F.E.A.R. multiplayer to become available for free
    by Cyril Kowaliski - 04:44 pm, August 8, 2006

In an unusual move, Sierra has decided to isolate the multiplayer component from Monolith's horror shooter F.E.A.R. and release it for free as F.E.A.R. Combat. The free multiplayer game will be made available for download on August 17, although gamers will need to sign up at joinfear.com to get a license key before being able to play. F.E.A.R. Combat will include:

    - 10 Multiplayer Game modes.
    - 19 Multiplayer Maps.
    - 12 different weapons.
    - Punkbuster support for anti cheat support.
    - The capability to download user generated content.

To top it off, users of F.E.A.R. Combat will also be able to play with owners of the full retail-boxed game. Thanks to Shacknews for the link.

<-=As originally seen on the OKGG forums. Figured here would be a good place to share as well.

    I all about free!

I believe this move is based on the fact that while FEAR has gotten rave reviews as a single player game, the multiplayer tanked.

Thanks for the news Drix. I'll work up a front page story on it.

posted this in comments before I looked for a thread.
I think this is good move on Sierra's part.
I've played the MP demo and it wasn't to bad.
I could probably start to like it!
    Anyone else try this!

I wonder what Seirra has down the pipe.

They have already announced an expansion for FEAR. I imagine this is a way they can build interest for the game and hope to sell more expansions.

I'll deffinately get it when it's released. I just hope I can play it.

So far it ain't bad. Nice to have a game with the ability to lean around corners again. The weaponry takes some getting used to, but that's not a bad thing.

Which reminds me, need to check on minimum server requirements. Now that I'm single, I have my gamerserver box back, might be able to put one up for clan use.
