Horde Starting Cities

I've been researching starting cities for the Horde. From what I can find, Trolls, Orcs and Taurens can meet up fairly easily, probably somewhere between levels 7-10. Undead, however may be more difficult as they are on the Alliance Continent or actually, underneath it.

So, if we play Horde, we should be able to pick between those 3 races fairly easily. It may mean we have to work the first few levels solo, but from Beta, that doesn't seem too difficult. Also, this might be a good time to figure out what race you are going to play, so we can do the buddy system for the first part.

I'm pretty much decided on being a Tauran Druid.

Or A Troll Preist... what do you guys think will be more useful for us?

There is an zeplin that flys close to the big undead city to the other island, but i have seen a friend of mine do it and is at the big orc town(I forgot the name, and hes only about lvl 10 or 11)

So I dont think it wouldnt be a problem of meeting up with ppl if they wanted to be undead.

I say play what makes you happy and we will work with what we have. I am considering a Troll as well. If we both played Trolls, then we could work together at the beginning and meet up with the Orcs and Taurens.

    Here is my wish list.

Troll Rogue (appears to be best race for class)
Orc Shaman (best racial profile for class)
Orc/Tauren Hunter (Orc's have slightly better stats, but Taurens get guns from beginning. Not sure which one would be better. Guns rock!)

I haven't narrowed it down yet. I may start the other characters, just to see what they are like.

I was gonna play a orc shaman or warrior, depending on what everyone i knew was gonna play. Its always nice to have at least the basic things covered for big quest and such, like 1 tank and 1 healer and do whatever with the rest.

My first choice was a warrior, but i figured all of my friends would do melee classes and such, so i figued i would be the 1/2 healer as a shaman =) .

Hrmmm.... I usually like going as a healer/ support type of person. Is anyone else in our group gonna do that? Cuz we will need a priest for sure. If no one will I will go priest instead of Druid. Either looks fun to me and Priests are always needed for a group I think.
  8. #8
Yes, we need healers like no tomorrow... I will be an Orc Rouge...

As for the issue of undead meeting up... Yeah, the Zephlin [sp?] can get you to the main orc city... I was playing around at level 6 [orc] and jumped on it to see where it would take me... Well, at that point I was on the "good" side... But the monsters around me had a "??" for the level... So I don't know how well the Undead can get to it... Someone needs to look into this!
  9. #9
It's probably not that big a deal. We don't have to really group much till lvl 10 or so anyways... I might go Undead Priest just cuz the mana is better for them to be healers than Trolls.
  10. #10
I think you have to make 2 stops or something cuz I THINK he made 1 stop and he got out and everything was ?? but then he got on another one and he got to the area close to orc town.

So I think there is like some sort of big zeplin junction, to goto other places. Ill try and figure it out when i get out of class =).
  11. #11
That would be really cool. I'd like to think the Undead could meet up with the rest of the Horde.

What are you playing right now izual?
  12. #12
Ok I took 1 zeplin ride from the big undead city to the platefomr right next to Ogrgrimmar(sp?) the big orc town. There are 3 platforms those 2 towns and an outpost, which is probably where you ended up at ephil with all the ?? mobs. I assume its an easy way to get out to harder mobs when you get up to the higher lvls.
  13. #13
Im just on some random pvp server, and I have a 10 undead warlock and an 8 orc shaman. I dont really care to play too much cuz I dont wanna redo all this stuff a week later, just wanted to see if I liked it as well as i thought i would =).

1 thing that i have yet to figure out if there is really that much difference inbetween the pvp and normal servers. From what i have heard the pvp you can attack ppl anywhere, and the normal servers you have to wait to go further out? Im not sure, so correct me if I am wrong =)

I am a 13 Tauren Druid. I will probably go with Druid in the Final Release. They are more of an all around character than just a healer. They only have a few healing spells, but that doesn't seem to be their primary purpose. Their multiple forms (Bear, Cat) let them play like a warrior or a rogue. At first I didn't know how happy I was gonna be with the Druid, but I have come to really like it. The nice thing is, I can focus my talents and abilities toward Shapechanging and Someone else could focus on Support and they would play like different classes. And if nobody is gonna be a tank, I will go with warrior. They have taunt and High HP, so they can take damage. That is what I play in CoH, So I am pretty used to it. Course, with all that said, I would rather be a Dwarf.
  15. #15
Right now, it doesn't look like we have any tanks, but we have several people who would settle for it.

I wonder if we could make do with some of the casting/warrior types instead.

Then, there are the hunters. They are not quite tanks, but they have incredible ranged attacks.

In the end, I still think everyone should play what they want and we will figure it out from there. I figure tanks would be the easiest thing to solicit if we need someone to fill out a raid group.
  16. #16
Yah... I haven't grouped alot in WoW yet, but we seriously need a real tank and a real healer.

Since BlueGuy wants to go Druid, that makes it easier for me to go ahead and decide on Priest. I like doin the healing bit. Except for last night when I lagged out and let Izual die on me twice. Sorry...
  17. #17
Yeah, Druids in Bear form make a Good Seconday Tank Cause they get taunt, and If we have a good healer (and no lag) I could probably run primary tank, at least for regular missions. But, if we take any elite missions we will need at least one Warrior with us.
  18. #18
So, if I decide to take a Hunter, would that help with the fighter stuff? Granted, A hunter's strength is ranged, but I've been pretty happy with melee once I got a decent weapon and armour (thanks Blue!).
  19. #19
Ill be happy to be the tank, I love being the guy who smashes things and takes all the hits =). I heard ppl using druid bear as tank if they couldnt find a warrior, but thats what i like about WoW its very very versitile and you dont have to certain classes to do anything. Having a warrior and priest is tank but a druid and shaman can work too, and im sure there are tons of combinations for a tank healer.

    uhm...
  21. #21
Sob that was me, i guess i wasnt still logged in =(
  22. #22
Hey all, I'm new to this group, except for a few of you who I played FFXI with for a while (sorry about the monk stuff izzy).

