Seriously, can you think of all the bad crap that is going to come from this? I know being anonymous allows people to be assholes, but having to post your real full name that Google then Indexes can be a terrible thing. How many employers are going to be biased against gamers if for no reason other than they don't understand how a grown person can spend time playing a game.
Wow, Activision really screwed Blizzard up this time....
Nope they are saying from here forward and old posts will stay obfuscated... though if they just change the user names to real names, maybe you could look at someone history? I suspect not though, they specifically said old posts aren't subject to the real names.
This is a bad sign..... I know I've bought into the whole using my real name on Facebook thing, but I have my account locked down tight. But if more sites started forcing me to use my real name, I would have to drop off the Internet regardless of how bad the withdraws are.
With Facebook, not only am I locked down, but using "Bubba" as my first name, rather than my true first name. Any friend would likely know me as Bubba.
That said, I know I have found emails sent in the early 80's by me across I think Fidonet that are now posted in archives. Nothing embarassing, but well, kidlike.
My Facebook is totally locked down and doesn't include much information at all or a picture. Only a handful of folks online know my real name (I haven't even told Bubba and he works with me!). I prefer to keep it that way.

Sarge once told me by accident, about 2 years ago. As such, he had to kill me, since then he has been posting here using my name, so as to throw off the scent should the authorities ever catch up.
Funny you should say something Sarg-er-Bubba Ever since we all met - I've used my Supra-Hacking skills and have been using Atomms real name here there and everywhere - so much so that I've forgotten who I really am.
Ah ha! Bubba finally slipped up and now I can track him down on Facebook!!!!! MUHAHAHAHAHA!
BTW, any of you play Mafia Wars? I need more recruits dang it!
I actually use a picture of Ellie, which I'm not sure whether that is a good idea or not..... Hey, she's a least cuter than I am.....
I think the thing that bothers me is my real name is unique. I know without a doubt that I am the only person with this name. That's both a blessing and a curse.......
Yeah I have a similar curse. My last name is unique enough that you would be pretty easy to find me. Honestly, I would rather have the folks here than the people who have found me and added me.
hehe.... I've ignored a few people myself.... One girl got so pissed off, she called me out for it. I was like really? It's so important to add someone to your friends list that doesn't want to add you? That's sad......
Just read that Blizzard has backed down from this.
Blizzard wrote:Hello everyone,
Iâd like to take some time to speak with all of you regarding our desire to make the Blizzard forums a better place for players to discuss our games. Weâve been constantly monitoring the feedback youâve given us, as well as internally discussing your concerns about the use of real names on our forums. As a result of those discussions, weâve decided at this time that real names will not be required for posting on official Blizzard forums.
Itâs important to note that we still remain committed to improving our forums. Our efforts are driven 100% by the desire to find ways to make our community areas more welcoming for players and encourage more constructive conversations about our games. We will still move forward with new forum features such as conversation threading, the ability to rate posts up or down, improved search functionality, and more. However, when we launch the new StarCraft II forums that include these new features, you will be posting by your StarCraft II Battle.net character name + character code, not your real name. The upgraded World of Warcraft forums with these new features will launch close to the release of Cataclysm, and also will not require your real name.
I want to make sure itâs clear that our plans for the forums are completely separate from our plans for the optional in-game Real ID system now live with World of Warcraft and launching soon with StarCraft II. We believe that the powerful communications functionality enabled by Real ID, such as cross-game and cross-realm chat, make Battle.net a great place for players to stay connected to real-life friends and family while playing Blizzard games. And of course, youâll still be able to keep your relationships at the anonymous, character level if you so choose when you communicate with other players in game. Over time, we will continue to evolve Real ID on Battle.net to add new and exciting functionality within our games for players who decide to use the feature.
In closing, I want to point out that our connection with our community has always been and will always be extremely important to us. We strongly believe that Every Voice Matters, ( http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/about/mission.html ) and we feel fortunate to have a community that cares so passionately about our games. We will always appreciate the feedback and support of our players, which has been a key to Blizzardâs success from the beginning.

Unless you play Mafia Wars or Treasure Isle, I don't care..... 😛
It's funny, but I won't add anyone from work. I like having the ability to say what I want and if I add anyone at work, I have to watch what I say. I've left several people's request just hanging so that if I leave, I can add them then.
No worries there Atomm, as I'm you - my/your facyspace page talks all sorts of hooie about the numbnutz in HR and that dude in accounting "you know who" -
There is enough generalization to keep that promotion form evarrr landing...... 🥷
