I've been looking at this as well. mayhaps a purchase after my QW purchase. I may be the only person aquiring Halo2 later this week, but I am stickign to my one game purchase a month budget for now.

After all, lots of good RTS so far this year.

I liked HALO I single player as far as I played it.

Yes, it;s DX10 only. Anriel from OKGG directed to me a DX10 workaround someone was working on for XP... but it's still heavy in dev.

So yes, for now it's only for Vista, Lexx. Was why I figured I'd be one of the few in our circle playing it. I'm happily surprised to be wrong.

Oh it is DX10 only. That sucks. Maybe I will duel boot Vista and XP 😉

You said duel.... [beavis]hehe heh hehe heh heheh[/beavis] [butthead]Shut Up Beavis![/butthead]

I can just see it now.... In this corner, Windows XP and in this corner, Windows Vista Home Improvement Ultimate Upgrade with Teriyaki Sauce Edition, Version 2.0.0.2.1.1.1.1.!.!.!.eleven

In a duel to the death, only one OS can claim the MBR!!!!

No, it's not pick on Paladin Day. I'm just in a mood and he's been lobbing it right over the plate. Don't worry though, I am sure I will get mine..... 😛

Dont' laugh too hard. I was there yesterday and he had a shiny new box of Vista sitting there on his coffee table all ready to be installed.

Hehe, it must be nice to have no kids and lots of money 🙄

On vista recommendations, I personally recommend the business Edition. it has everything the Ultimate edition has, including the full network suite (home premium does not), except the DVR/Media Center stuffs. If you're not making it you're TIVO equivalent, It's not worth the cost difference.

But anyway, yes, Halo2. I'll put a reply up tomorrow night to give some perspective to those still contemplating whether or not it'll be worth the purchase. Most still won't be able to justify the Vista upgrade. But to that, I direct everyone to check these Direct X 9 to Direct X 10 comparisons for Crysis... which I know a number of us are looking forward to:

    Jungle Fight

    Hunter

Credit: Shinare from OKGG for the find.

Now both versions are absolutely beautiful. But the DX10 is just a level above. You may not want to upgrade now... but sometime in the very near future it will be a good move with more and more developers taking advantage of what DX10 can do.

    Wow. . .dx9 or dx10, i want CRYSIS!

This machine will probably always run XP. Maybe early next year, I'll look into a new system, and get Vista with it. Even if I got Vista for this machine, it wouldn't have the horsepower to run at high settings. That takes away from the appeal.

OH PLEASE! Yes it would. Your current machine is more than enough for Vista man. Vista is not THAT much a system hog! You have a 3Ghz CPU and also have a descent video card and plenty of memory. You would no problems running it at all in any way.

If I were you I would do it.

I am only hesitant because of the X-Fi card and was worried about games but so far people seem to be running them just fine. Sindy got her X-Fi working okay and her and Drix are gaming with no problems.

It may be time for me to do it now. I have an ultimate upgrade sitting here 😉

Sindy any problems I should be aware of for games? Your BF2 working okay etc...?

What X-Fi driver issues should I be aware of? I will go read of course 😉

If my beloved CMSS surround it still not implemented I will wait, I cannot live without that feature 😉

Paladin, You Stud! I can't even get, oh nevermind.......

Drix, do you have a DX10 video card already? I'm curious how that is going to work. My understanding is it will roll back to 9 compatibility if it's not DX10 compliant. I don't know about ATI, but for Nvidia that means 8000 series only. All 7000's are DX9 only.

Yea that is another consideration. My card is only DX 9 as well obviously.

I'm not worried about Vista. I'm worried about Crysis. I'm sure I'll be running at less then HIGH settings for Crysis, and if I do that, will I really get much out of the DX10 experience?

Plus, why spend $200 for an OS, when I get along just fine with this one? I'll wait for the next machine before I upgrade.

Eh, wrong. My 7600 is DX10 compliant. So saith DXdiag.exe. Checked it before I bought it.

BTW, Halo 2 as of day one does play against the Xbox players. I've not yet played online, as I am finishing the single player campaign first. Thus far is teh good.
