    FROM STEAM NEWS ONLINE

    Friday, September 9 2005
Preloading of Day of Defeat: Source will begin next week. It will be released and ready to play on September 26th. Once we get closer to that date, we'll set an exact time for when we'll "throw the switch."

Preloading the game allows people to have the entire game on their hard drive in encrypted form so that, if already purchased or pre-ordered, it will be playable at the moment it is released. Dedicated server administrators will also have some time to get their servers up and running before the 26th.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is also some pretty exciting news on the MOD front, where the team over at Dystopia is preparing to release a demo of their game today at 11:59 GMT. Head on over to the Dystopia page to check out their release.

    Anyone?

I've heard you can upgrade to the silver or gold with a steam account. I believe you just pay the difference which is 10 for silver.

Since I do not have HL2, if I jump on board, I'll just get the whole package. sometime after release.

hmmm. maybe. Will have to see what the final cost is. I have a message when I load up the steam store saying that I already made a purchase through steam and can't upgrade to the silver package that way. Checking the valve boards looks like I have to wait for them to sell DOD via a stand alone package.

Depending on how much that package is, I may be able to purchase it.

Do what? You can't get it via Steam? That goes against what I've read. Ok, this is BS.

Looks like you can buy it from Steam for $20 down the road. No idea when. I was willing to pay $10, but $20 for a game I may not even be able to play.

It looks like EA ain't the only rat bastards around here.

I'm hoping they'll up date the "Games" window to be able to click it to buy!
But other than that I haven't seen/searched any results.

Well as I hoped you click to buy DoD source through the game console. $17.99 was the pre-order cost.