Anyway, I was asked if I wanted to join in with you guys on WoW and I'd be happy to.

Now to the class issue, I'd be more than happy to play a hunter or a 2nd tank, whichever is needed more. I'm not too familiar with magic classes, though, as I've never played one before, at least not in an MMORPG.

Well, just wanted to drop in and say hello.
  23. #23
I would say you guys will need another tank. But I wouldn't worry about where people are. I've been playing an undead mage and right now I'm running around on the Ork lands doing quest around X-roads and some other places farther NW. I've also joined in on a raid on the Night Elves, about 80 people or so.

One thing that I wish people in the group would do move of is build up the man next to them while in the party. My self while I'm running around I keep a finger on "0" and any time I see another PC I click on them and cast some spell that adds +2 int so they regen a little bit faster. So far I haven't seen a limit to how many spells you can have active at once. I think I had it on just about everyone in that raid all at once. And I've had about 7 different things on myself at once before from different people casting things on me. So I don't see a limit to how many things you can keep active or how many things you can have active on yourself. That is unless the spell says that you can only have it on X number of people. Or if you already have a spell on yourself doing something to whatever is being changed.

I know we have seen a ton of buffing from other people... I even seperated my combat log so I could see who it was and thank them.. I also tend [as I can tank well] to watch people as I run around... If I see someone getting their asses kicked, I jump in and start swinging... [Also pull mobs off of people running away from them]

Keep doing what you are doing and others follow 🙂

[Edit] Oh yeah! Welcome to the new people that are coming in... I hope that when we go retail we will all be able join up [for the ones that want to] [/Edit]
  25. #25
    Thanks ephil.

And yes, I'm looking forward to meeting up with everyone on WoW when it goes retail next week.
  26. #26
I would like to. It's kind of the only reason I feel like playing, to see if as a group we can put the fear in other people, only reason I'm not going GW2. So when you go retail, even if you don't want me in the guild, let me know where you are and maybe I can help ya out with something. You guys are wanting to go PvP right? Or normal, and make raids on the aliance from time to time?
  27. #27
I think we want to go normal and PVP just from time to time. That seemed to be the way things have been discussed so far.

For those of you that don't know, Blitzfire is a friend of mine from college and has played FFXI with Izual and I a good bit. I think he's comin over from Little Rock to check out OKGG this weekend actually.
  28. #28
Yah, I'm makin' the trip. I'll try and head in there on Friday night, as early as I can manage. I'll try and leave my work around 3 or 4, so I'll get there right at prime time. Look forward to meeting you guys. Heard a load about ya. Even played a game of UT2k4 with some of you a couple weeks ago.

Very cool! I'm doing everything I can to keep from having to work Saturday. They tried to suck me in to patch office on 450 desktops or help reorganize servers, but I reminded them that I worked patch weekends the last two months in a row and I worked 8 hours one weekend to do patches and a Network upgrade. It's close, but I think I'm off the hook.

Anyway, I should be there unless that changes. :crosses fingers:

Yeesh... I have to get a new print server set up for one of our laser printers in the next couple days, but other than that, I have my work knocked out for the next few months. Just call me Captain Preventative Maintenance. I know all about System Administrator woes. I'm one myself, over three offices in fact.
  31. #31
But I have to admit, my workload is quite a bit lighter than most....ask Breaky. This time last year, I played FFXI at my work for 5 or 6 hours during the day with him.

But that's only during the off-season.

Oh, you are coming with us! You missed one hell of a time trying to do an elite quest last night... We [breaky, goose, Izual, ko and I] learned a lot from that trip...

1: You die... Yeah... A lot! It is really expected at our current levels 🙂
2: With that, you need to levels 18+ [at least]
3: Healers, they are your best friends and they take a beating verbally with "HEAL ME! I'M DYING!!!!" [Thank you! I am sure you guys got your healing practice in 🙂 ]

Even though we didn't get to kill the "Boss" of that quest, we did get to see him from across the lava... He had a HUGE Final Fantasy type sword! It was a blast working together trying to obtain the un-obtainable 🙂

I am way too juiced for retail to get here so I can start my real character and get everyone together 🙂
  33. #33
Yah, last night got me way pumped up for the game. I can't wait to do that again. I still can't believe I fell in the lava tho 🙁
  34. #34
"Ooooh... Look at the pretty red lava. AH CRAP I'M ON FIRE!!!!" 🙂
  35. #35
Oh god I know... at first I was like "hey you can go in the lava!" I was fine running around for a min then about 15 seconds later I just suddenly died and it said "Lava hits you for 1600 dmg"
  36. #36
Yeah the biggest thing I learned when like 80 people go together and raided the night elves was that when you game crashes and by the time you get back in they are light years away, use the stone and get the hell out of there, your raiding days are over. hehe

Oh and.. What's a good pre-order place? Or is preordering not really worth anything?
  37. #37
I will be taking the day off and hanging out at some software place... As I am still kinds new to VA, all I know is best buy right now... 🙁
