Here at the Splash Damage World Headquarters we started working on the Demo right after the game went gold - we really wanted to get the Demo out there before release to give all of you the chance to see what ETQW is all about. The best part is that the Demo is wrapped up and ready to go; it's set to hit the internet this coming Monday - September 10, 2007 - just a few days from now! Read on to find out the system requirements, what the Demo will contain, and all the cool stuff we've got planned to celebrate the Demo launch.
    What You'll Get

The Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars PC Demo comes with the final version of Valley, one of the larger battlegrounds in the game. Set in Yosemite, California, Valley has the Global Defense Force on the attack, as they attempt to foil a Strogg contamination plot centering on a water treatment facility. Valley features a great blend of close quarters infantry action, vehicle battles and aircraft dogfights, and the varied terrain combining mountains, waterways, tunnels and industrial structures allows for many different playing styles. To top it all off, there's a multitude of optional side missions and plenty of opportunities to try out the various defense turrets, artillery and radar deployables - Valley is a prime example of the frantic and diverse action you'll find in Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars.

If you want to learn more about Valley, read our Valley Map Guide for a full run-down of the team objectives, secondary missions and a host of tactical tips for getting the most out of the various GDF and Strogg weapons, items, deployables and vehicles.

For those who already played Valley in the Public Beta, the map has undergone further balance improvements based on your feedback. Most notably, the GDF can now capture the Contaminator Forward Spawn before the Shield Generator is hacked, which really cranks up the action around that objective. On top of that, the Demo contains the final XP and weapon balance, player movement, and vehicle handling.

The Demo also features ETQW's bots, so you can explore the map and gameplay in single player mode with computer-controlled opponents, or use the bots to fill up empty slots on multiplayer servers. We are also including the standalone server as well as the server launcher tool, so you can host your own online and LAN games.
    Where You'll Get It

We're working with a large number of file hosting websites in order to make the Demo available to as many people as possible. These include Yahoo, Nvidia, FilePlanet, and Fileshack among many others - we'll be keeping an up-to-date list of mirrors right here on the Community Site, so you can pick the one that's best for you.

What Else You Can Look Forward To

To celebrate the launch of the ETQW Demo, we've got a number of cool activities planned. On September 10, we'll be having an IRC Demo launch party in the official Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars IRC channel. This is your chance to chat with members of Splash Damage, id Software, and Activision and play a few rounds of the ETQW Demo with them afterwards.

We've also teamed up with a number of partners to bring you several Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Demo tournaments, so you can try out the game, put your skills to the test and win Cool Stuff. Our partners here include Total Gaming League, Xfire, Eurogamer, and IGUK. Look for more information on these and other Demo events in the coming days!

Phew, that was quite a lot of stuff. We hope to see you on the Demo servers next week!

    Sweet!

Definitely looking forward to it... been having fun on the game.. spawns are close to the action and there is always something to do... now just to figure out how the fireteams work.
  4. #4
Damn! I never really got to play the beta and it went Gold already!

Sheesh the demo will be out and I JUST got the beta patched and created the new account etc... 🙂
  5. #5
No big deal Paladin.. just learn what all the weapons are.. I still have some testing to do with that teleporter.. it is quite fun.

One more day! Yeah I'm looking forward to trying the demo.

I LOVED Quake 4, a very fun run-&-gun game. Hopefully Quake Wars is fun too. I'm tired of multi-player games that are so complex that it's more fun doing homework than playing the game. 🔫
  7. #7
    QW is pretty complex actually.
  8. #8
As long as it's easier than BF2142 - that game burns me out after a couple of maps. I guess "complex" is actually OK, as long as the game is fun.
  9. #9
I think it's more fun than 2142. It's similar but different. I think once you figure everything out, it's straight forward. Get the demo and join us for a round or two. Jump in TS and we will be happy to help you figure out whats going on.

Anyone have a dload link yet? I just looked on fileplanet and didn't see it yet. Have no idea if it has a time limit to start, etc.

I'm finally getting around to d/loading the other b demo. Going to be wet sawing tile all day, so its a good time to get some of these dloads going.

I haven't seen a download link yet either but I haven't checked the official forums for an expected time or locations yet...

    Edit:

badman wrote:The official release time is 10 AM Pacific / 6 PM British / 7 PM Central European. We are going to have a list of mirrors here on the site once the demo is released.

Leading up to the actual demo release, we are going to have an IRC chat with members of the development team in the official ETQW IRC channel. You'll be able to submit your questions during the chat, so this is a great chance for you to get information straight from the people behind the game. The details for the chat are as follows:

    Network: irc.quakenet.org
    Channel: #quakewars
Chat Start Time: 9:15 AM Pacific / 5:15 PM British / 6:15 PM Central European

That's a 1:00 PM release EST for me.

As of 1.07 its only avail for preorder for subscribers. I just checked my query and my beta download failed too. There is a network error there.

    I hate f'in fileplanet!

    Thanks Sarge, that really helped.

Is it my imagination or is your link the same as my link?

ATI = AMD now anyhow 😀

    (sigh)

Yup. They have that weird navigation at their site where you move around but the address doesn't change. My bad. I should've noticed, especially when the doggone page takes forever to load. That'll learn me to help.

This link should be different, and should work. I'm not sure it's showing up on that previously posted link now. Weird-ass navigation!

Er, does anyone know of any way to monitor the server? I see that Xfire doesn't yet support QW as far as showing who's on, or storing it in the recent visited server list.

Kinda reluctant to load the game just to see no one is on, and/or it full. Figures xfire updates everytime I run it with new games, but QW isn't working yet.
  19. #21
I don't think x-fire supports demos. Remember QW is still just a demo
I would say as usual join TS if in game

I can see when people are playing QW. Maybe you need an xfire upgrade that hasn't come through....

Teamspeak is the other good option....

Yah I can see when someone I knows is in the game, its when your not that I was more concerned with. For the next several weeks I'll be working up to about 10pm nightly and I'd like to get in some latenite practice, yet an empty TS tells no tales of the server's activity.

I'm sure xfire will address this soon.

With the bots on you shoudl be able to play at any time.. hell even in warmup its fun to shoot a few bots for a couple minutes and to keep cycling through the classes to get used to their base weapons with quick class changes by going to the 'L'oadout screen and switching.

Yah, I found that out last nite. Spawned in during warmup and the bots were teamkilling the heck outof me.

This is another thing I like over BF, the bots let you get in some action even if the server is empty. Thanks for putting some in Atomm.

    I hope it's a good balance.....

I'm working on getting a server monitor script that doesn't hang for the front page.
