking 'Bigger Rock' but based on what I read on the forums, 'Sharpened Stick' is better."

Sharpened Stick huh? I got that aaages ago therefore I am BC133t!
You guys are not l337. I already got my slingshot unlock. Eat that. I am still working on the elusive stone blade badge. it seems hard to sneak up on raptors.
EC, anyone can put a TM on their product. That in fact is a valid Trademark, even if it is not registered. If it was registered, then it would have the circle R. Trust me on this. I did a lot of research on the Service Mark I have in place on Gamers Radio and I actually hired an attorney to file a Registered SM on Gamers Radio. Once it's approved, we will add the little circle R. :-)
Back on topic, what would one use to snipe in BF 30,000 BC?
There are snipers in BF 30,000 BC? Wow! I had no idea! I guess that explains that big rock hitting me in the head as I was running along the base of that cliff. 😀
That Stone Blade badge is almost impossible to get. I only have 3 Stone Blade kills total for my whole career.
I've been playing a lot as Shaman lately... I am not really sure what the point is though. When one of your team mates gets killed, you rub leaves on them and dance around their corpse with a deer antler in one hand and a bear skull in the other... but nothing seems to happen. Am I doing something wrong?

Are you dancing clockwise starting due East of the body? Do you have the bear skull in your left hand (this is very important)? If that doesn't work, try poking them with a long pointy stick.

Blow guns silly. That is my next unlock.
Sure you get one with the standard kit but the unlock gives you 2 extra feet of blowgun for accuracy and a pointy twig at the top for aiming. I also think it is made of duller wood for better concealment.
MAN... how many points do you need to get to Hunter/Gatherer 2nd class. I just checked BF30KBC Tracker and I am only 5% towards the new rank. I'll NEVER get my blowgun! 🙁
Sarge! Thanks for the tip, dude! I was starting to dance WEST of the body towards the SETTING sun. DUH! Starting in the East towards the RISING sun makes a lot more sense. I think I'll be able to raise the dead now. Oh and I was holding the bear skull in the left hand but I was just dancing the wrong direction.
