Google Rumored to Buy Valve

This is strictly rumor and Valve has said Google wasn't buying them. However, you know how these things go.

Here is the part that I find interesting. It clearly states that Valve is open to being purchased. That scares me. In fact, I can't imagine why EA hasn't pulled the trigger.

What do you think about Google buying Valve? If it made the games free to play, I might consider it. However, I think Valve itself will be toast. In fact, I could see them stripping Steam out and reselling all the IP to another game company.

Huh. I don't know what to think about this. Steam and the Half-Life series are valued gems, to be sure. It's probably a Bad Thing if ANYONE buys Valve, but God help us if EA buys them, so Google would look to be a much better choice. Clearly, Steam would be their target. I just hope they don't sell off the intellectual properties to smacktards like EA.

Well EA already distributes valve games, which is odd in itself.

Google is a very scary company, I hate seeing them buy anything. They also tend to have some adhd going on. Remember when Yahoo! bought all seeing eye and completely ran it into the ground.

One of the articles I read mentioned Steam could be used to sell apps for the new upcoming Google Android Phone ala the ITunes/Apple store setup.

If you start thinking of steam as a really good delivery system with an established footprint instead of a gaming system, it seems like it does have a lot more value.

I agree. I'd be more of the mind they would want to meld it in place of their google checkout. I've noticed they are signing up a hell of a lot of clients with that. Hell I've used it several times already, from a waterbed to a mp3 player.

Its nice to use your google email acct without creating a new acct everytime you want to buy something on the net.

Google seems to want to have their hands in everything... I am surprised that the FCC hasn't stepped in to tell them to chill out...

The DoJ is actually investigating them for a recent deal they made with Yahoo to offer Google advertising on Yahoo search. Yahoo tested it back when M$ was trying to buy them as a way of staving them off. Now that is done, they are still pursuing it.

Considering it would give them about 85-90% of the internet search advertising market, a lot of people are concerned. Heck, I'm even concerned.

I have a google checkout account Lexx. It's ok, but it fails in one aspect. It should be a direct competition to Paypal, but it's actually no different than a traditional Merchant Account to accept Credit Cards. I wish it was because Paypal has screwed me over a few too many times, but what can you do when there is no one else big enough to use?
