Further Thoughts On BF2

The more I play this game, the more I find. A few thoughts after playing it a few more times.

4 of us teamed up on a squad and had a freaking blast. We had a medic, support person and two fighters. It worked out very well. You need the support guys. There is nothing like bringing a buddy back from the dead. :-) Also, being able to spawn on the Squad leader is an interesting thing, especially when he's driving a big vehicle. You pop right into the vehicle. I loved that, but I can see it getting abused. It is really important the squad leader is not the medic, so you can bring him back to life if he dies.

On the current map, we played as MEC. Not once did we win, even when it seemed like we controlled the game. I'm not sure how the ticket thing works, but we need to figure it out. Another issue is the transport Helo on US. I think it really unbalances the match.

Another thing I noticed last night is it is a blast to move in a coordinated squad, but this game is all about the vehicles. We did so much better when we had wheels. I would love to play this in a Infantry Only ladder.

A good commander makes all the difference. We had a bad commander who kept giving our squad stupid orders like attack the next flag, the most expected point. The commander switched latter on and the new guy understood the concept of flanking and taking the flag of least resistance, boxing in the enemy. He gave great UAV support and artillery. That was fun.

I can't wait to play the full game. I just hope and pray it's more balanced than I have seen so far.

We need to try this again here in the next few days with an engineer in the vehicle with us... see how much longer we survive as a result. Squad of 5... 1 anti-tank, 1 special Forces/ops, 1 medic, 1 support, 1 engineer. Then we'll see how unbalanced we can be with an APC... let's face it, it's be better than the tank if it didn't run out of ammo and have a bit less armor... both problems fixed by an engineer and a support person.

I persoanlly think the otherside might have had an engineer in those transport choppers. I hit one with 4 missles and it still didn't die. I'm willing to bet that was the plan of one squad, and why it seemed so unbalancing.

Good point. This is why I say we organize pub take overs from time to time. We can wipe up the pubbers with our squad. :-)

Teamwork is the key for sure. The US Transport with a decent pilot and a decent gunner who happens to be a medic or an engi can wreak havoc. The few times that I have been able to coordinate well with other players we have done well.

I have seen the MEC win a few times, but it does seem like the US wins more often than not.

I noticed that too Sarge. I went through all the maps on the GameSpy preview and I am concerned about balance. My experience with the Demo is the US wins almost always, even when it seems like the MEC's control the map most of the time.

I hope they did a lot of playtesting.....

Ebay's not being very friendly lately Atomm.
My limit is $40 for a 9800 PRO, missed this weekend by $12

Will get there sooner or later, but not for more than $40.00

Honestly a boor bastard like me, that's all I can do is Ebay SW and HW.
Just have to be patient and set a personal limit, and you'll get a good deal sooner or later.

Then again if the Rat bastards would have supported the most popular card in the history of gaming, I would not have to screw with Ebay.

I have an ATI 9600 and am having no problems playing, even on a full or mostly full 64 player server. Will depend on the rest of your system, but maybe you can find one of those for something closer to your target. For example:

I emailed my Mom a link to the BF2 gamespot site listed on the front page, telling her this is what she could get me for my birthday. I got a call Sat. night from her double checking that I had sent the right link, her next question was ,"How old are you?"

    😄 😄 😄

I get the same response when people find out that I spend my free time gaming. Some people just don't get it.

Yea, I am in the same boat. People just don't get it.

Duck, if things don't work out, you might try Sarge's suggestion. I just don't want to use ATI because I am too lazy to reload my system. From everything I have seen, switching from Nvidia to ATI causes too many problems not to wipe the system.
