Ok, well I have gotten in some L4D time. Thus far, I am glad I got it at 50% off, if I had paid full price I would be unhappy. Its just too arcady for me. Not sure how I feel about the community. Maybe I don't quite get how the game works yet, but it seems you can sit in a full lobby all day and wait for the leader to start the game. Either that or each time someone drops out before the game is started. So I have found I have to join a game in progress.

This game still feels like a beta to me. I joined several in progress games to find I filled the spot fo someone who was dead and left, and thus you can't play until the mission is over. I have found many of the server lag all to hell and suck. For some reason my machine chokes on the game every few minutes and just stutters for 30-40 seconds, of course you can't tell if the server sucks or if its your machine choking. There is no ping meter, but there seems to be some sort of connection icons that I don't know what they mean.

The game is ok, though there seldom seems to be any teamwork. Tonight i finally played on a server with some good teammates; that made the game much better. As for playing as the zombies, its boring. I mean its an interesting twist, and the seems to be alot to doing it well. That said its more like spawn, die, wait to spawn... repeat. You move slowly and the controls are lacking in refinement so you are always doing things in the wrong direction, or wrong timing.

I had high expectations for this game, and maybe if played on a good server with some buds, it would be a blast for a night. Not sure if I regret spending money on this or not. Time will tell and maybe it'll make the game more fun.

Bubba, you've said everything Joe said to me about the game, except he paid full price.
I don't ever hear him say he's played L4D at all lately.

Also no single player mode - right?

    Pass.

I picked it up for 40% off at CC. I think it cost me $30. I only got it because Lexx wanted to play it. I have not installed it yet. it must not be selling because they had SHITE LOADS of them! 🙂

I also picked up Fallout 3 but is is single player. I probably won't get around to playing it for some time, but again, it was cheap 🙂

having had some game time, I have come around to it some. It's not a great game, but its a decent diversion. Still all kinds of issues with joining servers. I have found the only way to actually play is to join a game in progress, and half the time you get a server full, because someone else doing the same was allocated there.

As for my video stuttering issues. It seems it was part lag and part driver issues. Even thpugh I was running the most current drivers for my Nvidia 9800gtx, this has an issue with this game that has been out for months. I upgraded to the newest betas and it fixed many issues. The is still alot of lag, that beign mainly cause you are tossed into any server, and they all seem to suck.

Closing thoughts their interface to join the game sucks. Game is decent. With all friends this could be alot of fun. Community seems to suck as a whole, most players seem to be asshats.

I think most in DC now have this. The idea for us was usually we only have 3 or 4 peeps around any given night and it follows UT invasion somewhat, 4 against dozens of bots. I've only tried the single player so far since I just installed it a couple of days ago.

Unlike invasion, the team must work together or your going to get wiped out. So far I've only heard positive things about it, but you have to consider the point of view 🙂

Probably buying a L4D private server would be best, however it is $8 a month for 4 players. Once you could tweak out a server you could probably make it better to play, etc.

Has anyone tried to host a server from their HS cable or fios? W@W seems to run pretty good from Geek and Fuze's the couple of time I played with them.

You would have to do it on Thursday so nobody would play CoD4. There went my fun for the night. I guess I'll go sleep or something stupid. Bah.
