FPS'S SUCK

Spent tonight playing Counterstrike, Counterstrike: Source, and Day of Defeat:Source. I COULD NOT DO A DAMN THING.

    Snipe snipe snipesnipesnipeSNIPESNIPESNIPE! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !! !

Freakin' sniperfest. Shot me thru doors, rounding corners, crossing open land, as I lay in wait to shoot them, and in MID-AIR as a dropping off a wall. Seems you have to be a sniper or a heavy MG'er to do anything, and they put a limit on how many of them can be in the game, either thru 'money' or numerical limits

I used to LOVE Day of Defeat, but now I think I'm getting too old for these things.

I'm gonna make a mod and call it sniperland. EVERYONE has sniper rifles all the time. Should be a hit!

But for now, I think I'll go play Bejeweled. . .

Well Doc, theres always Firefly mmorph on the horizon 😉

I've had UT players dropping out stating doctors excuses lately too. Apparently the addrenline needed to play the game is affecting some peoples nerves and heartrates.

Take a break and perhaps finish some single player missions. I finally got around to finishiing HL2. Sucky part was I had to rebuy it cause I lost the first disk, but I got CS and CS:S that way tho 🙂

FINALLY he understands... Man that took long enough 😉

UT is really stressful man, that is why I do not play at your level. Too much constant play time. No breaks..

Well, Day of Defeat has the Piats and the Panzerfausts, but they just don't have the same pazzazz. . .or a shotgun 🙂

Played some BF2 last night on the pubs. Switched squads a lot looking for teamwork. Finally found some later when I was squad leader. I'd put objectives on the map, stay back as a spawn point, and on Mashturr, we'd travel around taking the gas stations so the enemy couldn't use the transport choppers (which they were using very effectively). It was one of the best pub-games I'd ever had.

The transport choppers were improved last patch, with much more armor added. They must've had an engie or 2 working, but still, those things took a pounding yesterday. Anti-air, truck-mounted mg's, and of course AT.

I went back and played some ORIGINAL Day of Defeat last night, and had a better time. Dunno why. Maybe it's the netcode, speed of play, or something else, but I like the feel of that game better than the others I mentioned. I think it's time for game-makers to stop worrying about eye candy in games for awhile and concentrate on very good netcode, smooth moving/working gfx, anti-cheat measures, and accurate hitboxes. I'd be happy with the current level of gfx for a couple of years if they could fix hitboxes (rockets, and presumably other projectiles, going thru targets) clipping (ppl's legs sticking out of buildings) and lag (where what you see is actually a second or so behind what is happening). I really don't want to compromise on those things.

Hit boxes? they actually have those things? and Lag?.. bah there is a simple solution, shoot the rocket at their feet as per Quake3 and hope that even that massive explosion does a bit of damage to their shadow/lag form. Forget sniping unless the person has never played FPS before so they are running in a nice straight crawl, not jumping as sindy does nor zigzaging like a chipmunk on speed, or heaven forbid they are standing completely still and looking around like a lost gerbil hunting for his felching buddy.

It sure would be nice to see a solid hitbox scenario, though I do like the damage notifier in BF, just hate the quite fictional unless it feels like it bullet drop. That would be nice, bullet drop, and perhaps some bullet penetration on a plexiglass cover with an armor piercing round... but that might be asking too much.

I can't find anything consistant with bullet-drop in BF2 either. I pretty much just wing it as a sniper and keep shooting until one of us dies or runs out of ammo 🙂 As for the rocket at the feet, that's one advantage of playing AT all the time 😱 I figured out it was one way to ruin the insta-prone pkm's day. . .of course, now I insta-prone whenever I feel like it too, since EA has no intentions of ever taking it out. I don't do too much bunny-hopping. Throws off my aim as much as the enemy's, though if I'm empty, I may do it to stay alive until I reload. What the hell, if the designers feel it's ok, I might was well use it. Everyone else will.

"Gerbil and his felching-buddy"? Sounds like an internet cartoon, or better yet, Band Name! ! ! ! "Gerbil and the Felch-buddies"!

You mean, affecting them when they're playing, or at other times?

