This was posted in the BF2 Mapping Forums at PBF. Just in case it disappears, I wanted to post it here.
1. To get rid of checkerboard pattern when viewing terrain at a distance.
-Go to \"TerrainEditor\"
-Pick the paintbrush icon
-On the right toolbar (Along the edge of screen) just under where it shows your current texture layer there is a button called \"Set low texture detail\" click it.
-pick \"defaultLowDetail.dds\" and \"ok\"
2. When map crashes when you click \"join game\" when you start a multiplayer map
- I found that you need to set the terrain to medium under your game video settings
3. When map crashes at about 15% (see my earlier post)
- Level files need to be zipped into a client.zip, and a server.zip
- To make things easy i zipped everything except \"info\" folder into two files called \"client.zip\" and \"server.zip\"
4. To help troubleshoot a crash
-Right click your battlefiled 2 icon
-In the \"Target\" line at the very end will have '+fullscreen 1'...change it to '+fullscreen 0'
-This will open battlefield 2 in a window mode that if your map does crash it will give you a window telling you why it crashed and will provide you with some direction as to where you can look to fix it.
5. Best way to test your map.
- Start your map with the standalone server on you computer
- Once server is running in the background open battlefield 2 game and join a local game
- This is the best since you can try to take possesion of all you neutral/enemy flags. Everything works
-Just remeber when you start standalone server you set \"NubPlayersNeededToStart\" to 1 before you launch server.
