Ok I played the beta when it was out and determined I didn't care for it. The speed and the balance just seemed off. I was somewhat ambivalent until someone hopped in a tank and kicked the crap out of my team for the next 15 minutes, at this point I determined this game wasn't worth buying.
Fast Forward Until Yesterday: In the mail arrives W@W, I bought it because I wanted to continue to play with my buds who have gone that route recently. I found the maps were well laid out, they seem to work well. They have a great sense of balance with some hiding spots, but some open areas that you need to traverse. The speed of the game feels right and the use of WWII arms makes is feel like home to this BF42 guy. I played for a couple hours last night and never had a bad or boring time. The maps don't feel as contrived as those of COD4. While in my mind this is still really a mod to COD4, it seems to me that this is a mod like Desert Combat was to BF42, it's better than the stock game. Where in COD4 you have nade launchers and Martyrdom ruining your evening, they simply don't seem to be there in W@W, I don't know if they are or not.
As for cons, I list two. The Artillery fire seems to go on just a touch too long (if you are on the wrong side of the cannon) is one of them. Maybe if they shortened it jsut a touch. And Somehow despite the fact the game is about killing people in a war setting I have trouble shooting the dogs (the replacement for helo raping).
I'm glad you liked it. The perks are still there, last stand, etc, so beware of those in players like me. I use juggernaut which makes it harder to kill me, so you know everyone bitches about whatever perks your using ;p
Try out the zombie mode and see if you can compare it to L4D. Get someone to start it and invite you to the server. Its probably a good idea to start a thread or pad onto this one a W@W user name friends list for invites, etc.
Mine is lexxo I think. Should be in my sig. I hope to get back to some gaming this week, just been swamped with work and stuff. You can get your own sig through the stat link on our cartel or homepage btw. Maybe Friday night we can play some of this.
As for dizzy.... ummm, there seems to be more elements on the screen, though there seems to be more blur (lack of which is known to cause motion sickness). It seems slower and more fluid to me, so while more elements I think it might be easier on the head.
How do you think I would fare with the game? Is it is visually intense as CoD4?
In mho, you may not fare well. Since your going to get it though, great 🙂 I'd suggest playing with the contrast/brightness. I switched my monitors and checked it out on my LCD and while it was great for distance viewing, when something jumped in front of me I just about crapped, so I definitely had some blur there. There is rain and snow and litter blowing around that may or may not make it worse. I did turn up the brightness full blast and used mirrored sunglasses once, but it was too dark to really see well, but it helped with the dizziness.
Until I can afford a super quick no lag min 24" ws LCD, I'll stick to my CRT for games.

The litter part is going to suck. I already know that bugs me. It does something to my eye focus.
I guess it doesn't matter. I bought it last night on Steam. I've yet to play it, but I'm willing to give it a try this Friday. It may be late before I get on, but I should be able to make it eventually.
these pics, I wonder how you can just go out and look for them without laying on the floor with stomach cramps. I can do nothing but laugh for a while and hours after I am still greening when I just think about it. Your posts are vary healthy when they are like that, man ...
I have come to really like W@W. Killing Lexx with the flame thrower is so much fun I can hardly stand it. 🙂
I was actually surprised. I LOVE the WWII era. However most WWII games seemed primitive. I guess it is the way the implement the weapons etc... One reason I am not as much a fan of BF1942. This one kept it very interesting.
If you like COD4 you WILL like W@W. Simple as that. 🙂
I enjoyed my brief foray into W@W last night despite getting absolutely demolished on that first server we played on. I'll need a bit longer to get the hang of the weapons, but so far so good,
The first game I played, I had 8 kills and 3 deaths. That was cool!
Unfortunately, I think I may have to call this one dead. I really loved the game, but the explosions and grenades shaking the screen did me in. I was fine until that happened. Now, if you want to make a no explosions, rifle's only server, I might be able to take this in small doses. :-)
FYI, I wasn't on Dramamine and I'm willing to try one more time the next time I get some.

I think we covered this before but Mythbusters did a special on remedies for "sea sickness" They came to a conclusion that ginger really seems to help. Would eating ginger snaps work?
Atomm wrote:I tried ginger. I don't think it helped this, but it did give me a nice set of indigestion.
Duck, Can I help it if I feel like I'm loosing a big part of my life and looking towards drugs to help me compensate? 😛
Hmmm, drugs. . .You know, come to think of it, if you dropped acid and joined us in Ventrilo, you might just get the same experience as if you were actually gaming. . . 😉
Look out Atomm, he's coming right for you!!!!!!!!!