HL2 was great, but it's a shame you had to buy it twice. If you get around to it and find a deal, the expansion, "episode one" is great also. I got in on sale for under $10 back when I was in PGH.

Dunno how the Firefly game will be. I love the characters and the dialogue on the show, neither of which will be in the game, but I'll keep my eye on how it shapes up.

I thought we were all full up on Crazy, but now you tell me we have too much armegeddon too? Damn....

Some players say they get chest pains while playing, and/or sweaty palms, or palpations. One guy I know said he was only 20ish or so. I used to get sweaty palms until I realized what it was and quit worrying about the scores so much, and just relaxed. Its easy to get over this once you realize your limitations.

I get headaches playing BF, mostly I think due to the frustration of slow spawning and artillary/jets.

Wow, that sort of sums up a bad day playing BF2. I have had many of those, but sometimes it all falls in place and you become the "unstoppable warrior". UT never bothers me because I know I suck at it; therefore, I look at the fancy graphics while waiting for someone to frag me.

Oh I agree. Rankings, metals, and stats gets me too uptight sometimes. Then again, I almost always have a great 2nd game, then the rest of the night drop to midscore or worse. I got my ass handed to me every TWL match, but I enjoyed them cause I didn't stress over the score. But damn when your hot, its a nice high that lasts the rest of the night. Last week I got some holyshits and a godlike once, and I just can't seem to get that same kind of thrill from BF... 20secs spawn, swawnkilled, 20sec spawn, artilary kill, 20sec spawn sniper, etc. etc.

Next month you have to come frag with us Varg when I get a server back online.

    You talking UT2004 or '07?

How much can you get '04 for anymore?

I know what you mean about those moments when it gives you a real rush. Unfortunately for DocJon, they are usually when I'm playing against him. Hence him calling me Sandbagger. ;-)

UT also gives me a rush. At Quakecon 04, several old GRB's and I were playing a ZoomInstagib, LowGrav, QuadJump CTF around 2am Sunday morning. We had to be out of the hotel by noon later that day, but we decided to play just one more round. It turned into a 4 hour 12 on 12, 0 to 0, match of mayhem I will never forget. I was pumped up the whole time and loved every minute of it. I only got 4 hours of sleep before having to drive home, but it was one of the best games I have ever played, even if we finally lost 1 to 0. ;-)

I love the custom maps for UT. They are some of the best looking maps.

    Bastage. . . 🙂

Hey, I kilt 6 ppl in 15-20 seconds yesterday, 3 of them knife kills when I ran out of rockets/shells. That really picked up my k/d ration that round!

    Good times. . .

There's this great cure for the stats whores in BF. Play a MOD!

I've been playing Project Reality for a month or so now and I have yet to hear anyone in a squad I'm in mention anything about stats (other than to question how the scoring works). Because it's much "tougher" than vanilla BF, there are still those "Shit, that was cool moments". For instance, last night I was in a great squad and a sniper was on top of a ridge/cliff above us. The entire squad focused on him and took him down and all watched as his body fell down the face of the cliff. Or later when the whole squad was advancing to a flag through smoke with tracer flying all around - priceless.

I still have yet to pick up CS, but really haven't had a whole lot of time for gaming the last few weeks. I've managed to squeeze in an hour or so late at night when I should be sleeping and that's about it.

Yeah I saw you sneak out last night, didn't catch you coming in, but then again I didn't even play on my box at all last night.. not even a shot fired. 🙁

But on the plus side I might get more time to roll soon.. perhaps get a bit more into that PR mod if I can find one with a decent number.. sub 50ms would be great.

Had a horrible night a few days ago with Drix on 2142, lag is and shall almost always be death to a sniper, but then me and Atomm rolled onto an IO SF server that was killer.. brought that night up by quite a few notches. Almost feel like I am getting used to the game finally... now to just get it on my actual PC rather than my laptop.

On that note we need to get a GRB PR squad running one of these nights.. its a bit tactical so it would need at least 3 more like all 6 spots to be full up, teamspeakin' the whole time. It would be nice.
  21. #21
Yea, SC, IO SF the other night was a blast. We were on a 64 player server with no lag. I don't think Paladin would have cared for it. Felt more like UT than BF. ;-)

Sarge, what is the latest version for Project Reality? I'll update it so I can join you one night.

