Is it me or has this Christmas season unusually devoid of any must have PC Games? It seems like all the focus is on the console releases.
Holiday Lack of Big Title

#2 Yeah, I have noticed that as well. Last year was all about Half-Life 2 and this year is kinda blah... I'm gonna have to give it 💀 ☠️ for lack of anything interesting... 😆 -
#3 I think the game companies figured everyone would be too busy playing WoW to notice that any other game had come out 😉 -
#4 Even wow pushed their expansion back to after Christmas. -
#5 Direct x 10 and vista hit in january, im expecting them in the new year for sure for that reason. -
#6 Bet this is a new trend. Leave Christmas to the consoles, and the first and second quarters to the PC releases. Come to think of it, don't ever remember getting a great FPS at Christmas, always in April'ish. -
#7 I got Quake II for Christmas.
Warlord, welcome to Gamers Radio.
I wonder how that is going to work. I mean, are the developers really developing for an OS that is not out yet or are they waiting for critical mass like everyone else? -
#8 DX10 and even quad core games are been developed. Alan wake for quad-core, crysis for dx10 mostly. But its mostly a move to multithreaded games which is coming. I reckon within about 2 years, dual core will be phased out. In Q3 2007 intels latest quad will be out supporting DDR3 ram.
Value is taking a keen step on multithreading too, hoping to update the source engine to improve its current titles, no so much with FPS but more advanced particle effects, physics and AI.
Although i do agree, consoles are so hyped at Xmas there isn't a vast amount of advertising/releasing of PC games. -

Right now for games, I recommend people just get a faster single core if they want MAX speed. The duel cores max at 3.2 I believe. That is still very fast though so is a good choice if that is as fast as you want.
If this is good enough go with the duel, why not. Games do not currently take advantage of more than one core so a duel is very cool but won't make current games run faster. If the new ones start taking advantage of the cores that will be great but a good hyper-threading CPU will still run very fast.
I had a choice which CPU to get so I got a 3.6 single core for now. I am very happy with it and I have 400Mhz extra not going with the duel. And I can upgrade to a duel later. The quads and DDR3 will need yet another new MB and I am not upgrading yet again for some time. 😉
It will never end. 😉 -
#10 So what is out for Christmas this year on the PC?
Neverwinter Nights 2 (which I really want to get)
Battlefield 2142
Any other high profile games we may have missed? -
#11 Armed Assault (Czech/German, Now) UK is 07 release.
Medival 2 : Total War
Rainbow Six Vegas
i suppose a few more could be found on retailer websites if you check release dates. -
#12 Rainbow 6 seems to have gone the console ported to PC route. I am not a big fan of games created that way. -

Anyone heard anything about this game? I've read a little and it looks interesting but wondered if anyone had heard anything positive or negative about it? This is the follow up to the Operation Flashpoint game iirc. -
#14 Company of Heros is pretty good if you like a World war 2 RTS.. it's different and the effects are pretty cool.. has an interesting layout to control points and such.. I believe there is a demo out as well.. -
