Just downloaded a map via planetbattlefield called "The Jungle Hunt" which supposedly had a working tunnel system. I played it solo for a few minutes this afternoon and found one "tunnel system" in the center of the map (look for a large rectangular grey area on the minimap). Basically, they did what LoU and Scott did on No Rest for the Wicked and what Atomm and Raze did on the Ghost Front map. One difference was that they put multiple levels in the tunnel using ladders. They have a flag in the bottom level, but I could not get off the ladder to turn it.
There may be other tunnels on the map, but I only found the one so far.
A question for you mappers, could you sink a building completely into a mountain, camoflauge the enterences and call that a tunnel system? just curious.
I don't know, you might could pull off an optical illusion thing like i did in ghost front. make the front ridge high where you don't notice it. Also having a little gound in the building could help pull off the "tunnel" idea.
I was messing with this earlier. Basically put a building down and grew some mountains around it. put lots of foliage in front of the building to screen what was left. Other than the floating trees (lol) it worked pretty well. If you could chain a bunch of buildings together in a pit, cover the pit with the courtyard or other buildings. might be interesting.
I opened that map in BattleCraft. He used "building facade" to cover the holes over the tunnels. This is a real good idea that im going to try out in many differant ways.
You can also use the wall with the hole in it from the Hue map as an entrance. The cool thing about using buildings as tunnels, is that you get multiple levels within it. Are there any buildings with roof entrances? That could add a new dimension to this as well. Not that you aren't much more experienced with this than I am, but I will continue to mess with things and see what I find.
Checked out the Jungle Hunt map a little further last night and found the actual tunnel system. The flag on the center left of the map has a true tunnel system built from the object in Battlecraft. It is pretty cool to go down into it (look for the entrance in the grass hut), but I found that I could not get off the bottom of many of the ladders in the tunnel (a problem with this map in general) so you have to circle around back to the primary entrance. Overall the tunnel is pretty cool though. There is also another flag (lower left) that is under a temple, and the designer did a great job of disquising the entrance. Difficult to see unless you are standing right in front of it. On the minimap however, you can see the lines of the covered tunnel.
Just saw on the Planet Battlefield site that a new version of the map has been released. Will d/l tonight and see if the ladders work any better.
I used that wall with the hole in it, all the other versions, Corner pieces, stonewallintact, and have made a very large underground area. It is very imressive. I cannot wait for the next test night. (which may be pretty soon) We Gotta bout 4 or 5 maps.
Checked out the Jungle Hunt map again last night. Seemed to run a bit more smoothly, and I was able to get off the bottom of a ladder or two more, but it still has problems. The tunnels are impressive though, and if this map wasn't so darn huge would probably make for great gameplay.