We already have myself, Sarge, and I believe Bubba has been running around with it..

The latest version is 0.40 which is compatible with BF 1.41. They are currently testing version 0.41 that will upgrade the helos to something a bit more realistic but as I said its still only testing and not in full effect yet, but hopefully soon.

Very cheap if you can find it retail. Google it and mail order for under $15. We're putting two UT servers back online in Jan 🙂 I wouldn't trust ebay however. Alot of jerks tried to sell their banned cd keys. I belong to UTAN, a universal cheating watch org. Its used to keep out the really disgusting cheaters.

O7' is rumored to be out March/April 07 and probably will cost $50-70 bucks. I'm also working on a new website located at http://utvclan.co.nr dedicated entirely to UT.

Atomm, I could use a 256x256k GRB logo to put in partners, btw...

How do you tell what version you have? I loaded it, no obvious method of determining it was available. I foulnd a longish # on the screen - 1.1.2965-797.0 - but I don't know if that applies to the PR mod, or if it's the BF2 version#.

I found 10 servers, 4 of which were displayed in white, 6 in red.

When did you do that Doc? The 1.4 version of the mod came out a couple of weeks prior to the latest BF2 patch. For a while after the 1.41 patch for BF2 the mod team was recommending that you not upgrade because they weren't sure it was compatible. At that point there were a few servers that did upgrade so you saw some white and some red.

There are only a few servers that run the mod and are active at this point. Tactical Gamers is playing conquest and I highly recommend you play on that server. I've also been playing on the ECGN server but they are playing Advance and Secure mode which makes this difficult mod even more so - especially when you have 20-30 enemies who all know the one flag that you need to take 😒

If you are wanting to play AT, make sure you learn how the kit request system works so you can get the heavy AT kit. You will not have a shotgun or rifle iirc. There is an AT Rifleman which gives you the assault rifle and a 1 shot AT round and mines.

There is a link to the wiki/FAQ in the PR thread somewhere around here.

    I'm confused.

I'm talking about Project Reality, which is up to version 0.40 to my knowledge. Was there a patch released for this? I can only find FULL clients, with no indication of patches.

Sorry! I was talking about the 1.41 patch for Vanilla BF2. There was a time where some servers had upgraded to the 1.41 for Vanilla and others hadn't. I was thinking that was when you saw the white & red servers.

Edit: Project Reality is at 1.4 but it is compatible with BF2 Vanilla 1.41

They are already selling 2007 as a preorder at Wal-Mart. But I did manage to grab the 2004 edition, for 9.96 or so.. two of them for me and the wife.. perhaps she will be sending some insta-gibs your way in a week or so.

Grrr. . .I DL'ed the PR 0.40 mod, but the file was currupted, so I have to DL it again. . .

I think it's related to a small partition I have set aside for my temp internet files. I set the file to DL to another, larger drive, but Windows automatically dumps it in the temp internet drive before copying it over to the correct directory. I was running out of space and I had to delete a lot on that drive to make room, due to the many "you are running out of disk space" msgs(nothing important tho).

In order to avoid this in the future, I added more space to that partition, and I wanted to add some more to my windows C: partition while I was at it. However, Partition Magic 8 warns me about crossing the 1024 cylinder boundary on my boot partition when adding space to the C: drive.

Is this something I need to worry about with WinXP Pro and an Intel 865 motherboard, or is this for older operating systems?

Hah.. I just got the download, I used to play this game ages ago.. though I don't think i ever did more than play a demo that came with a PC magazine. Will give it a go, but the lack of a mouse is going to hamper me for a bit.. I really need to move back to my PC.

Well ok nevermind it was but an excuse, the lack of skill will most likely hamper me.

At least pickup a desktop mouse to go with your laptop. I can't see any serious FPS play with a touchpad, yuck! If your playing BF with that setup your really handicapping yourself. Hell playing on a laptop is handicap enough.

Hah.. tell me about it, at least I dont have to go cross hands with BF like I do with UT.. 🙂 Though this laptop really isn't all that behind the power curve, just i dont get to see all of the graphics, everything is low low.
