As per the patch 1.01, one of the "known issues" is as follows:

Players who have the Windows security update KB917422 installed may suffer from an application error when running Battlefield 2142. This error can be solved by uninstalling the KB917422 update.
Here's what this security update does:

MS06-051: Vulnerability in the Windows kernel could result in remote code execution

Uninstall this security update at your own risk!

I saw that posted somewhere else. Man, that is crazy.....

Then again, didn't someone here contact EA support on their problems with BF2 and support told them all sorts of crazy things to uninstall to fix the problem?

🤔 Not that windows and microsoft are infallable when it comes to patches causing issues, but do they really expect people to uninstall security patches on their OS to play a game? I know a lot of people will, but come on now!

Well in all fairness, it was pointed out on the PBF forums that this was in the beta readme as well. So I checked and I do have this patch installed and I can run the Beta.

However, saying that, I don't trust EA. The full product could have something that WILL require me to uninstall it.

Your old username is still active. I can see about getting it switched if you want.

Just so we're clear, I didn't uninstall any security patching and the game is running just fine.

Lets be fair here, this is Microsoft's fault NOT EA's. Other games are also having issues as well as other programs from my understanding.

Microsoft already has a patch for it so you do not need to un-install that original hotfix at all now.
