I have been wanting to check this out for a while. This weekend, I had a chance to play a few rounds. I really enjoyed it and the best part is you can play for free if you want.
Download and install the client. It takes a while to install since it's pulling a lot of stuff from the net.
Launch the client. Under account info is a link for a free trial. This takes you to a menu. Click on the image called Training Room. From here, you can play 1 of 5 prebuilt 40 card theme decks from the ninth series. The interface takes a bit to get use too, but it was just as much fun as the real thing for me.
If anyone gets it, let me know. I'll play you a round or two sometime.

No thanks. I did not do WoW and I won't do any pay to play game if this is one. If it is not then I still won't as I do not need another addiction. 😉
MAgic the Gathering is a card game for those unfamilur with it. I used to play back during the Ice Age series. I recall I've actually got a legit version of the first PC version they put out. No idea where it is now, but I recon it's around here somewhere. For now I'm not going to pick the habit back up. It was fun, but I have my ahnds in too many pies as is.
In another life I managed a toy store, when MTG cam out. I was an addict. Collected - traded the cards. Hardly ever played the game, loved the art work. To the point that I had a full set of the first 5 releases in protective binders, every card.
I sold them to a guy opening up a card shop in Enfield CT for $3,000
I still have 6 Alpha cards (Alpha cards had square cut corners) 25 Beta MTG cards (I was friends with the Chessex distributor who got me hooked on to it) and the now illegal set of posters (4 laminated) from Charity Fellowship showing the design, art and card verbiage differences in Alpha, Beta and standard issue cards.
WoTH did not sanction the posters nor did they allow their material to be copywritten, so Charity Fellowship lost a court battle on rights.
I think they made 200 sets of the posters, mine are still in immaculate shape in the original shipping tube. Some day I'd like to find out what the price is for the posters. There taking up space and I'm sure someone out there would kill to have the set.

Those Alpha and Beta cards are pretty valuable. If I remember correctly, the Black Lotus card is one of the most valuable.
My personal collection isn't near as interesting. I started with the 7th edition and bought some Tournament Packs and a bunch of boosters. I actually had my wife playing at one time, but she has since moved on with her life....;-)
Like I said in the intro stuff though, I haven't played in ages either. It's been probably at least 5yrs, but I used to like playing. I will check out the free online thing probably right now... 😄
I haven't played much since Ice Age, but still have a fairly large collection. I have some foriegn cards (mostly Italian, I think) and a handfull of cards autographed by the artist.
I sold off a lot of cards to finance my first non-Commodore computer, a Pentium 133 🙂
BTW, they just released a set cold Cold Snap. From what I have been able to figure out, Ice Age only had two expansions instead of the normal 3, so 10 years later they decided to finish it. I listened to the Podcast talking about it on the way home today. Yea, radio out here sucks, so I find other things to keep me entertained on the long boring drive home. Anyway, it sounded pretty cool.
If you get it downloaded, let me know. I went ahead and signed up for the paid deal, but I'll play in the free section with you guys. I think it would be cool to get on TeamSpeak while we play.
Well gosh... there goes all my plans for FNK. Friday Night Knitting.... I was thinking we could all join up into TS, then crank up a Martha Stewart video and learn to button hook and cross stitch together... 🙁
ok, so I'm with Bubba on this one, it depends on who you're wrestling with... But, also, what Bubba, Duck and Atomm do together in their spare time is none of my business. 😉 😄
man, I remember I had some sort of a MTG program on a floppy disk back in the day. I think it might've been a deck builder or something like that. It was really weak.
I still have 700 or so cards. Most of them are common and crappy though.
Yea, there have been several versions. The funny thing is it's still very much like it was 8 years ago..... They are in beta for a new client and it is finally starting to look like something built in the last few years......
